Here's the cream of the crop, however:
A demo of Sonic running around a floating platform, complete with working HUD, enemies and traps a plenty, and MANY rings - oh, and the full Stardust Speedway BF (US), too.
Tiara concept art, complete with a link to...
...footage of... a playable Tiara?!
Best stuff I've heard about X-Treme in a good while.
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE. Am geeking out over that Tiara gameplay footage.
~Neo
So much for the assumption that Tiara was to be another hedgehog. Interesting...
Intresting. All I can say is...HOLY CRAP THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME!
..........I didn't know Sonic X-Treme was meant to look like that. Reminds me of Sonic Labyrinth. Uber find Btw.
This makes it all the more sad that the game was canned and probably never be picked up again.
So, if Tiara wasn't meant to be a hedgehog, was she meant to be a squirrel or chipmunk?
A Manx kitten, according to Senn. Originally she was going to be a bandicoot, totally not inspired by Crash or anything, but he went with a Manx in the end.
So there you have it: a playable, spunky cat character. Like THAT hasn't been dragged up recently with a certain DS game, nope, definitely not.
That's footage from Sonic X-Treme? Were the graphics eventually supposed to get better during production.
Well for the time period it was supposed to come out, the graphics weren't that bad, Beardie99!
Was I the only one who thought Sally Acorn when I first saw the Tiara art?

I thought it was an animated gif he did to show what a model of what gameplay would be like to his executives.
Wow, Tiara does look as if she were inspired by Sally. Perhaps she was another tie in like Amy being renamed Sally Acorn in the manual for Sonic CD. I guess we'll never know.

You not the only one. From her fur color to her blues eyes the resembles is pretty noticible. The footage of her being playable is pretty cool.
Is this a new game coming out? I think Tiara looks very much like Sally. Maybe she's supposed to be like Sally, just in the game.
This game is actually old, it was scrapped in production and little was known about it.
Indeed. Very old, was intended to be released for the Saturn.
Apparently it gave people who watched it, migranes when they showed it at e3 (I think) So it was replaced by Sonic 3D: Blast. YAYNESS. ahem...
Um, no... the story DEFINITELY was that there was a lot of internal conflicts going on at Sega at the time and it wound up all on Senn there to finish it up, but he worked himself sick - literally - and they had to can the project altogether. Shame they couldn't continue work on it AFTER it missed deadline (although a PC version was attempted), but what can ya do?
A lot of journalists who watched Sonic X-treme said that they suffered headaches. Now they might be being sarcastic but still... Yeah I did read the whole story on the cult. I do feel sorry for the guy.
Was it ever said why Naka was so protective of the NiGHTS hardware?
Software is the non-physical aspect of computers, like code. Hardware is the physical aspect of computers - often used to store the software, but with tons of other hardware, too. NiGHTS was code. Therefore, NiGHTS was software, not hardware. The Saturn was hardware.
As for his protectiveness... ego?
EDIT: Music.
I knew about Sonic X-Treme, but I thought they might be making it again as a newer game or something.
No such chance. It's really too bad, but I'm glad Tiara never came to being. Sonic has enough trouble with Amy, and who knows what battles would come amoung fans if two possible females could be paired with Sonic!
Besides, she DOES look too much like Sally.
Good morning, Coonki! What's today's secret word?
*whirs, buzzes*
Today's secret word is: Demo! Ha ha! Now, you all remember what to do whenever anybody says the secret word right?
"Scream!"
That's right! For the rest of the day, whenever anybody says the secret word, scream real loud! Huh-huh! Ready? Let's try it!
Oh, and boss concept art. Shame I can't work it into my Pee Wee's Playhouse themed post here very well, but never mind.
Cowboy Curtis approves.
Whoa! That boss looks pretty sweet. He looks a lot like the Egg Golem from SA2. I wonder if this was the Egg Golem original design before they change it to his SA2 design?
Also I dont get Pew Wee reference.
I am iffy on all of this, the demos being shown do not look anything like the footage I have of Sonic X-treme when it was shown back years ago, I took a look at those and it just seems someone either went out of their way to make a hoax or something was up with the x-Treme project. Also those pictures of Tiara, those were done in MS-Paint so that whole thing I will be iffy on because there's no solid proof that those came directly from SEGA or Sonic Team. Anyone could use Paint to make a sprite. Either way, good find.
IT'S A HOAX! </harley>
Haven't used that in a while.
Remeber the time when this thing was done, before Photoshopping everthing was the norm. And also keep in mind that using MS Paint is quick and easy. You can recolor and save in a minute. That would've made it easy to show many possible color schemes for Tiara.
Sonic X-Treme Movie 35MB file download, will be up until 1-14-06.
Considering that is the video that I have of Sonic X-treme footage which is more on par with what the Saturn can do in terms of graphics I'm still going to consider thise a hoax. Those graphics are not that high of quality and this may be some proto-type SegaCD game possibly instead of Sonic X-treme. Of course it may be said that X-treme may have been planned for the SegaCD originally but was then pushed to the Saturn I do not know. But for now I will continue to say that this is a hoax.
You know, he pretty much elaborated all you'd need to know about them in here; they're somewhere around early prototypes of the game to flat-out mock-ups. They're no more hoaxes of the game than screenshots of the desert level of Sonic 2. Heck, claiming that they're hoaxes and using video footage from a later build seems to me like claiming screens featuring the Hydra enemy from Half-Life 2 are hoaxes just because they aren't in the game - that's not true, it's just an earlier build.
As for graphics quality, well, he made them on an Amiga, if that means anything.
All right, I can understand it being an earlier build after getting the whole story, that's why I stated it may have been for the SegaCD at first because the graphics just were not up to par with what I'm use to seeing for the Saturn. However, it still does not make sense why the game seemed so drastically changed between builds unless Sonic Team couldn't come up with a good story line.

What?
Man, I can't stop listening to the Guardian Spinx mp3...
Edit: This pic is going into my scrapbook :p
It looks like it is most likely a hoax. Cool pic of Tiara by the way.
Cool video. It just doesn't feel like a Sonic game though. No real sense of speed, and the whole going into the background 360 degrees levels look more confusing than fun. If it had been released, I think it would'nt be much better than Sonic 3-D blast, and that game stunk.
In your opinion. I actually quite liked 3D, even if it's very little like a Sonic game.
If 3D hadn't been a Sonic game, it may have been far better recieved than it had, but since Sonic himself and the Sonic series are pretty focused on speed, it fell flat. (I have the Genesis version of 3D, if that means anything.)
Did someone at Senntient make that Tiara picture or is it actually amoung the finds for the game?
It's interesting that there were going to be bean creatures called "Mips" inside the badniks which Sonic needed to gather in order to pass certain gates. That whole idea was done in Sonic 3D Blast with the Flickies. I wonder if these ideas were passed on to the minds who worked on Sonic 3D Blast.

I think Chris just took the picture from the concept art, added pineapples and coloured it in. I doubt it was used officially.
OMG Boobowski. Cool. And o.o at the Light Castle.
Wait... Knuckles was going to be in this game? o_O
(Info from the Cult.) Same with Tiara, Knuckles was planned to be a playable character. The idea had to be scraped early on becuase of time constraints.
Hmm, never knew that. Pretty cool, and thanks for answering ^_^
That's the ugliest Knuckles sprite I've ever seen and I've played Sonic Blast.
This topic has been neglected... we're missing enemies, the logo, MORE music, and then... this sucker.
Possibly more, too, so if you need a quick recap, either head back to the forum linked in the first post, or browse this archive.
The more I see, the more I'm glad this game never came to become a reality. Yet, it's amazing seeing all this amazing new stuff. I was floored to see Knuckles, that's for sure.
