Sonic 3 (& knuckles)
I have to say Sonic 3 (and Knuckles). It had so many long, fun stages. A boss fight at the end of every act was really cool. It had the Super Emeralds, Hyper Sonic, Super Tails, Super Knuckles, and Hyper Knuckles. You never see this stuff again (it would be great if we did though). It was the first Sonic game that you use Super Sonic (or Hyper Sonic) againest the final boss. That idea is six feet under now from overuse, but it was cool at the time.
Sonic 3 (& Knuckles). Knuckles became my favorite character to play. The two-player races were great too, but needed more levels. Good stuff overall.
S3&K and SA1. I had explanations and stuff, but stupid EZB ate my post and I'm too lazy to type the whole thing again.
What? I'm sure there were many more games than that...
Anyways, S3&K. Or, SA2. Both are good.
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Edit: Okay, seems fair enough. Sorry.

NiGHTS into Dreams is Sonic Teams best game, and the last good game they made before they started turning out mediocrity.
^Chu-Chu Rocket, Samba de Amigo and PSO are mediocre games?
Let's not forget Burning Rangers.
Hah I forgot all about those games. =/
Although I wouldn't say PSO is that great, but better than mediocre, yes. And Burning Rangers I'll never play unless they rerelease it, which I doubt. Is it at all like Roscoe McQueen on PSX? That was a fire-fghting game, and quite fun too.
6.) Sonic 1 - The difficulty and fun in this game are pretty much on par for an enjoyable experience. Got the ball rolling for the Sonic series. I show it, its respect.
5.) Sonic and the Secret Rings - First of all the music in ths game rocks, IMO. The motion sensing control is incredible. Starts off abit shaky, but by the end it's better than I could've ever imagined. The boss batles are great, the levels are fast and fun. Not to mention a new form for Sonic. Man Sega, if you guys can keep this up... *thumbs up*
4.) Sonic Adventure - Sonic's first fully blown 3D adventure. The characters[Sonic, Tails, Knux and Amy] were just as I would want them to be. The interaction between them is great. Massive levels, with much fun to be had and a very well composed storyline. Introduced Chaos, Tikal and Knux's lineage.
3.) Sonic Rush - 2D meets 3D. Sega should honestly take the success of this game to heart and make this the way of future Sonic games to come[for PS3, 360, Wii]. The speed is surreal and the bosses are intense. Level layout is very innovative, as is the music. Special stages are a thrill.
2.) Sonic 2 - Introduced Super Sonic to the world and gave the world Tails as a playable character. The levels are vibrant, fast and fun. Bosses were fun as well. Music is awesome and final boss fight is a two for one. Begins the story that would eventually lead to...
1.) Sonic 3[the complete version] - Choice of 3 characters. Knuckles enters the fray for the first time ever. Very massive levels. Great tunes. Possibility for all characters to reach another form beyond regular. Mighty lengthy in time of completion. IMO, one of the greatest games ever.
Sonic CD. Short and simple, nuff said.
i liek sonci teh hedehog for xbox and ps3 a lot moar its the best and i got a ps3 just for it and i bought the xbox360 to so i cold compar lol. if only bean was tehre itd be the best of even sonic the fighteres a lot which i like more!!!
APRIL FOOLS!!!
Are you serious?!
You bought a 360 just to compare the games?
was there anything about that post that didn't scream 'serious'? This person is hardcore.
Definitely S3+K. Sprawling levels, multiple strategies, speed and playability... Quality and quantity. 🙂
Best 4. First being the greatest:
-I'm not the only one. S3&k.
-Sonic Adventure. First time you see everyone in 3-D.
-Sonic Rush. It was too easy, but it's still good.
-Sonic Battle. Too hard, then too easy, too hard, then too easy, too... The com in story mode were wierd during Rouge's story. One hit and you're done for. But the game was still good. I customized too many Emerl's that I lost count. n_n
Best to worst:
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Sonic 2
Sonic 1
Knuckles' Chaotix
Sonic CD (Introducing Amy marred this masterpiece)
Sonic & the SR
Sonic Riders
Sonic Rush

Sonic Heroes (here's where I stop liking)
Sonic Next-Gen
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Adventure (My least favorite, I absolutely hate it)
