And Sonic's stats aren't bad. If they are then he was always basically a bad character in racing games except Sonic Riders. In there kind of games, Sonic always had the highest top speed but was always crappy in everything else.
Think about it. Why the hell would he need a good dash ability when he's already too damn fast?

I was wondering about this when we saw Espio and Charmy in the videos, but to be honest I wasn't expecting it. I am so getting this game. 
Over 50% in all areas is brokenly good for the average player. For those who slow down an accelaration maxout is best (Oh Shooting Star, thank you for making me not suck at Mario Kart).
Giving Sonic max speed is the logical choice, but who would pick max speed with no control, aceleration or boost? Give at least one of the three a 40%'er. Otherwise it's pure speed and no playbility.
Guarantee Shadow will be NEARLY max speed and have better stats to make up for it.
I also approve of the overall roster very much. If I had my way the only changes I'd make would be:
Espio replacing Shadow as speed
DK or Diddy Kong replacing Daisy (if DK, switch Waluigi to speed and Wario to skill so DK can be power)
The classic Sonic games are also well represented. The only new Sonic characters are Shadow and Blaze, and most people like Blaze anyway. She's a 2D character too.
Mario is broken because in the gameplay video of the 100m dash the Sonic player actually avoided more hurdles and Mario still won. And that's a speed event.
This game is being shown off at Wii Connection Tours across Australia at the moment. Hoping to get a chance to play it on the weekend, but from what I've heard there's been a lot of work put into it and it's a LOT of fun to play.
Also, Spoilers (Select To Read): apparently Sonic wears a lifevest in the swimming races. Hehe.

That confuses me greatly. ?_? Anywho...I think i'm now going to ask for this for Xmas and instead get Brawl on relase date, in place of this. Then again if I find myself obtaining $50 extra by November 20th...I may go ahead and get this as well.

I got a chance to play a demo version of it today and I was Sonic in the 100m freestyle. He wears a life vest while he's swimming and does some sort of bizarre standing breast-stroke (on the same note, Vector swims exactly like an actual crocodile would, which is made of absolute win). I came dead last twice, although I wasn't expecting to do well with Sonic. Daisy, Peach and Yoshi all did pretty well.
The only other event they had for demo was the 100m sprint (or whatever the correct name is). I didn't get a chance to play because there were about a dozen nine-year olds who'd overtaken the area, but Sonic won the race with a good 2 or 3 seconds ahead of whoever came 2nd.
It seems like it's gonna be a good party game, but as we've speculated it's basically an Olympics game with Sonic and Mario characters in it, rather than a Sonic/Mario game set at the Olympics. It sorta feels like Wii Sports 2.

According to Sega.com, the games rated E. They also said the Wii version comes out the 20th of November, but it says that the DS version comes out Winter 08.o0

Before peopole start yelling about Tails' speed, note his acceleration. He's like a reverse Sonic, or Yoshi in Mario Kart.

Well of course they wear their full outfits... if they didn't, the Sonic characters wouldn't have toes while the Mario characters would. It'd be imbalanced, as I recall toe manipulation was quite important in swimming, and it's quite hard to manipulate toes that aren't.
And Knuckles doesn't have toes

Apparently the Mii character has been cut, although I won't swear to that in court.
Also, from talking to people who've played the demo version exclusively, it seems you can unlock bonus Mario and Sonic music remixes.

All of the character models look sculpted of clay, but close enough so that they don't look like straight up toys. I noticed it in the trailer and really like the distinctness of the art style for the characters. It's actually a wonderful design schematic that they've got going here.
