i'm sure most of you were either not happy with the Sonic next-gen games or heard way too much bad talk to even bother with them. when i read Ian Potto's DA journal entry about this game, i was convinced not to even try it out. i don't have the money for a PS3 or an Xbox 360, anyway. and, i won't for a very long time.
if Sonic Next-Gen was any less original than its predecessors, i have a feeling that the upcoming Sonic game for Nintendo Wii will be at least a little better, thanks to the Wii Remote Controller's motion-sensing functions. but, let's hope there will be much more than just that. like everyone's been saying, we need a new Sonic game that is entirely original, in terms of gameplay. and, above all, i really hope that there will be either Japanese-voice options or better English dubbing. i don't think anyone can take much more of 4Krap's dubs!
in the meantime, all we can do is keep ourselves posted, checking sites like IGN.com's Wii site and such.
note to administrator: oh, geez...i think i posted in the wrong place. is there any way i can delete this thread?
No, but don't worry about it. Misplaced posts happen, specially when you're new. Thanks to our helpful mods this topic will soon be South Island Bound.

"At least until the clouds start to gather," he says with a knowing wink.
I'm looking forward to Sonic on the Wii. I'll admit to having actually liked Sonic Adventure, (maybe I just forced myself to like it) but Secret looks significantly different from the old horse they keep beating with the 3D sonic games. I hear the game is a little more linear gameplay wise than the Adventure games. I hope this is the case, because this is probably just what the series needs. The Genesis Sega games were quite linear.
I don't want to explore in Sonic games, I just want to run fast. If the trailer for Secret is any indication, this Sonic will be juicing in the right direction.
I have no hype for Sonic and the Secret Rings. Why? Because it's completely on-rails. It's gameplay better suited for the Saturn era.

No they weren't. They had loads of different branches that took you to different parts of the level and different ways of completing such levels. They were certainly less linear than the latest 3D offerings, where if there is a branch its minimal and only lasts a short time before joining back to the main branch.
What I meant by linear was the fact that you chose two directions - backwards or forwards. There were lots of paths to choose from vertically, and you're correct that the Sonic 3D games are missing this. What I was meaning by their linearity is the lack of "explorable" area, if the 3D Sonics suggest such a thing. It seems that with 3D Sonic, Sonic Team felt they needed to add areas that let the user walk where they wanted. The result is run fast in a cool scripted sequence, then slow down in a very small area and find the hidden ring boxes and destroy a mindless drone or two, mix and repeat. With Secret, they should dump this system in favor for a style more like the old, running fast and not slowing down to explore such pointless areas. With the classic (read: good) sonic games, you didn't do much standing still to see what the area had to offer. Instead you knew you were moving forward, and heading up or down. If you saw an item pass by while running, you stopped, turned backwards, got it, then resumed. This is exactly how Secret will work. you control his pace, you can turn Sonic backwards to pick up missed items, and choose your path on the fly as we did with the old games. This is essentially a 2D sonic game viewed from a 3D perspective. I think this control system has a much better chance of being successful than the wonky recent Sonic games.
I'm still looking for the sequel to Sonic Adventure that deserves to be the sequel to Sonic Adventure.
Secret Rings will not be that game.
Pffftt! Yea, like SA was that great.
I don't know what I liked better, fishing or doing ridiculous hunts for chaos emeralds. Amy's levels were okay, but if it wasn't for Sonic and Tails levels, that game would've been bust. Ever since then Sega has taken that formula and has made it worse with every game. Next Gen Sonic is so broken, it's not even funny.
Now me, I've actually got to play Sonic: TSRat E3, and while it's very linear, it's alot better than I expected.

Hunts for chaos emeralds 😉
The only part of SA that I didn't like was Big's fishing. Treasure hunting was the best "new" thing Sonic Team ever did as far as 3D goes with regards to the Adventure series. I haven't played a 3D game since SA2 disappointed me due to the Tails/Eggman levels--they should've been like Gamma's in SA which were actually fun--along with other miscellaneous things. Therefore, I don't really complain about the games after SA2, other than none of them have anything that makes me interested in them--well, except STH2K6 ironically as "everyone hates it."
ugh, the tails levels in SA2. Those were awful. I get angry just thinking about them.
Shigamado, from what you played, could you tell if there were multiple paths to take on the levles in Secret?
Hard to tell. It seemed to be one path, but that was a very early build.
Ugh, Sonic next-gen is about as low as Sonic has ever gotten. I downloaded the demo to my 360 and the problems were evident right off the bat. The same old problems still lingering from the Dreamcast days. Except that they were much worse here, and sadly they didn't get fixed for the final release. These problems were acceptable in 1999, but this was 2006. I can still play through, and enjoy both Dreamcast Sonic games though since I know the camera's quirks after so many years of playing them.
