Rumors at the Sonic Stadium says that a new Sonic movie is in the works:

www.sonicstadium.org/board/index.php?showtopic=32097
EDIT: Due to some errors, a direct link won't show the thread, so i'll post the whole thing.
EDIT 2:Had trouble finding it. It appears that I wasn't even allowed to view it because I wasn't a member. =X Although, the url was still in my address bar, and I was able to find it there. (why it worked like that, I'm still not sure).

Quote: Stadium Message Board - blah blah, whatever...

As many of you might remember last year when someone reported that a 'SatAM movie had been greenlit' headed by a Richard Kuta, when in fact, nothing was in production, that was all very much true. However, whoever reported on the subject matter may have gotten a few lines crossed.
I have gotten to know Rich over the past year and he has made clear that he had never gotten anything greenlit. A script does exist, as does concept art and various other forms of materials that Richard has pitched to both SoA and SoJ over the course of this year, as well as several studios like NBC Universal, 20th Century Fox, Dreamworks, and perhaps most notably, DiC. The rumor that anything had been greenlit, Rich says, originated from when a paragraph was printed in a writer's magazine that showcased scripts that arre being submitted to be made into movies.
Recently, Rich has been appealing himself to Sega of Japan, trying to ease them on to the idea as pretty much anything of that caliber needs their approval. And he received a response last month:

Dear Mr. Kuta,

I regret to inform you that we are already in talks with a thrid party for a production of the Sonic feature. We often receive an interesting offer for the Sonic movies whether directly or through Sega of America.

Thank you for your mail.

As we are bound by the confidentiality clause in the agreement, we cannot reveal the name of our partner at this point.

all we can say is good luck to you for your future projects. We do not think we can discuss your Sonic project any further.

Thank you very much again for your understanding.

Best regards,

Yukari Takeuchi
SEGA OF JAPAN

At which point, Richard wrote back to Sega of Japan, rather concerned about the revelation.

Thanks again for your prompt reply in regards to Sonic. I realize its pretty much established that a Sonic movie is in the works; rendering my intentions useless and null and void. All things considered, I would very much like to contribute to something relating to the franchise. My movie idea may be a bust, but I was wondering if theres still other options to explore with the blue hedgehog. A new TV series, direct-DVD movies, or even a continuation of the 90s cartoon show that was left unconcluded. With all the dedication and passion I have for this franchise, there must be some beacon of hope that would allow one of the options to come to fruition. If not, I'll just leave it at that and depart from the scene completly. I respect everything that Sega has produced since the time I purchased a 16bit Genesis as a child and I'm confident that the movie you and the "third party" has planned will be fun and entertaining. I appreciate your clarification on this matter and I await your final response relating to my other possible ideas.

-Rich

To which, SoJ replied once more:

Dear Mr. Kuta,

As the current project is to cover a package of various media (i.e. TV, video, games, publishing, etc) and the entire project is controlled and managed by this partner, it is hard to tell you from my side how you could contribute to the project. The selection of the staffs and medias are largely dependent on the partner.

In any event, thank you very much for your understanding.

Best regards,

Yukari Takeuchi

To this he offers a picture of some of the movie proposal materials returned to him from SoJ via DHL delivery, seen attached below.
When asked if he would continue his efforts (which are largely backed by the folks at saturdaymorningsonic.com) Richard replied:

"Please try to get your facts straight. Its not or ever was a SatAM movie. its a SONIC movie that wouldve encompassed every element of the franchise. And yes, that is my script in the magazine."

This finding implies that a new surge of Sonic media is perhaps on the horizon?

After the event with SoJ, Richard came forward to SoA with his proposal and his inquiry about SoJ's 'third party.' And the following reply was spawned:

Thanks for the follow up. We at SEGA have just returned from our holiday vacation. And I believe Rob as the rest of us will need some time to settle in a bit. Im sure he will get in touch with you in due time. Thanks for your continued patience in this matter.

Best regards,

Cindy

Rich Apologies for the delay in responding to your message last year Im a bit short-handed at the moment and things are rather backed up. With regards to your inquiry about a Sonic the Hedgehog feature film, we are unfortunately unable to discuss any opportunities at the moment. This might change in a few months, but for the time being, I would ask that you put this on the back burner.

Thanks,

Rob
VP Business Development

When asked how he would respond to the matter, a team of supporters rallied behind him in his effort to create a movie that would unify the matters of Sonic, be they SatAM, X, the games series or otherwise, he responded 'that he would do as told, and put the project on the backburner...for a few months, when he would try again.'

Richard Kuta or not, there's some devolopment being made at Sega, it appears. Will this be the next epic step in Sonic's history? Or will it prove to be nothing more than just a failed project by a dedicated fan?

I hope I'm not just spreading rumor here, I'm trying to present what could possibly be something going on here. Forgive me if this is deemed un-presentable.

It's all in the post. Don't want to copy/paste the whole thing. But knowing Sonic Stadium, it's probably a complete shame.

Oh god. Not this again. Seriously can we just ignore him already and be done with it? This guy pops up every six months trumpeting about his supposed Sonic movie and he's nothing but an absolute pain. SonicStadium is even worse, they're so desperate to be the "#1 SONIC NEWZ SOURCE!!!111OMGZ" they'll report anything.

It's not on the actual Sonic News section of Stadium. If it were otherwise, it'd be there. That's just the messageboard. XD

If that's the case, then I'll post the whole thing myself. *edits first post*

It's odd, because I saw it before. But a direct link won't work. =/

I just think they are saying that just to make the guy go away.

"Of course we are working with people to see if its viable to make a Sonic movie!"

Besides, making a Sonic movie should last on Sega's mind at the moment.

Sorry to spoil the party, folks. But as I said in the Carny Isle link that GT posted, I think there's more chance of the entire Sonic franchise being rebooted as a double-act between Elise and Sera than Rich Kuta's hot air ever amounting to anything.

And yes, he did go on and on ad nauseum about being "pre-greenlit" until he realised that he'd have to find his own money, and then get IMDB to delete the evidence. I watched him do it...

Annoyingly, he's been banned from so many of the major Sonic fora for so long that people now seem to have a bad habit of believing him because we're dealing with a later generation of online fans, who haven't had the opportunity of watching him show himself up.

"Pre-greenlit"? Is that like pre-acknowledged and pre-said-yes-this-is-okay-to? That is like MY sonic movie!

Basically, it's "We don't see any reason why you might not be able to do this. Yet". What it isn't is the full throttle, Meg Ryan-esque "Yes! YES! YES!" that Rich picked it up and waved it around as.

And then Sega asked him where he'd get the several million dollars in production costs from. And he said:

"What?"

If I wasn't a Sonic fan I'd want him tgo do this just to marvel at a director worse than Uwe Boll.

However it does sound like he uncovered at least a proposal for some kind of Sonic media.

Where? I'd read the script.

I heard a rumour some weeks back of some sort of Sonic movie in the works. It was supposedly a press release talking about how excited people'd get about Sonic's new redesign for it - but since I couldn't find a copy of it anywhere else, or any other reference to the production company quoted, I decided to keep quiet until I knew if it was just a prank.

That was because the rumour came from Rich Kuta himself (IMDB account required to view) - on at least his second IMDB username that I'm aware of, and even the IMDB and Sega of America regulars're getting wise to him now.

The thread, under his new username, is him generally trying to pimp himself again, but also talking about some new movie or other named Electronic Neon Sonic Xtreme, which is allegedly being made by Toho but which only he has the "leaked" statement about. And even the SoA and IMDB boards're now getting bored with his behaviour.

One guy even tells him he needs professional help after some posts under his second username that, again, he's conveniently deleted.

Here (IMDB account required to view) is the original thread where he was mouthing under his first username, where the evidence may've gone, but the replies give you a good gist of what he's had removed.

It's 11 pages long and is hard to quote concisely, but is what remains of the evidence he tried to hide about shooting his mouth off over his "pre-greenlit" status.

That's the one!

There's some guy posting the Sonic Movie in Smashboards as well.

The problem is that he posted in a Mario section of the forums.

Hey there doggygurl20, welcome to the forums. As a mod here, I'd like to draw your attention to the rules, specifically the ones about pointless posts. Your latest post in this thread doesn't make any interesting or entertaining point about the subject at hand and thus can be considered spammy. Since you're new here and this is a first offence I'll let it slide and ask you to flesh out your posts more fully in future. After all, interesting posts are more fun both to write and to read.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy yourself here at the Mobius Forum. 🙂
