This is one I've been mulling around for some time but still cant piece together completely:
When does Knuckles' story in Sonic 3 take place?
The events obviously take place AFTER the events in Sonic's game. Hints:
-The Angel Island is in the sky; there is no horizon at the first part of Act 1
-Much of Marble Garden Zone is caved in
-Water Level changed in Carnival Night Zone
-No Death Egg at Launch Base Zone, lower water level, collapsed building
-Ghosts are not sealed in Sandopolis Zone
-Provided you go the way you're supposed to, the Death Egg is missing in Lava Reef Zone and Hidden Palace Zone
-Where's the rest of Sky Sanctuary?
-Metal Sonic isn't destroyed in Sonic's game, you only short-ciruit him.
-Sonic is friendly with Knuckles
But how soon after?
I always placed the start of Knuckles' game at the end of Sonic's game (no earlier than Sky Sanctuary), probably at the cutscene at the end of S3&K perfect ending. The only off point is the fact that Angel Island Zone is green intead of a charred once-forrest (could it have grown back in only a few days?). I kind-of ignored the cutscene at the begining of Sonic and Knuckles with Knuckles (with the Egg-Robo and the bomb), despite being disappointed that it wasn't in the combined game.
If you ever saw the imperfect ending of Sonic and Knuckles with Sonic, the Egg-Robo emerges from the wreckage of the Egg-Walker MKIII. I used to think that signifyed that Eggman either died or was a cyborg...now im thinknig he simply wasn't in the Egg-Walker MKIII.
Ultimately I thought the after the Doomsday battle, Eggman sent the Egg Robo to try stealing the Master Emerald a final time.
What are your theories? Anyone else think that Eggman was dead at some point?
