For whom the bubbles burst?
...sorry, bad pun.
That bit on SH, in Hang Castle zone, where you're running vertically down the side of the tower, took my breath away the first time. That was pretty cool^^

I KNEW I was forgetting one pit-of-doom level that freaked me out more than most...
When I was little, I had nightmares about falling UP, and just falling forever.
now, I wonder what Hang Castle reminded me of....
It was even worse than Egg Fleet....
The upside-down thing isn't new though. Death Egg Zone (S&K) had it as well, although Hang Castle did a better job of it because it was in 3d (better job of capturing the emotions I mean)
Tell you another part that has you on edge, S3&K Hyrdocity Act 1 boss while playing as Knux! Cause he can't jump as high as Sonic, he can't jump over the wierd sperical bomb thing as it swoops down at him, so you have to climb the walls and hang on them, jumping and gliding as it goes past underneath.
Took me ages to figure that one out, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

"Have no fear: Amy Rose is here!"
And: When Am,y glomped Shadow, thinking he was Sonic. I mean, WTF?
Actually, all Amy instances scare the sh*t outta me...
The final FINAL boss in Knuckles in Sonic 2. Since knux can't jump as high as Sonic (as SX mentioned), I can't get over the stupid spiked hands of death. Beat it as Sonic and Tails, but can't beat it as Knuckles to this day. I usually end up just turning off the game.
Little tip, don't try to jump over them while he's walking, you will fail. Wait until he lands from the sky, his entire body will be at ground level, ready for a single strike. It'll take ages, but it's worth it for completion.
Alternatively, you could try Sonic Jam, as it's nice enough to give 3 rings before Silver.
Thanks!
EDIT: You rock, Craig!!!
the one with the soulless eyes
has any1 goy a picture of that. i would like to see it.
(Expects Craig to come in any minute with Tails Doll pic)

Actually, if you go to the other end of the room from him, and spin dash and jump toward him, you can jump high enough to hit him between the arm-firings. Ofr something like that. I'll have to pull out my Genny and try to remember it.
Thanks everyone!!
(so happy, almost hugs computer)
I used to be scared of Hydrocity when I was little, again because of fear of drowning.
I never feared the Sandopolis ghosts, becuase I never played S&K until I was 13...
OH THE HUMILIATION!
Anyway, back on topic...
The SA2 ghosts would scare the hell out of me because they would just pop up out of nowhere and give you a shock, they don't now.
Why do people think the Tails Doll is creepy? I think he's cute!
http://www.sonic-mania.com/personajes/images/Dtails.jpg
Isn't he so ADORABLE?
Tails Doll's stare... ><
But still, the best...Have no fear!AMY ROSE IS HERE! ^____^
That and "Amy Rose is here!" "Let's do it!" ._.
It's funnier when Shadow says something and Sonic's like "Let's do it!"...
And that time in Shadow when Amy yells at you in that creepy ghost house level when you run through the chao crowd with a burning torch and kill them all. She's like "SHADOW!!!11!" like they're MARRIED. ._.
I think you're thinking of this exchange as well:
Shadow: "Let me show you my true power!"
Amy: "I'm getting excited!"
Them ghosts in Sandopolis are pretty durn scary, but seriously, I cannot, for the life of me get over the horrid creepiness that is the Tails Doll. He's so...soulless that he's awesome, but damn it, it's scary.
CURSE OF THE TAILS DOLL
That one link I CANNOT stay for more then like 4 seconds because it...it FREAKS.ME.OUT. Holy Crap, I'm sleeping with one eye open tonight and wooden swords in my arms.
Oh, and that one level in Sonic Adventure, the mirror room with Amy. The music just makes it more haunting (although I like the music for some odd reason). Seems like anything that scares me in Sonic I find alluring in some way. Ironic.
~Neo
You're right, Mirror Room always gives me the creeps. Actually mirrors kinda scare me in real life, too, especially at night. o.o''
King Boom Boo's puking noise.
Or how about how he yells, "BRA! BRA!"
He needs to see a spectral shrink!
Say Neo, do you know how I can get in-touch with the creator of that Tails doll pic? I'd really like to put it on my "Tails from the Crypt" website.
The Cosmic Angel boss from Sonic Advance as ANYONE but Knuckles.

Sorry. No clue. No clue if he has an e-mail hosted on his profile or anything.

Thanks anyway.
** When I saw there was swearing in Shadow on the back of the box. It turned ouit there wasn't (just say damn a lot) any swearing but the thought of swearing in a Sonic game. Other than a fan game. They can swear all they want.
Sonic: "F**k you Eggman!"
Shadow's Pure Dark ending, where he says he'll destroy the whole planet. And maybe the cutscene before the Egg Dealer after completing the Hero objective of Lava Shelter, where he tells Eggman he's going to send him straight to hell.
Other than that, Tikal's "bouncing" motion when holding the chao in Amy's flashback scene in SA is a bit...creepy.

That webpage is rather freaky, but I wouldn't say its all too scary. I just stared at it for about 2-3 cycles of the accompanying music (ahhh, he's sucking away my soul!). Quality artwork otherwise, anyway.
However, it is a bit...hmm...I dunno...what's the word? Abstract and surreal I guess, in a really dark way.
Either way its a cool find...and I know several people I could freak out with it .
[LURK]
Well then, you're much braver then me for I cannot stand to look at that thing. It's SO freaky.
~Neo
My reaction when I saw the Bloody Tails Doll. "Ooo-ugh..." (plus the jibblies)
The scariest/creepiest/freakiest moment for me in all the time I had played Sonic games occured when I was a wee bit at four. (I'm seventeen now, just to give you an idea of how long ago this has been.) It was actually an in-game bug that I haven't been able to emulate since. I became so scared that I instantly yelled for my Dad who came in to see it just in time.
After beating the boss in the Aquatic Ruin Zone (totem poles shooting arrows that you had to dodge and jump on to reach Robotnik), I did the normal of running forward and freeing the little animals. But little animals didn't run out, no...
GIANT RECTANGLE RED BLOBS CAME BOUNCING OUT! AHH!!!
Now that I look back, I know it was a sprite bug (the red blobs were really bocks of lava from either Metropolis or Hill Top), but when I was four and clueless to the inner mechanics of a game, it really scared me.
Good God, Neo, you weren't kidding about that pic. It looks like something you'd see in a Stephen King movie.
thanks to perfect chaos void and the drowning music i am hydro-phobic
let's see...
Count me in with all of those "drowning music people." (Most recently when I had to do Knuckles's part in Cannon's Core in SA2/Battle...I had no idea that there was an air necklace item! (I was so relieved that I didn't have to swim all the way BACK after hitting that switch!) ... ...Also the time when I discovered you could drown in Dark? Garden in SA2 (I was standing in the water, watching the little chao swim...everything was nice and peaceful...and THEN...I think you know the rest ><).
Also, the fact that Dr. Robotnik/Eggman is actually able to OUTRUN Sonic in S2 (Genesis) (or at least stay ahead) before the final final boss is kind of creepy.
And the way Eggman's mouth moved during the final story in Shadow...wierd!

And that the fact Eggy did it again in S3&K in his relaunched Death Egg. Is it because they were in space?
I was always afraid of Sonic Chaos's final boss's second form when I was younger. Not knowing where Robotnik will come from, and the fact that he's always going on an impossibly top speed, and that he can instant death you even if you still had rings...
Infact Sonic 2 gg's final boss still is scary to me. It cries instant death, like all the bosses of the game. That and those warp tubes of Scrambled Egg Zone, ak! One wrong move of several split second decisions and you end up getting your face impaled by a floor of spikes. And the deadly platform n' tube challenge at the end of act 2...
I'm surprised nobody has put down the 2D special stages of Sonic Triple Trouble, especially that last one which can give even the best gamer nightmares...!
Also when I was younger, the squishing wall of Hydrocity act 2 scared me alot.
Remember waaay back in S1 in the Marble Garden when you have to race the lava through a short obstacle filled hall? That was kind of stressing for me. "Ahhhh! Must run from lava!!!" type thing. Fortunately, it only lasts about 8 seconds if you're slow. You know, I think anything that has to do with lava and lava pits makes me anxious in games.
I think seeing anything that obviously had the potential to (or, worse yet, did) rise or fall to hurt/crush/drown/block/chase/otherwise-KO you made me play with caution. (Still kinda does today, too!)
The music in Marble Zone (S1)
When the Chemical rose in Chemical Plant Zone Act 2 - I always used to get my girlfriend to do it. *blush* (S2)
When Eggy random jumps out of the ground in Marble Garden Zone (S3)
The big spikey fall things that look like orange piano's in Lava Reef Zone (SnK)
When Zero crashes through the mirror when chasing Amy (SA)
Knuckles bit in Cannon's Core before I got the Air necklace (SA2)
The special zones in SAdv2
And the random drowning in all water levels.
1. Whenever a spike came down on Sonic and killed him unexpectedly.
2. Falling into the water after it's risen in Chemical Zone.
3. The Tails Doll.
If we're talking spikes, how come no one has mentioned the Mystic Caves spike-trap of "OH SNAP!"
Nothing's more terrifying than the thought of spending another 50 seconds waiting for Super Sonic to wear off before you're allowed the dignity of dying and trying again.
Am I really the only person who has managed to get out of that death pit with Super Sonic? I'm sure I recall falling in it as Super and being amazed to find that the slight extra jumping height I had meant I could get out again.
Maybe I only partly fell in - he floats along anyway, so maybe I reacted quick enough that he sort of bounced off the spikes and back out again?
I definitely recall celebrating that I'd not died in that pit. Maybe I had a cool bug
DW
You might be thinking of a different pit. The thing was fricken huge, you wouldn't be able to see the ledge you feel from while standing on the spikes.
Seriously, when you're down there, you're down. and 9 times out of ten you fell while openning the bridge and so that's closed over you with an echoing cackle "THIS CRYPT SHALL BE YOUR TOMB!"
Eh, when I was the ccoootteesst lilll' thinngg I didn't like the second level of Sonic 2. The thought of drowning in-game frightened me.
Yes... I was an odd child.
When I played Pumpkin Hill on SA2 on Dreamcast the music was already creepy. When I went on that hill with the church on it and those ghosts popped out of the tombstones, I must have jumped 10 ft! It was so unexpected!
The next one was the first time I saw the big ghosts in one of Knucles levels on the same game. It was that pyramid place and the ghost went in circles around this... machine of some sort. On dreamcast, you'd remember it by the fact that Big made a cameo inside the machine. He was on a ledge or something. Anyway. The ghosts were huge! They had a stitched up mouth and black eyes and they just followed you a bit. I don't know. They looked creepy to me.
Looking at that pic, Craig, you must be right. In which case there are at least 2 spike lined pits you can't get out of in Mystic Caves as normal Sonic, cos I remember getting out of one of them as Super. Darned if I can remember where mind you. That one was definitely not so deep - you could see the top, you just couldn't jump high enough.

That deadly dooming pit of doom gets me every now and then when I think I'm invincible. If only Sonic had taken those rock climbing lessons. If only.

But put Eggy into the SA2 Chao Gardens. Same basic, creepy principle.
"yosh!" ?
The only time I was creeped out by anything in a Sonic game was the final boss in S3. When the sky turned all dark, and you think you've just beaten the boss, when, alas, Eggy appears again, this time in something with HANDS.
Mind you, I was really young at the time. XP

I was refering to how rediculously fast he is and how disturbingly flexible his legs are.
Not that I've gotten to the final boss of Chaotix, but I reckon that Project Metallix would be pretty scary.
Not really. He's just....red.
And disturbingly easy to defeat with Charmy.
