Can someone get a clear shot of Mecha Sonic in his tube in the Final Egg in either Sonic Adventure or SADX?
GHZ -> Sonic Encyclopedia -> "M" -> Mecha Sonic
I could give you a direct link, but I want you to take the scenic route.
Ah, yes, the scenic route is always a good choice. Thanks!
EDIT:(looks at the pic) Uh, er, well, I was looking for something that would lend itself better to being a referrence for drawing him, maybe a couple shots from different angles.
Better late than never.
That's a pretty kickass picture of Mecha, I didn't know such a pic exsisted, cool.
My poor baby, what did they do to you?? Is this a punishment for those consecutive failures on Sky Sanctuary?
On a slightly more serious note, I had no idea he was silver. The tint of the tube sure fooled me.
It seems to be based more on the Sonic 2 design than the Sonic 3 iteration 😯
but even then it's bloody fugly
Mecha Sonic shall reuturn one day!
Yeah right...
Reminds me of Metal Sonic crossed with Omega or something!
How did you manage to get the pic Psxphile? was it ripped from SA1 directly?
From hacking SA:DX PC version, most likely.
I'm just the messenger. A fellow by the name of Doronetty extracted the model, pieced it together and cleaned it up.
Whoa buddy...I don't remember Mecha being that armed on the Death Egg. Those guns surely could've helped him though, because I owned his metal can EVERYTIME! >_>
Yeah, I like the rocket launcher hands. =D It was ugly, but at least it looked somewhat lethal, and you could tell it was supposed to be Silver Sonic, despite the update.
Nice!
I always thought that was Silver Sonic 2? with the wire framed eyes and whatnot... since he was in pocket adventure for the Neo Geo and in The comics he was named silver sonic 2
Comics are a different continuity. On a different note, I played the game recently and the fingers are separate in-game. Still friggin' sweet.
Technically he is Silver Sonic (either the latest model yet to be unleashed, an older model that was never used, or a modern take on the Sonic 2 version - rebuilt and then stored away for eternity. I prefer option one personally), though that is not his official name.
As far as I know*, the only mention of the name 'Silver Sonic' in the games is in the english-language manual of the 8-bit version of Sonic 2 - I do not see any mention of it in the Genesis version's english-language manual. Understandably though, many fans also referred to the Genesis version's Sonic-robot as 'Silver Sonic'. In Japan, he is called 'Mecha Sonic' (not Metal. We know who has that title) - I believe this is either in the japanese Sonic 2 manual or in an officially-backed japanese playguide.
So assuming that the black robot is indeed related to the Sonic 2 robot (which I believe is a safe bet, myself) the two SA1 tube robots are Metal Sonic (blue. Duh, I know) and Mecha Sonic (black). You could consider him (the black robot) 'Silver Sonic', due to that being a popular fan name for that particular Sonic-robot 'line' in the western world, but it isn't official.
Someone that's in-the-know please tell me (and help back me up in doing so) - does the official japanese playguide for SA1 give names for these two robots? I doubt it seeing as they are simple wallpaper - never actually tackled as enemies by the player, but hey, that guide apparently gives a name and E-Series number for characters as obscure as the mechanised pirates in Casinopolis (E-29 Egg Pirate)** and the mechanical fish Big fishes for (E-28 Mecha Fish)**.
And yes, even though he's blue, the S3&K (Sky Sanctuary) Sonic-robot is related to the Sonic 2 model (the similarity of the attack pattern tells us that). He is also called Mecha Sonic.
*I have not seen any documentations (english or japanese) related to Sonic Pocket Adventure, so it's possible there is reference to that character as 'Silver Sonic' in the english manual or somesuch.
**According to this character guide on GameFAQs (which I personally see errors in, but.. I don't think he would have just made up those robots' names and numbers). Would be nice to have confiramtion from someone who has seen the japanese guide (or scans of it) though.
Nice analysis, CyberKnux. That's my opinion as well.
Not that it's anything new, though. We've been over this so many times I've lost count.
