I have no idea what rock I've been hiding under for the past few days but...
Wow.
Sonic will be using an inner tube! Either that or he'll run at the bottom of the pool or on the water's surface!
Sega's sports team is handling the game, not Sonic Team. Thank god!
Actually a good rival for Princess Peach would be Vanilla. They're about equal in size.
Maybe Sonic will be as fast running underwater as Mario is swimming on top of it.
The 100 meter dash would just not be fair though.
Ref: "On your mark, get set........GO!"
Mario: (Starts running)"Here we g-"
Ref: "And the winner is Sonic with a record 100 meters in 1.5 seconds!!"
Mario: "-ooooWHAT?!! WTH just happened?!!"
I wonder how they're going to explain them suddenly being in the same universe... and if they'll ever cross paths in-game again. I guess I'm just interested to see if there's any impact on either series' plots. Personally, I hope there WOULD be, but that's just because I'm a fan of both.
Then again, it's a sports game, so it's unlikely to have any plot, but still, one can dream.
I heard Judo was just confirmed. Therefore...
TEH WIN X'S ONE MILLION.

They're toys that come to life. No wait, trophies.
NO... OMG, COMPANY MASCOT COSTUMES.
Oh boy, just what the Wii needs-
Another collection of Minigames!
HUZZAH, finally we get minigames on the Wii!
Sonic X Mario - DISCUSS!

Well said.
I just kept reading the Nintendo/Sega article and thinking, "No the Olympics are not the best way to pit them against each other. Beating the snot out of each other is the way I would prefer."
Instead of Sonic beating Mario in SSBB or this game, I would have preferred it to be an action game with them fighting each other and/or where they team up against a Bowser and Eggman team-up, but I guess I'll get this anyway.

Sonic X Mario - DISCUSS!
We have been. For quite a while, now.
Is this really being developed by Sega Sports? I thought after Visual Concepts was sold to Take Two Interactive, the Sega Sports team was dissolved. In another interview Simon Jeffrey wouldn't say who was developing it, only that it was being made by Sega Japan under Shiggy's oversight.
Maybe they meant the team who made Virtua Tennis on the PE3/Xbox360?

Or even throw Sonic into the Paper Mario world perhaps.
I wonder how high the possibilities are for this game to have online multiplayer.
I believe nothing about it unless I see shops stocking it.
Three companies wouldn't waste their dough borrowing the rights to the olympics for a premature April Fools joke. It's real.
"Unless I see shops stocking it" Hahhaa! Indeed this is quite the surprise, but it's the real McCoy my friend. =P

Maybe Tose is being used for the DS version.

Heh, heh, yeah, that would be cool maybe have Sonic as an addition party member or maybe even an unlockable too bad it won't happen. As far as online, I say this has a very good chance to have it; I think it would be a big mistake not to have this online.
W.T.F.
HOLY ****!
WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN? If this is some sort of sick AF's day joke, somebody will have hell to pay... >_> >_>
No, it is not an April Fool's joke; it's the real deal. I for one am glad about time Sonic and Mario share a game together too bad it wasn't an adventure game.
No, an adventure game with Mario and Sonic would just be terrible. Sorry, but it's just obvious. Especially because there'd be a "Story Mode", and if I wanted to have to go through something like that, I'd read one of the countless terrible fanfics on the net.
So? What wrong with Mario and Sonic adventure game with a Story Mode? The only problem I see is how Mario and Sonic gonna communicated with each other since Mario doesn't say much.
I'd have to agree with SHADONIC... except for the "communication" bit.
Yeah, I would love to have a game where Sonic and Mario get transported to each other universes. I mean I would love to have Mario running through Green Hill Zone and Sonic running through Yoshi Island or the Dark Lands. Then have a finale were Sonic and Mario have to fight a combined Eggman/Bowser threat. As a matter of fact, I made a topic about that a long time before the EZHack even happened.

In the wrong hands, it will be something terrible.
Maybe if it was developed by IntSys, they could pull it off with great game design, and without going into bad fanfiction territory.
IntSys can make some incredibly ridiculous game stories. See AW1 and to a lesser extent the other AW games. A Sonic Mario crossover platformer should try to stay away from any heavy story and go purely for gameplay. Pull up something easy like a portal, Eggman and Bowser finding a way into each others' worlds, or extradimensional characters and let it roll. I could see it having huge levels with both Bowser and Eggman enemies, springs, question blocks, etc. Mario and Sonic would each be able to take advantage of level objects, explore, or attack in different ways. For example stomping might only stun robotic enemies, while Sonic would get only specialized shields (hmm, I wonder what the mushroom shield would do :P) from Mario's powerups instead of powerful attacks or flight. Coins and rings would count towards the same 1-up meter, but rings are both droppable and defensive. Sonic would only be able to hit question blocks from above (bounce attack) or the sides, while Mario would use the normal below and sides techniques. Mario would have to obtain super sneakers or use an alternate route to get past loops, while Sonic would be at a disadvantage in the water unless he runs over it.
I'd rather have Alivin-Earthworm, the guy responsible for the Super Mario Bros. Z flash series on Newgrounds, to make a story for a Sonic/Mario crossover in the future.
Wait...
Veckums, that idea of yours... sheer genius! It's a perfect blend of the gameplay styles of the two series.

I doubt Mario could pull off a loop-de-loop, and Sonic would be bored to tears trying to blast thru some of Mario's levels without dying. Their level designs just aren't made fo each other. Levels that expose both their talents would work tho.

Well, I also sorta think they would be Sonic and Mario enemies spread out in all the worlds; maybe have the worlds fusing or something as well.
XD Just finished reading all of those comics there and I like it a lot.
Wario and Shadow FTW.
I'd take Wakuigi and Silver anyday against Sonic and Mario.
Full Metal Rayzor, the link doesn't work!
Or is it just me?

WHOO! HOW BOUT THAT!? Site went down all day and now it's back up... sort of. The forums are still down, and so are the comics, but we're still alive.

Shadow's not greedy and determined enough, you mean Nack and Wario. I can see those two as a team =D
I can't wait for this game to come out, it looks awesome. Sonics gonna cream Mario for sure.
Heh, I can't wait for screenshots.
Maybe we'll get something from Min-E3?
Games for All?(That's so far off the actual name I'm embarrassed =P) Or whatever it's called. Isn't that in like the fall though?
Looks like we're seeing the game at E3 after all, along with many others. Gamespot now has a list of confirmed games that will appear at the expo in a few weeks, which can be found here.
Sweetness. I wish E3 was like it used tob e just for this year, because there's so muich schick I want to see this year. I'm sure G4 will have coverage, but it won't be like it used to be i'm sure. Thanks for that info Shadic
Found this link in a thread on GameFAQs. Apparantly it's a scan of a magazine which mentions new characters like Shadow, Eggman,Wario, Waluigi, etc.
I'm pumped. Games For All is coming soon isn't it? Like next week?
Silver is in this?
Now we know who'll win at weight lifting.
Well there goes my slim chance of the Nack-Wario teamup. Dang those Hannah Montana fans.
The question is, will people try to avoid this game like the plague because it has Sonic characters, and lots of the new characters at that?
Looks like a typical cast of characters. It'll be interesting for sure, but dare I say "too much excercise", looking at the estimated event breakdowns.
Hell track and field was too much excercise, back in the day >>;

But it has the Mario characters too to drag people in, so everything balances out.
Ironically, the Mario characters are a bit bland.
Man what
