WHAT IS DOWN BUTTON?
Trust me, I've tried.
lol blunderbat
AN UP WORKS TOO.
What the heck is a "heebie-jeebie"? A miserable little pile of 1930's STD?
I remember Cryptic Castle in Shadow. Game sucked, but the levels were clever. Heck, when Eggman said "I don't remember this part of the castle..." and about 3 min. later, I'm grinding on a rail being chased by a Mummy Returns-inspired demon. I didn't expect that, so when it came, I nearly s*** my pants. And I was in the basement at like, 10:00 PM, so that's saying a lot.

I'm quaking on the inside.

lol When I was little I had irrational fears of being crushed or drowning in Sonic games. I'd always jump when it happened.
And TUS, actually put something into a post or don't bother please. I don't mean pictures of child molesting clowns either.
Someone's kilopost just got reassessed.
Acrio. I was stating what I though which was ... dot dot dot.
That Sonic CD code that you enter in the sound test. If you do it right this freaky human Sonic appears with boss music playing in the background. It scared the **** out of me when I first saw it. >_<;;;

Earlier in the thread someone said that other game genres had classic terrifying levels that still scare you to this day, but that Sonic had none, (except maybe Sandopolis act 2). I disagree. For one thing, Sonic mastered the fear of drowning. If someone who played the game back at a young age who says they didn't quake with fear during half of Chemical Plant act 2, they'd most likely be a liar.
And in the later levels in the games, like Scrap Brain or Metropolis, the crushings can come out of nowhere without warning. I had to inch along the level, inspecting everything, to do it deathless. ><
It's things like what TTG is saying that makes the older games so brilliant. I was playing Chemical Plant the other day and was having a heck of a time with that area.
sonicfan1984, what code are you talking about? If there is a human Sonic in CD, I'm sure more people would know about it. (I'm not doubting you. I just want to try it out.)
I remember having a total adrenaline rush after finally beating the last boss in Sonic 2. I sat and shook for 10 minutes afterwards (and this was at about 1am too).

It's one of the pieces of artwork you can unlock through the sound test. Just imagine Sonic, as done by Marvel.

Oh, now I remember! I never saw it since I only have the PC version of CD.
The missles in the Death Egg in S&K3. The first few times I went there, they came and I was like "WTF!?". Yes.....I was startled a little. They are hard to overcome at first, but play your cards right, and you can beat 'em.
But who's to say that they still aren't as annoying as heck? I lost a lot of rings to those $hit shooters.
Sandopolis Act 2. The level lasted too long, rising sand made me antsy and those crummy ghosts kept hovering at the top of the screen to remind me I was screwed if it got dark...if it did get dark, I'd sit in one place and spin dash until time ran out.
Launch Base Act 2 Boss (Sonic 3)...I thought I beat the final boss and then he comes with that bad boy of a boss...
Hydrocity Act 2...never got past the moving wall for the longest...
And every water level...I'd freak when I'm running out of air and no bubbles nearby...
When I was 3 years old I was scared of Dr Robotnik's wrecking ball machine at the end of Green Hill Zone.
Now I'm scared of Tails Doll, Eggrobo (I think it was because of the cutscene at the end of Sonic's story), and the final boss of Sonic 2.
I was a little scared of the Doomsday Zone bot, just because it's the only weapon Robotnik ever made that can stop Super Sonic. Now I think it's cool.
I have two moments. There's probably more, but I'll just note these:
1) I remember the very first time I fought the final boss in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I was really young -- 4 or 5 of age, and I had to put the game on pause after I beat Silver Sonic, to take a deep breath and treasure how far I made it into the game without losing all of my lives and having to start all over! (I just didn't know how to beat that boss).
2) When I played, "Shadow the Hedgehog."
Wow. I come back after several months, and my favorite topic I started is still going strong!
This has probiblly been mentioned here before, but the Metropolis level on Sonic 2 used to scare me alot. I would be running at full speed, almost going off-screen, when suddenly, in a blink of an eye, coming out of nowhere, those huge black weight things fell on me. Just seeing Sonic's die in a split-second scared me to death...it still does, too.
The FIRST time I fought the Biolizard solo with Shadow had me a bit creeped out. I don't know if it was the music or the giant dino thingy. But the fighting ground is just so small that I felt trapped. Not to mention I died a lot before I finally beat that thing. Ugh.
Took me a fair few months to beat the Biolizard, but now I can beat the thing with my eyes closed.
When I first got SOnic 2 (my first Sonic game, by the way), the Chemical Plant boss used to scare the bejeesus out of me. I know, I'm pitiful.
Chemical Plant Zone. I hated the bio-mack or whatever it was called, especially the bit where you had to move upwards with the moving staircases. >_>
When I was younger of course.
In the Metallic Madness Zone in Sonic CD, when I first saw those giant versions of Sonic 1's Bomb badniks, my reaction was: " Holy- RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!"
Seeing the HUGE LIEK XBOX Death Egg's face in Lava Reef Act 2 just before the boss.
In Stardust Speedway Act 2, with the Big Eggman thing in the background..
In Sonic 3D Blast, the HUEG Eggman statue in Panic Puppet act 2, basically...GIANT EGGMAN FACES SCARE ME!
EVERYTIME I FOUGHT EGGMAN IN SONIC 1 That "DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN dun i'll kick your ass! dun dun DUN DUN...i'll...kick....your....aaaasss...DUN DUN DUN.....kicking your ass...dun dun DUN DUN.....i'll....kick....your....aaaaaass.....dun dun dun....I'mgonnakickit....my foot up....your AAAAAAAAAAAASSS...." (Sung to the Sonic 1 Boss music) repeat as necessary.
Actually, I've never had much problem with Sonic 1's boss...
Still, I gotta wonder HOW I was able to create a topic with such staying power. I guess it's due to the subject matter.
Oh, and just because nobody's mentioned it in a while...
THE TAILS DOLL!!!!!!!!
THE HORROR!!!!!!!!
There was a time when the GG version of Sonic 2 was all I had (2 years before I finally got a Genesis). Two levels used to fear me with dread: The second acts of Aqua Lake and Scrambled Egg Zones.
there was a part where you had to manuver yourself through a spike maze as you float in a bubble in Aqua Lake and a maze of Pipes in Scrabled Egg. FEAR.
The ending of Sonic Adventure. MAN was that awesome for such an old game.
Perfect Chaos was SO FRIGGIN FREAKY!
And when Knuckles and Robotnik were lying there? I was all "WTF?! WUT HAPPENED?!"
awesome stuff.
When Sonic swore in Shadow. No, I'm not kidding.
When did he swear?
The opening cutscene in Shadow, when you see all the Sonic characters running forwards all in a big group, and it's like 'Here we go buddy here we go' and I thought.
"Man, i never thought Sonic and the gang could look so stupid until just then..."
It kinda reminded you of why you didn't like Sonic Heroes.
The first time Shadow fights the Biolizard. The thing seriously freaked me out when I first saw it. Eventhough its movements are incredibly limited, Shadow is pretty much trapped between its head and tail. At one point I believed it was trying to EAT Shadow! The big toothless flapping jaw was just...very..creepy.
And then there was another level. Gosh, I can't remember its name but it was a Knuckles one. The underwater mine level. I don't know for sure why this one creeped me out outside of the fact that I sometimes have drowning dreams.
Drowning Dreams? Ecco the Dolphin on your sig? I see a connection!
Well the 2D ecco games were easy enough. But the game for the DreamCast down right freaked me out at some parts.
You and Me both! I just hate the HUEG sea creatures...

When did he swear?
If you're playing Lethal Highway and you let the Black Arms ship get away, Sonic says, "D---, they got away, don't worry I'll catch up to them!" Or something to that effect anyway.
Damn's hardly a swear word, though.
Sonic said piss in the Japanese version. =O
Well, EXCUSE my virgin ears!
Sonic swears alot worse in episode 2 of Sonic X :3
Sonic is actually a fowl mouthed little rat, isn't he?

You should see Eggman in SegaSonic. =D
Sandopolis ghosts bring back memories. The most creepy thing I've seen would be the heads of the Lava Powerhouse boss of Genesis version of Spinball. I got the game for the Genesis shortly after it came out. One of my brothers, he was either 6 or 7, made a smart remark on the head and I had nightmares for the next week.
The spikes that come out of the wall in Sonic 1, Marble garden Zone. Reason being I have a morbid fear of injections and needles in general, so it was like seeing poor sonic being stabbed by a massive needle! *shudder* The same deal with the boss of Casinopolis, who drops down to shove a needle in your head. >_0
The same deal with the boss of Casinopolis, who drops down to shove a needle in your head.
I'm pretty sure you meant to say Spring Yard Zone, as there is no Casinopolis in Sonic 1.
