I don't know if your familiar with this character, but before Sonic was SEGA's mascot, they had a little monkey-like boy named Alex Kidd. His latest REAL appearance was just the year before SEGA created Sonic, but he was in Sonic Superstars Tennis, too.

Anyway, on the Sonic and the Black Knight website, the one where you scroll around with the sword/mouse and destroy things with it to get rings/points, there are boxes (that you destroy) that say "Alex Kidd Imports" Also, correct me if i'm wrong, but amongst the "Wanted Signs" offering rewards for Sonic and Merlina, is what LOOKS to be like an Alex Kidd wanted sign... they dont say the names, just use pictures.

Anyway, I thought this was interesting.

Were the Alex Kidd games any good? There's a video game store by my house and they have a copy for the genesis. It's only a couple of bucks, and I was thinking of getting it.

I found Alex Kidd to be alright. I just really stink at the games. :<<br />
It's probably a bit hard, as I played one for the Master System, and getting hit once means instant death.

Alex Kidd in Wonderland on the Master System is awesome, old school platforming and turning your enemies into burgers and devoiring them, otherwise it's pretty insane too, very hard, but one of my childhood's fondest experiences.

"Uncle Opa... when is Alex coming back?"
"Alex Kidd... is sick. So he went on a trip to help him get better."
"We're not going with him?"
"No. He needs to be alone."
"I wonder if I'll ever see him again."
"Kidd... had a hard life. He needs some time to rest."
"Are you... crying, Uncle Opa?"
"No... I'm not crying."

Alex Kidd in Wonderland on the Master System

That's the one. I'd really forgotten the name of it. XD
I remember first seeing that as a kid and watching my cousin play it when she came over. I think I was about four or five years old at the time. Good times, good times...

... now I feel old. :<

I just got Sega Genesis Collection for PSP, actually just this morning. It had Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle. It was fun. I've also played it, and another one in the series on Game Tap. It's VERY hard. But I found it to be one of those "It doesn't look THAT old!" kind of games.

They sell... genesis games near you?

I found out my friend's older brother has a couple (yes a couple) Genesis systems. He had the Sonic game, and he's like... a Sonic fan that has a few X action figures that still, at 14, are his prized possessions. I wanted them BAD, but, of course... prized possessions. He like, makes such a big deal about them.

What was the one that came built in on the Master System 2? I seem to recall endless games of "Paper, scissors, stone" formed a key part of the plot. Also that whole "get hit once and die" thing was a bit of a revelation after Sonic...

^ Alex Kidd in Miracle World.

Wonderland? Was that what it was called in PAL regions?

The last one came right before Sonic in years.

But yeah, rock paper scissors were how Alex battled the villains

Yup, Alex died in '90. No wait, actually 07, cuz h was in Superstars Tennis.

But I dont think we'll ever see him anytime soon, not counting his name painted on the side of a box in a Sonic website.

Actually, Alex is supposed to appear in the Superstars racing.

Yea there's this great game store near me called the Play N' Trade. They have a HUGE sselection, including a stockpile of older stuff, such as Genesis, NES, SNES, N64, Sega CD, etc. It's where I do most of my game shopping.

If it makes you feel any better, SADX:PC does not work with Wine either, or it did not the last time I tried it.

Yeah, well, I was amazed when I found this great place called Slackers. IT has Genesis, SNES, Dreamcast, Gamecube... It has every friggin' thing 5 ways from sunday. They have a used gamecube for like 30 bux, and I'm SO gonna get it.

Oh... my... god. I think I need to see a proffesional. My love of Sonic has forced me to get a gamecube JUST for the purpose of a few Sonic games. Wow.

I'd recommend sticking to the portable ones that aren't Sonic Rivals, the classics, and about half of Sonic Unleashed.

I'd recommend Sonic Chronicles as well, but Bioware made way better games than it. The broken gameplay isn't too bad, though.

... Yes I am aware I probably contradicted myself.

That's the title I remember it having in the UK (I've still got my Master System upstairs ). I wouldn't know about any other PAL areas.

"New style Sonic action" isn't always a good thing. Something like Billy Hatcher for NGC is a decent SEGA game. There are plenty of others out there.

But Sonic Adventure is, and its a good thing.

Billy Hatcher = WTF.

Billy Hatcher was also developed by Sonic Team. I think it plays better than Sonic Adventure. There's not too much I can say about it as I've never beaten it, but I think you should at least give it a try. Besides, a few other Sonic Team characters make an appearance depending on how many medals are collected in-game.

Played it. Kinda enjoyed it. Seem to remember the egg rolling physics being wonky as all get out. It was like the SONIC TEAMâ„¢ version of Mario 64 but they were missing that certain je ne sais quois that makes Miyamoto's games so... delicious.

Egg rolling? Sounds more like Katamari Damacy to me.
