While I mostly played the new Sonic games yesterday, I went back to Sonic Rush when something VERY cool happened.

I

met

Yuji Naka.

I was freaking out deep inside, but I kept my composuer. He was talking to another Sega colleague, when I (politely as I could) interrupted him for a sec, shook his hand, said what a pleasure it was to meet him, told him what a big Sonic fan I was (showed him my imported Sonic X keychain like a dork), thanked him for his time and left. He thanked me and waved goodbye. The japanese are very big on politeness and formality so I kept it really short and sweet. That, and I'm very shy.

Now onto the games.

Shadow the Hedgehog:
Plays pretty much like the Sonic stages of Sonic Adventure, only Shadow can grab a gun from his fallen enemey and use it against others. He's teemed up with some alien race, and seems to have buddied up with Sonic. (Yea, that's beliveable.) The graphics on the X-Box and Gamecube are the best yet for a Sonic title. The PS2 however looked horrible and had a slow framerate. Those of you who played Sonic Heroes on PS2 last year, you know what you're in for.

Sonic Gems collection:
Finally! I get to play Sonic the fighters! Too bad it was on a timed demo. I tried alot of characters, and it seems to have a 30's cartoon look to it. Like the characters just stepped out of an old Mickey Mouse comic (Amy's face is white with no skin tones). This is probably due to the old design of the characters (back when Sonic looked like a spikey, blue Felix the Cat). At one point, I played as Sonic vs. Amy
It was biggest show of spousal abuse I'd ever seen! He was even slapping her across the face a few times. I felt guilty playing it. Fang is cool. He was using a gun long before Shadow. It looks like an old concave powder gun (how'd he get that to rapid fire?). I played some of Sonic C.D. but couldn't hear the music to confirm if it was the Japanese or american track. Did Amy chase after Sonic and glomp him in the original version? She does in this, and I thought she was only in the animations. I'm probably wrong.

P.S. I talked to the guy working on the compilation, and he confirmed to me that Sonic the Arcade is NOT in the game. However I asked about another Sonic Team game Knights. He said he could not confirm it BUT "there are alot of extra bonuses to unlock in the game". Take that for what you will.

Sonic Rush: Just like the other GBA Sonic games only on two screens at once, and with some cool 3-D tricks. Nuff said.

Yes, Amy does glomp Sonic in the original. You have to stay in Palmtree Panic Present at the end of act one, she'll glomp you, make the cutest sound in the universe and the only way to get her off is to jump.

I ran into J. Allard, about half the Xbox team, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer a couple months ago at Whistler. As it happens, everyone at Microsoft loves to ski there, which is why Win2K's development codename was Blackcomb (the mountain right next to Whistler), WinXP was called Whistler, and the next edition is called Longhorn, which is the name of a pub between the two mountains. I've also met Gabe Newell of Valve, and of course, the Penny Arcade guys.

We've never been to E3, despite the fact that we're fully eligible to go, because we're still in school. We're going to E3 next year, I can promise you that.

Yea. It was really brief. I didn't want to take any of his time and I was very shy. You're right. It is NiGHTS not knights. Sorry. I didn't go today to E3. I'm just too tired from the last two days, and I'm out of cash.

EXTRA PREVIEW FOR NEO REMINGTON, Crash tag team racing:
I played this one for the X-Box. Travlers Tales is really getting better at the Crash games now. This one include both racing and platform jumping action. The racing part is pretty cool. You have your own cart you can race and attack with, but you can also merge with the car ahead of you, and have a new attack mode. The two cars become one, and you take control of the weapons. Afterwards Crash exits the racing level, and jumps, spins and smashes crates. This time, the crates are frilled with gold coins that you can use to purchase cars, weapons and other things. You will also end up in a huge hub where all of the characters are hanging out. They will give you some fetch quests. The graphics are decent, but there's no real textures on the characters. Just color and shading. (I.E. Crash is orange, but has no fur texture. He comes off looking like a rubber toy.) Overall the game is really shaping up to be different and fun.

P.S. I AM a heterosexuall male, but I'll be danged if Nintendogs isn't the cutest game I've ever played in my life.

You met Naka-San and you didn't slap him for not allowing us to turn super in the regular stages? j/k Wow. Thats gotta be the most insane thing ever. I don't know what I would have done if I just saw Yuji, better yet had the chance to talk to him.

I really don't think Naka should be slapped at all, from the looks of things most of the stuff that's been going on in the Sonic series is all Iizuka's work.

While Naka just seems like a figurehead these days.

I still wouldn't slap Iizuka anyway, as that's just plain old disrespectful. :cuckoo

Yea well see, I know Iizuka is the real guy who's responsible I just said Naka because he was the man of discussion. But yea I wouldn't really slap him...maybe give him some dirty looks, but never slap.

Ironically, Iizuka did head the project for SA, which is arguably the best 3D Sonic game yet, since he was the director (it was his idea). However, his latest ideas seem to be lacking recently.

I'm quite curious as to how someone gets into E3. The site says

"E3 is a trade event and only professionals from the industry will be allowed to attend. Individuals who are not able to document their direct and current professional affiliation to the interactive entertainment industry are not qualified to attend E3."

I'm assuming this also means that the media can attend. I'm also curious to know if this covers students too, since in about a year I will be going to DMAC (link found here) which is pretty much a gaming college. I'm pretty sure it won't, but i'm still curious anyhow.

One need merely know a member of the press, or work in a store that sells video games, in order to be allowed into E3.

I got an invitation back when I worked for a mom and pop video rental store, which only proves they'll let any poor bastard in as long as they dealt with the industry. 😀

Curse my lack of sufficient funds! Plus, if I skipped work my boss would have kittens...

Since I'm working at a Photo studio, I guess this means i'll need a new job (curses the day he quit Toys 'R' Us).

And I'll also need a body-double so I can skip work without consequence.

Unless of course the body double decides it likes my life and tries to take over, leading to a huge climatic battle to the death that would come down to a loved one pointing a gun at both of us and deciding which one is the real me.

Still,it's E3, so it'll be worth it.

I was actually talking to an employee of GameStop about this. He said that pretty much anyone in the industry can go and threw out company names like Best Buy and Circuit City. This means I need to change my priorities and find an electronic supplier-type job. But yeah, from the sounds of it, you just need to be in some business that is in someway related to selling video games.

Then again I do know someone who works at Best Buy. Perhaps I could "borrow" his ticket next year... :idea

Like your friend is that good of a friend. :jester If I got a ticket I wouldn't even tell my friends. I'd call them while i'm down there: "Hey dude, guess where I am?" Where? "E3 baby!" "Huh" *dial-tone* :]

I'm sure after he translated your fanboy gibberings and requests/demands, he would roll up his sleeves, remove his hat, and then pull a Sonic Doll out of it.

Or maybe he'll accidentally pull a TAILS DOLL out of his hat, and it'll suck your soul and kill everyone at E3.

What? I have a Tails doll. It may not be as evil. but I have one. I acquired him almost ten years ago when the first Sonic and Tails dolls were released. Does that make me special?

This is the Tails Doll (click). He was custom made, stitched with evil, stuffed with hate. You probably only have a normal innocent Tails plushie. Tails Doll is from Sonic R.

The Tails Doll, is very much like Tigger (with two grrr's) in the fact that heeeeeee's the only one!

Alas, unlike Tigger (with two grrr's), he's not the only one, with millions of mass-produced replicas which sell like hotcakes and illegally make the parent company rich, and leave the family of the person who created the character starring at their shoes.

Even if that did happen. Mine is the first, the true, the original, the soul destroyer! NOT DARK, BUT CUTE! TRECHOUROUS AS THE SEA! ALL SHALL HUG HIM AND DESPAIR!

Here's an easy solution to your problem: just buy your own Sonic plushie online, through some online shop like ebay. They usually have plenty of rare Sonic merchandise if you look in the right spots.

I once went to a store filled with all kinds of video game merchandise, ranging from Sonic the Hedgehog to the Super Mario. It also had plenty of retro games, though currently the name escapes me at the moment. Last time I went there, I was able to snag a few Sonic plushies and other video game merchandise, I really need to go there again sometime, for more.

Oh, and while I don't have a Tails Doll plush, I do have a Tails doll plushie that I got from the same store I mentioned above (notice that the d in "doll" is lowercase). ^_^

besides mine would be a lot special if it came from Yuji naka:D it'll be the coolest and not even that tails doll would come close. or would you prefered to take an autograph from him?

although if there's a tails doll, dose that mean there's a metal sonic doll?

First off, yes. There is a Metal Sonic plushie, it was released during the Sonic Fighters days. Secondly, stop dreaming. Now!

Even if you had the fortune to bump into Naka at a gaming expo which you are not qualified to attend, without anyone else being there to tear his attention away, and he for some reason did have a classic Sonic plushie which he's been saving for over 8 years after they stopped making them, just incase a little kid pestered him, and he did have a pen, and understood the language you speak, do you REALLY think it'd be wise to give away merch, for free, without a prize draw or anything, in the middle of the most crowded gaming expo in the world. He'd get mobbed by selfish children like you, demanding their free classic, out of production Sonic signed.

Moral of the story: you are silly.

and he can give me a sonic doll through mail i just have to ask him that's all.
Its true I dont speak Japanese but half my relatives do, i'll just take one of my cousins, it's that simple.

and it isn't dreaming|I i saw a lot of fans take mugs and T-shirts from their ideals, this is no different. Its something to remember him by. Your just jealous you couldnt think of it.

You've obviously never viewed ebay clearly enough, if you've seen it at all. Ebay just doesn't sell those kinds of plushies. At times, you can usually find some of the more rare to find oldschool Sonic plushies.

This discussion on a whole is simply hilarious.

Well, I did meet a famous brazilian comic author once in his character's theme park in Rio de Janeiro. We talked to each other, made photos of us together and he asked my opinion about the theme park. Of course I said I liked it, which I really do. I even have a drawing of my two favourite chars by him saying "A hug, Erika!" ^^

THIS is why I only talked to him for a very short time. (That, and I'm not sure he knew english, he was just smiling and nodding.)

How did this go from E3 to a Sonic Doll. If I wanted a Sonic plush, I'd get one from a claw machine or something. I already have the ones that came out from denny's.

P.S. I got in because I work for Wal-Mart. Sporting goods no less. My job has nothing to do with games, except my neighboring department is electronics.

I kicking myself right now cuz I only thought there was one demo level on the Shadow game. Now I find out there was three levels. I still don't understand why Sonic is being so "buddy-buddy" with him now?

Perhaps they are putting aside their differences for the sake of a bigger cause: saving the world again. Similar to the end of SA2 when they teamed up to save the whole sha-bang.

Sonic never minds teaming up with Shadow. Sonic's cool with everyone (except Eggman) and never holds grudges.

Shadow would team up with Sonic (*cough*SA2ending*cough*)...but not for just anything.

he'd rather team up with Rouge. you also see in Sonic Battle that he doesn't mind being her partner...he's just not "buddy, buddy" with her.
