EDIT: (Need sleep, better elaborate)
I visited the SWS2B forums for the first time recently (got in on the first try-- never mind what I mean, those who know will understand). I looked about and found a particular topic about the difficulties of hacking Knuckles into Sonic 1 when Stealth, a prominent member of the Sonic Hacking community shows up out of nowhere two days ago and drops the bomb: the aforementioned Sonic 1 hack with a perfect playable Knuckles, all his abilities in tow. There's no ips patch available from what I've seen, just the image itself (hence why I provide no link to it).
The game plays beauifully, Knuckles handles quite well. It's nearly perfect sans very minor graphical glitches with some frames of animation (his "standing on edge" for one). Also, to preserve the game's original pallette Knuckles sports blue socks instead of the more familiar green and Sonic 3-only yellow. Looks quite well, actually (unfortunately, it's hard to make out in the pics provided above because I resized them a little too extremely).
The game has Knuckles' Spin Dash, climb and glide abilites incorporated flawlessly. It even appears to use S2/S3's improved accelaration engine (running down slopes speeds you up omg!). This is an incredible feat of hacking prowess, and I congratulate Stealth, Liz and everyone else involved in making possible what Sonic Team were far too lazy to do themselves.
Yeah, I started playing this 2 days ago. Marble Zone Act 2 is very easy with Knuckles.
Ha, what fun. I just finished playing this. I really wish Sega had bothered to do this now, although a lot of Praise has go to go to Stealth for such fantastic work.
Anyone know if there's a hack for to play as Tails? Or a Sonic Jam-esque spindash hack?
Awesome. Leaves for SWS2B to find, download to SMC, and Play this hack on GP32.
Hehe, the Sonic 1 palette does wonders for his colouring. This is pretty cool. A huge achievemnt, indeed.
Edit: I just downloaded it and beat GHZ Act 2 in 14 secs... o.o Yay gliding.
So does this mean that the Knuckles gliding on the conveyer belt rumor has been proven false?
Yes.
wow thats so cool. Must Download.
Also I got Knuckles in some areas in Sonic 3 and Knuckles where he shouldnt. no cheating. well a little bit.
Got him in Sonic's Carnival Night Zone Act 2 and Death Egg.
Getting Knux in Sonic's CNZ2 isn't that hard... when you're about to run down the HUGE barber shop pole, just glide off, and try to find a little porch with a vacuum tube that will yank you up, well out of the way from Knux's usual path. It's pretty neat, I'll admit. And hey, at the end of the level, just climb up the tubes all the way and fight the boss you don't normally fight, too; I usually do.
Heard about this. Will get around to downloading it and playing it when I don't feel lazy.

Tails is already being worked on, Sonic 1 w/ Spin Dash I could of swore already exists. I mean, the Knux hack alone proves it's possible.
Didn't Sonic Jam have the option for Sonic to spin dash in Sonic 1? Though I doubt most people have that...but this sounds sweet. I might have to check it out, not like I need an incentive to play Sonic 1 again...

o.o
Yes.
I googled earlier and found a whole heap of interesting hacks - you can play as Shadow, Mighty, Espio, and Metal Sonic in Sonic 1, in some of them. Alas, I couldn't get any of them to work though.

Yep, thats what I do. Also its wierd that its actually Egg Robo piloting the magnet ship. there is probably a long and technical reason for this but its nice.

i've played as metal sonic after a freind downloaded one onto his psp.
sadly it wasn't amasingly well sprited, as it'd flick back to sonic when jumping, spinning, balancing on an edge, etc.
but it was fun to play for awhile.
This baby's all over SWS2B.

I haven't seen what the two added codes do to the game, but considering Stealth has asked for people NOT to immediately spoil 'em it should be something good. Again, per EZ TOS I won't link to the new file. You'll have to find it yourself.
After having tried the code, it KINDA is something nice, but it still feels kinda cheap. And not in the sense that it makes the game real easy.
Completists should be okay with the first code - you'll find out what it is fairly quick.
I have no idea why they didn't let me post this picture. All of a sudden when I finished that post, what I put wasn't there.
