I heard somewhere that the E-90 from Episode 8 of Sonic X was modeled after "Thunderbird 2" from the old TV show and 2004 Movie "Thunderbirds". I've seen pictures of Thunderbird 2, but I can't find any pictures of the E-90. If anyone can find any pictures, screenshots or even artists' renditions (for those who can draw it) of the Super Sweeper, please post them. I would greatly appreciate it.
Team Artail usually has screencaps... but none of that ep have the E90.
Odd...
What's even greater is that episode also had fold-down trees on the runway for the tornado =D
Also, calling the 200 movie Thunderbirds is a hanging offence. That movie should be disowned by media.

I concur. How could they get a wonderful and fondly remembered series from our childhoods and do THAT to it. The machinery looked nice though... But nothing else was nice.
Man, Sonic is full of references.
- 7 powerful objects + Super Sonic refer to DBZ.
- Death Egg goes without saying
- The idea of a floating island is from SoA or whatever it was supposed to be
- Runway in SA + SX and E-90 are from Thunderbirds.
I wonder if I missed anything, and regadless of whether I did or not, what will come next?
SA Lost World and Indiana Jones boulder chase.
So I guess that means that the SA2 Truck chase is a ripoff of "The Duel"?
That one screenshot is the only picture I've seen so far. Does anyone have any others?

Actually, *dons Sailor Triva glasses* Sonic 2 was released so close to the airing of the Friesa saga that it is impossible to assume that it is a rip-off of DBZ and is likely that they are derived from a common source. =D
Unless it was like, in the comics/manga or something. >>

Laputa? I'm not sure what SoA would be other than "Sega of America" or "Skies of Arcadia", the former making no sense and the latter not existing until 2000.

The sonic OVA also featured the runway with moving trees. ^^

In my lil' Brother's old book of the Dragonball manga covers the first one to feature Goku as a supersaiyan is the first cover of 1991, plenty of time to be influenced by the series (dispite this, I've seen similar things to supersaiyan/super Sonic in other things, so I wonder if there is another source of influence that DBZ shares).
You know 7 is a common number for power objects and Sailor Moon series 1 also used "7 Rainbow Crystals" which were multicoloured like the Chaos Emeralds.
The blatant part of the DBZ reference is the blone quilled blue eyed bit.
Of course, much like DBZ it was aired after the impliment of the Chaos Emeralds.
There were originally 6 though. Why change to 7? I think they did it to be cute.

My theory on that is that the game developers wanted to include a Super Sonic character in Sonic 2, but then fans would try to do that in Sonic 1 and be ticked off. So to shut them up and just make things easier, they added one more emerald and said "you need 7 to go Super Sonic!"
Just a thought, and it makes sort of sense I think ^^;

I don't remember it's name but Angel Island is based on The floating Island from Gulivers Travels, which levitated with a giant lodestone, which was a magnet that repulsed against the earth.
Isnt angel island the name of california's Ellis island?
If i recall they shut it down when they banned asian immigrants in America way back when, could this be a refferance. *thinks about it* in fact. A lone character stuck on a deserted island, i;ll just stop there, you can think about it.
I think someone who actually bothered to count them and then set off to do that wouldn't be all "Oh, okay! ^_^" after collecting 6 emeralds to find there were no more. Otherwise, even though Sonic Team sucks at keeping continuity and rarely shows the initiative to, your theory still has a chance of being the reason. It's actually crossed my mind as well.
I was surprised that there were 7 Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 2 first time around, after there only being 6 in the first Sonic and the Master System games.
I had a different experience- Sonic 2 was my first Sonic game. After beating the game w/ all 7 emeralds, I went and played the first Sonic. Spent many days looking for the "Final emerald" so I could go super, but of course I didn't find it. My ever-helpful brother kept urging me on, saying that he knew where it was but was sure I'd rather get it myself.
Heh. I played Sonic 2 first, like you, but I never got all the emeralds, because I thought they didn't matter. I they'd told me in the manual that they were so important I would have made more of an effort. >>
I later went aand bought Sonic 1 and Sonic and Knuckles at a pawn shop, and later getting Sonic 3 at a GameXchange in my neighborhood. AND THEEEN, I look them up on the internet for cheat codes and found Super Sonic described. o.o AndI knew that there was only six emeralds in Sonic 1 and I instantly came up with what was what I thought was the obvious answer; they put the 7th one in so they'd have a excuse for no SS in Sonic 2. And that was several years ago, at least 4 or 5. So anyway. *has flashback of the first time I saw sonic go super, was expecting a cape or something o.o*
How about the fact that Tikal and Pachacamac are the names of old Mesoamerican cities.
Getting back to the topic at hand, does anyone out there have any other pictures of the E-90?
TEAM ARTAIL
That is all.
EDIT: The bloomin' 'eck? THere's only ONE picture of it on there. o.o And it's already been linked.
