As you can see from John's prediction, there are still plenty of the new characters in line first. (And who knows how many new characters will be added to that list with the next games ._.)
I think they'll only start drawing the "forgotten ones" when they start running out of post-SA characters.. that is if they don't add new pictures for them again.

Great to see Chaos again - the pic is pretty cool. However, I think that after [and in fact during the latter part of] SA1, he should have had his tail intact in all his subsequent appearances (SA2/B multiplayer, Sonic Battle, this artwork). It could just look like it did when it was attached to Froggy, relatively short with a little diamond-shaped end.
Interesting detail on his brain there. Kinda wish they'd do artwork of Artificial Chaos now... but before that I demand Metal Sonic. It's been far too long, man! We might get Tikal, Gamma, Emerl (mayyybe G-Merl), Super Shadow, Super Silver, Burning Blaze, etc. before that, though. Hopefully then after that we'd also get Neo Metal Sonic.
It probably might not ever happen, but I'd also like to have Mecha Sonic (SA1 tube design) and Mecha Knuckles (Advance 1). They're modern characters (as opposed to being 'classic' or 'pre-SA1' characters), so there is the tiniest possibility. I can dream.
Chaos was, bar Cream, the last good character they came up with.
Though some of the Secret Rings ones intrigue me.

Well I thought it was Eggman Nega. But my monitor doesn't show the colour red. So it looks all black and grey to me.
If you take your translator to the comments section of the entry several people has guessed Gamma. It actually looks like the pose they used for Gamma in SA X.
