Theres just...no justice in the world. For Cloud is not on that list. True. If there is one franchise Nintendo clearly has no respect for anymore its Donkey Kong. At least they're keeping Star Fox dignified by just not making games for him

I thought that was Starfox to be honest.

I agree with you, the Monkey Donkey Kong franchise has lost much of its charm over the years. It's ironic that in one of the relatively early Donkey Kong games (forgot which one, exactly), Sonic is referred to as a 'no-hoper'. This was back when Sonic was in his prime though.
Ah, the delicious irony!

I dunno, I think you could argue a good case for Cloud being popular to this day, not counting Advent Children and the occasional cameo he only has one game to be make his case, and he isn't the reason the game sold, I'd say the VII does that on its own. The other really are hype magnets though, the Gears of War ads presented themselves as having some kind of emotional message but the lead is just Wolverine with the claws replaced with chainsaws and the backstory replaced with his chin. I DO agree that Cloud is overrated, I just don't think he deserves it more than the characters on that list.
As for McCloud...I'm not sure Star Fox Adventures is what you'd call dignity.
I'm glad DK is at least number 10. There is hope for him. Maybe Nintendo will make a new fun game for him one day that won't skimp on the graphics or include some whacky gimmick. Unlike Barrel Blast. Ugh what was that error of a racing game? Even Sonic Riders: ZG is more fun. Donkey Kong Racing was canceled right? So they make Barrel Blast which is an OK idea based off Diddy's jet pack but why didn't they use the bongos? Aren't the bongos compatible with the Wii??
Star Fox's last game was Assault/Armada wasn't it? Didn't like the ground/vehicle sections but the air missions were fun. (If only the ground missions had been on rail like in the old games it would have been easier to play) I'd rather they just not make a Star Fox game if they'll only continue to go down hill like Sooooonic >.>
Speaking of which, Sonic being way up on number 3 isn't very good. But I'm surprised people think even less of Master Chief. (I hope Master Chief of Arby& the Chief finds out haha)
But why is Lara Croft even on this list? Or so high up anyway....people still pay that much attention to her these days?
She's more popular than Sonic the Hedgehog??
I used to LOVE Lara Croft . Tomb Raider was one of the first Playstation games I got as a kid. But I think Tomb Raider is one of those things that...once you've done at least 3 games about exploring ancient ruins you've done it all. That remake that came out recently was pretty good...wait was it a remake? No wait, it was Legend. Urg, whatever, it was a good game. Still can't wrap my brain around why she's overrated. Second only to Master Chief. To me there's an incredible void between those two characters. I thought being overrated meant you had to be popular first off. I kinda figured Tomb Raider as a "has been" series by now. Same with Pac Man. I don't even know how he counts. Does Pac Man have a legion of mad retro game worshipers underground who constantly chant "Pac Man is the best video game character ever!" through the streets every day?

Perhaps they mean through time. Plus there's the added fact that Lara was famous just for being sexy, not gameplay, not level design, not innovation, only breasts in a tight top. Hell, originally Tomb Raider was going to star a complete knock off of Indiana Jones, with a whip and everything, before the execs stepped in and wanted something that wouldn't land them in hot water and sell millions.
I remember the Tomb Raider Lucozade adverts as they as 2003 as well.
Re Nu Skool Tomb Raider: there was Legend, Anniversary (remake of the first one) and Underworld. The trouble is now they are exactly where they were after Chronicles. They have fiddled with the engine and made a near enough perfect game, so they might have to change the core mechanics and even the style of the game. Survival Horror, perhaps?
I am kinda surprised that Mario wasn't on the list, mostly because it feels like he only appears in sports games and parties now. But then again, even they are better than Sonic's later outings.
Peter Moyleneux should have won.
If Mario had been included it would have been for lulz as IGN would have collapsed under the weight of hate mail.
