Yeah, my brother brought it back for me from the States a few years back.

*digs out the CDs*

OK, manuals are all on pdf, drat it, but here's what I remember.

Sonic CD: manual did not call Amy Rose "Princess Sally", thank goodness. American soundtrack, or so I'm told. You had to turn the system colours on the computer to 256 colours or it wouldn't play.

Sonic R: yay to snow and rainbows!

Sonic 3 & Knuckles: You could play all levels with Tails or Knux without having to unlock anything. But they messed with some of the BMG, ruining Ice Cap, Carnival Night and Launch Base, for some unknown reason.

Screensaver: absolutely rocked. You can see some of the pics in the museum on Sonic Gems (like Sonic running somewhere with a slice of toast and a hat, or Tails looking scared at Hallowe'en).

EDIT: wasn't able to post this all at once, so a few lines at a time it is...

yeah, it was pretty cheap to i think 10$ or so, i'm not sure if you'd still be able to find it but with the better (imo) ports in Sonic Gems and sonic colection i wouldn't buy those, because the faster your computer is the games become impossible to play.... i'm also not found of playing games on my computer, specially with keyboard

More stuff on the screensaver that my last post wouldn't submit, for some reason:

You could get the characters to move the pictures on and off the screen (e.g. Tails would fly up to drop bits of the picture down, Knux could drag a picture on, Sonic could superspin through a picture to get rid of it). Plus you could use original BGM from Sonic 1, 2, 3&Knux and CD.

All 3 CDs played BGM if put in a normal CD player.

All in all, not a bad collection at all, especially when the UK didn't have the "Explosiv" collection.

But as has been said, if you can get Gems and Mega Collection, you don't really need this.

I rememeber buying this with a gift card at ToysRUs a long time ago. It came with Shining Force in the Super Smash Pack! This is how I got my Sonic R, Sonic CD, S3&K, and my very own SSP. It was such a cool game.

You could also extract the soundtracks to Sonic 1, 2, 3&K and Japanese CD from the screensaver and run them in media player.

Didn't realise it had the Japanese tracks as .wavs. I shall have to take another look. Mainly, I suspect, because I had so many issues with playing Sonic CD with a computer joypad, that I never got far enough into it to figure out what level tunes were what.

My Sidewinder joypad seemed to have a built-in time delay. Not so bad on CD, but a real pain in the neck in Hydro City where the walls are closing in. By the time you can get the dratted hedgehog to do a super spin, he's already squashed. Grrr! I've flown straight into attacking spaceships in Elite II because of that thing too.

Not that I'm blaming my tools or anything ;)

They've released about ten different Sonic value packs for the PC. I got the one that had Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic R, and Sonic CD, then bought Sega Smash Packs 1 & 2. The ten bucks I spent on the Smash Packs was worth Shining Force alone.

I get used to playing games with a keyboard, myself. Perfectly satisfactory unless you try it with 3D platformers...

The music you get for S3&K is up to your own software. It can be played either with the FM Synthesizer or General MIDI. Both are horrible to me. I want some MP3s instead!

The screensaver images (though in BMP format and incredibly large) make good desktop wallpapers, although you might have to edit some of them to make the white background transparent to fit with your background color.
