Just because not only does Shadow need a gun and Sonic need a sword...
Interesting enough I expected a game like this to be announce one day. The only diffence is that the characters would have look like chibi, it would include, besides Sonic, characters from Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia and Crazy Taxi and the game would only for the Wii. I guess Sega has been reading my mind. Now I wonder if Sega is working on that Virtua Fighter Kids party game as well?
Btw is this the car Sonic used on Sonic Drift games? The graphics looks pretty good in those screenshots.
Eh, I suck at racing games; so unless it has a story, like Riders and Rivals, I'll think I'll pass. I'm kinda surprised they haven't announced an action/adventure game yet.
Cool
And hopefully, more oldschool Sega characters like Ristar and Vectorman.

And so far no one has questioned the need for sonic to even be in a car (chaos control! win.7z!)? unless it's to give the rest of the playing field an advantage
Also needs the return of Nack/Fang* back from Drift 😮
As much as I want Nack/Fang, he is to obscure for a game like this. And I doubt that is a crabmeat, it most likely is another car.
Ryo Hazuki on a motorbike.
That is all.
I am super excited to see this. A fun racer is always welcome in my eyes and one that features Sonic is even better.
---the-Krayon
I fricken called Sega Superstars Outrun.
Also, I came.
I wanna see Honey from Fighting Vipers and Hornet plz Mr Sega.
I guessing seeing as its Sonic and Sega All Stars: for every Sega character there are 2 Sonic ones. But on the plus side that's still about 20 Sega characters!
Also: Why cant Sonic games look as nice as that rejigged Seaside Hill Zone?
Sonic using a hover board in Riders made some sense given Sonic's long history of doing extreme sports, but it seems wrong to put Sonic behind the wheel of an actual car.
Personally, I wish they would make a proper Sonic R sequel.
At least they're admitting in the title that Sonic characters will be taking up a big chunk of the roster. One thing that put me off about Sega Superstars Tennis was the roster it had. Every series represented got no more than two characters except the Sonic series which got five.
It also bugged me that, aside from the Sonic characters, only two of the sixteen characters were created before the Dreamcast. Sega has so many IPs under their belt, there's not even a need to have more than one character per series show up. Half of the characters that showed up in Tennis weren't even necessary at all.
But I'm just annoyed and ranting over nothing. I'd just like to see a more diverse cast in this game.

I think you mean forklift.
might be good ole arcade fun
I'm feeling definite overtones of Riders, but there're only so many things you can do with a racing game in terms of variable gameplay...
poor Nack even has a vehicle i wish he'd show up.
Hahaha! John Taylor...I...ummm...nothing. But really...i'm glad to see this. While i'm totally with you Jeffery, a Sonic R sequel would've been much more welcomed in my eyes, but I love racing games and SEGA characters...this might be put on my purchase list in the future. Maybe. Anyword if this'll be shown at E3?
I'd say with this game being announced so close to E3 that it's a given for it to be shown there.
Also, I'm pretty disappointed that this is the "unsurprising" game announcement from Sega in addition to their already meger E3 list as opposed to any of their internally developed games that are stuck in Japan. Meh.
Though I'm sort of surprised that they did greenlight another Sega All-Star game after the tennis one bombed and was discounted 1-2 months after its release. Guess they are trying to ride on the coatails of Mario Kart's success...again.
Apparently Sumo Digital are doing it. And Richard Jacques is doing the soundtrack. This is the game of envitable disappointment. But so far touch wood, there has been nothing released so far that repulses me.
The thing is if Sonic isn't in the car you would all complain that either Sonic isn't so fast he hasn't automatically won before the race started or that he is too fast that you can't win.
The only extra Sonic characters I want playable (on top of the SST Roster) would be Knuckles and Metal Sonic. But I can see Blaze and Silver coming in for some reason.
So tracks? Daytona speedway obviously. I hope we get a House of the Dead track where we can run over zombies.

Those games still in Japan must still be too Japanese oriented
And I can never fathom the popularity of Mario Kart other than Mario being in the title. Most other cartoony racing games still doesn't have high levels of luck as MK and still takes some skill.
BTW, does anyone think that Sonic's name was in the title solely for sales?

The Amusement Vision course in Monkey Ball 1 would be BADASS
Apparently the original title was Sega Superstars Racing. It was changed by Sega. Probably Sega America.
Overly long name aside, I really want this to do well. Mostly because SST was excellent and deserved much more than it got. I blame the obviously biased Nintedo games media.
This so needs Skies of Arcadia characters in pirate ship cars. The seaside green hill track looks amazing. Other than that, blah to this idea.
If they want to make a Mario Kart game, don't call attention to the less renowned cast by calling it "Sega All Stars." That's like calling a port of Sonic Chronicles "Sonic's epic quality RPG." In fact, it's kind of like calling it "Sonic Chronicles."

Fixed. Because there really isn't a need for six Sonic characters(a fifth character would already be pushing it) when Sega has already a huge library of characters from classic and potential new classic franchises.
Also John, maybe this might be moderately successful on the HD systems since there are no kart good racers on those platforms. Or it could have the same success on the Wii/DS since there is already an audience for this type of game there. Or when it drops to $30 after a month of its release because of hardly moving units at $50.
This is all assuming that the game/word of mouth is good.

Many of Sega's games in Japan are no less Japanese-oriented than the stuff that Square-Enix, Capcom, and smaller companies produce and publish in the West. One of the games that have not been announced in the West is Shining Force Feather which is an actual SRPG. A new Shining Force that actually an SRPG, I haven't seen that in over a decade.
Also, as for the popularity of MK it is because the first game was easy to get into, very good, and a financial success. As a result, other comapanies tried to cash-in the kart racing fad with mostly poor results sans a few exceptions. It was especially bad in the Saturn/PS1/N64 generation. Several comapnies since then stopped producing kart racers since many consumers trusted the MK-brand(reguardless of polarizing opinions between each entry) over anything else. The MK seemed to get a new resurgence in popularity due to the advent of online modes and the extreme popularity of the DS and Wii. It also helps that there hasn't been any decent attempt at a good MK competitor in years.
**looks at first post w/ pic**
A Lotus? Sonic gets a Lotus convertible?? **pouts**
In other news, I think it would be hilarious to see Max driving a nice little steampunk racer.

Well in interview Peter Capella, Silver's VA, mention that he was doing voice work for a Sonic collaboration game and he couldn't talk about the top secret game. He was probably referring to this game and not the Winter Olympics since we already knew about it existance at the time of the interview. However he didn't' specify if he was voicing Silver or some other character .
*begins countdown until footage of NiGHTS in a car that looks just like himself, a la the roller coaster/boat scenarios from JoD, show up*
Honestly, this is the kind of project that I would have expected Nintendo, who flagrantly love to wave in everyone's face the number of franchises they have, to undertake before Sega. Still, not the worst news I've heard from Sega. Not the best news, but certainly not the worst. I just wish they'd scrap that embarrassingly redundant title and call it "Super Crash Brothers" or something.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPbXp83Q2Wg&NR=1 The old Sonic Drift commercial. I had actually never seen this before. Hmmm, Sega All-Stars Racing. Take Sonic out of the title or just call it...Sega Racing or Sega Rally? Sega Circuit?
It's a real shame, but would anyone apart from the Sega diehard (ie. not your average consumer) really buy this game if Sonic wasn't in it? Sonic's been their only really viable property for a while now - I mean there's others, but nowhere near to the same extent that Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc.
I dont think anyone has said they want Sonic out of the game, but the name is so large and unwieldy it has a "Wolverine and the X Men" vibe about it.
Also, I just hope Pete Cappella is just voicing some characters that haven't been voiced before. Because Silver would be the greatest waste of a character slot since Wolf in SSBB. Oh I went there.
Also Ashide, whats wrong with Metal Sonic?
Nothing's wrong with Metal Sonic, but I would rather see a different Sega character take up that slot such as someone from Valkyria Chronicles, Shinobi, Sakura Wars, Panzer Dragoon, Space Harrier, a car from Daytona, etc. than yet another Sonic character no matter how great that being is.
Fair enough. This is still the game of envitable disappointment though.
Rival for the Sonic Cycle?
Even the Jacques Effect couldn't save Chronicles though.
That's because Richard Jacques really didn't compose the crap that was in Chronicles. It was just some schumck imitating Jacques with some poor midis.

A spectacular analysis. The rush of kart clones made the whole idea of a kart clone a joke, guaranteeing MK dominance even though the sequals were arguably not as good as the original. With MK Wii being a huge success we may be getting another such rush, starting with SEGA.

You would think that SEGA would not want to keep calling attention to SonicNEXT, yet they continually celebrate it, force-feeding Silver nearly as much as Shadow.
Seriously, what's wrong with Silver other than he was introduced in the "worst" Sonic game? Does everytime they use Shadow celebrate SA2, Amy SCD, or Tails STH2?
Seriously, what's wrong with Silver other than he was introduced in the worst Sonic game?
See, I bolded the main answer for you. Also he was an original concept from a canned and problematic-looking game shoved into a crappy hedgehog design form in a rushed game.

I realize the answer, Acid; I just don't understand judging the character on the merits of the game and not his character or potential. I mean I know people don't care much for his character or potential either, but that is the only thing they should judge him on not how they feel about his intro game.
To me it is more his design than the game. The most important thing about any Sonic character is design. It's not like they're popular because they are compelling statements about humanity. Sonic's appeal has a lot to do with his stylized original design. Silver, other than the cool gloves, looks like something deviantart vomited.
But by saying that his appearances are a celebration of SonicNEXT, I refer to how a character who has only had a role in that game (not counting Rivals) is showing up as a staple mini-game and cameo regular. I also had just been to the official Sonic blog where they have the SonicNEXT boxart in the banner.
Ah, gotcha.
For those interested on the PC and PS3 version you should know that official website has them as download only.

Yet the video clearly shows PC DVD near to the end...
Shadow is playable( with his bike from ShTH) and apparently there a Billy Hatcher stage as well.
Better than I expected. The stage looks great and has multiple paths. I like Eggman's car quite a lot. A kart game with a taunt?
Confirmed:
Sonic
Tails
Knuckles
Eggman
Amy
Big
Shadow
Aiai
Amigo
7 Sonic characters...?
ugh why...? Really, Sumo? Really why not just make it Sonic All-Stars Racing instead of SEGA All-Star Racing? =-p One of the biggest complaints of Sega tennis is that there were an overemphasis on Sonic characters and not enough other Sega ones.
So Knuckles may or may not be in.
Big on a tiny scooter, pure genius Sumo.
Also, is Super Sonic flipping people off he passes them?
Sonic 1 style shields as well!
Needs more forklifts.
