Actually, when he fell into the lava, Knuckles jumped down after him and tried to save him but Yellow Zelkova wouldn't let him. THEN he sinks slowly into the lava.
Thanks for verifying what I thought happened. I noticed that Knux seemingly "disappeared" for a moment and wondered if an alteration of the Metal/Sonic scene from the OVA had been cut out.
Quote:
...........THAT'S WHAT'S UNDERNEATH THE ARMOR OF A METAREX!?
THAT...THAT...FURRY FURBY/KING DEDEDED HYBRID!? THAT'S IT!?
It looked quite a bit like the adult Flower People of whose race Cosmo belongs to.
Shadow: My God, there's a rocket in his pocket!
I agree with Koivo; I thought for sure they'd cut the part they left in (the OMG TREES ARE EATING ME scene) and leave in the part they cut (where Knuckles tries to save Yellow from lava death).
Spoilers (Select To Read): Also, watch out Turtle. You're dangerously close to being right. For anyone reading this, why do you think Yellow didn't go Godzilla on them? I mean heck, he's big enough already, a Zelkova dino would just obliterate the BT crew. (Yes I know I just answered my own question, but still.)
Sonic X, Episode 73 "Shadows Arrival" or "NOTHiNG CAN STOP THE SHADOW!"
The BT flies through space and...ya know what; I'm sick and tired of writing the "BT flies through space". It's what they always do, so I'm gonna use my creative imagination and mix it up. The BT flies through a rainbow-infested Beatles world via the Yellow Submarine, passing through the electric banana and giant luscious lips on hammers.
That said, Tails and Chris are alone in the bridge, enjoying a refreshing hippie-induced drug world and...oh, wait, I can stop now. After hours of working, Chris decides to hit the hay and asks Tails if he wants a break as well. Tails refuses, wanting to work on the security system, so the human teen stuck in a kid's body goes to his bunk for sleepy time. Unfortunately, he is unaware of a shadowy figure that whizzed passed him. Who is this mysterious shadowy figure? Why, it's...Shadow.
Shadow heads towards Cosmo's room. He could have entered any of the other girl's room, but he chose the one character that actually more or less has a steady boyfriend, way to go Shadow. Of course Cosmo manages to wake up (as does the others) when Tails gets note of Shadow's arrival, pushing the alarm button and all. Cosmo sees Shadow so close to her and gets freaked out. Before she can cry out "PERVERT!" the theme song plays.
Shadow basically calls Cosmo a traitor which confuzzles the poor plant girl. Chris manages to find the two. Shadow immediately goes on the offense, but luckily for the kid, he's saved by Sonic. Like any traditional Sonic clichs, we get the Sonic/Shadow fight. During this point, Tails runs towards Cosmo and asks what the dealio is going on. Cosmo explains Shadow called her something strange, as if she's never even heard the word "traitor" before in her life. She sounds like "traitor" is some foreign word, but considering her sugary sweet personality, that should come as little surprise.
Tails then drags Cosmo out when Sonic gets his butt kicked. The young fox initializes a shutdown, closing a door between him and Shadow. But he's like a friggin' tank, so he just barges through the door as such and pursues Tails and Cosmo. Thus the beginning of a long chase.
Knuckles, in another section of the airship, try to contact Sonic and Chris, but gets Cream instead. She explains both of them are gravely injured and currently being treated by Amy in the hospital. Damn, these people are fast. Amy barges into Knuckles' communication at this point and orders Knuckles to NOT go after Shadow and find Tails/Cosmo instead. THAT'S AN ORDER! The two argue briefly again. Awwwwwwwww, Amy cares SO much for Knuxie that she doesn't want him hurt. Ahh, the love blossoms. Only a matter of time.
Shadow managed to track down Tails and Cosmo via their heat from a device. Tails manages to however loose their track by deactivating something on the BT. It fails in any case since Shadow finds them and heads for them. They is screwed. Fortunately Knuckles comes out of nowhere and attacks Shadow. Another fight.
Tails and Cosmo escape via an air duct. There, Tails explains he will protect Cosmo no matter what. Cosmo is touched by his words and the audience all goes, "awwwwwwwww".
Shadow and Knuckles continues fighting. In the end, Shadow punctures one of the pipelines which unleash steam, making it a perfect time for Shadow to get away. Knuckles however reunite with Rouge.
Tails and Cosmo make it to the X-Tornado and hop aboard, but of course, like that annoying 8 year old kid next door that asks questions you can't answer, Shadow annoyingly comes up and demands Cosmo or else.
Meanwhile, Knuckles and Rouge get into a heated argument. Rouge tries the whole flirting method as well as reveals to Knuckles that Cosmo is a "real plant in more ways then one", but Knuckles merely demands Shadow and cries for her to contact him. Sorry Rouge, but Knuckles' secret desire for Amy is too strong. TOO STRONG I SAY! Rouge relents and contacts Shadow. Shadow however refuses to pick up as he is too busy heading towards the X-Tornado which transforms into the much fuglier X-Tornado Walker. Shadow destroys the jet in any case, causing Tails and Cosmo to leave and run yet again.
Tails (carrying Cosmo) now flies (as in with his tails, yes, his tails) up inside a high tower with Shadow rapidly gaining. He trips one of the alarms and lasers start shooting at him, but obviously Shadow whiz past them like a friggin' ninja. Tails reaches the top, pushes a button, and closes the doorway to prevent Shadow's entrance, but obviously he uses his attacks and breaks through AGAIN. My god, he's like the Blob. Nothing can stop the Blob!
Knuckles however comes to save the day by stopping Shadow's spin dash aimed towards Tails and Cosmo. Using his strength this side of Hercules, he chucks Shadow away, giving time for the young couple to run. The two however reach a dead end. Shadow again manages to catch up to them. Cosmo takes this time to question why Shadow wants her dead, but he ain't telling jack. Jerk.
Tails, pushing a random button seemingly out of nowhere closes the door between him/Cosmo and Shadow. Shadow bawks confidentially, saying he'll break the door again like he did with the million and one others. Tails however, shows of his confident when he activates the Sonic Power Cannon which Shadow is in. Shadow, unaware of his current position coincidentally spins dashes, thinking he'll free himself that way. In a matter of seconds, Shadow is blasted awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
Cream during this time takes the time to inform an injured Knuckles on Shadow's current condition. Holy Crap, news travels fast around Cream's ears. Rouge then comes towards Knuckles. The red echidna wants to chuck Rouge out in the same vein as Shadow, but she saves herself the trouble by explaining to Knuckles and the crew that they made a huge mistake. Cosmo is the real enemy, not Shadow. Confusion rings as does chaos when Tails and Cosmo return to the bridge and have a small romantic moment, only to be ruined by Shadow and his Chaos Control power via fake Chaos Emerald.
Tails pathetically fights Shadow, but loses. Shadow then heads towards Cosmo who shakes and fears like any damsel in distress. However Tails grabs Shadow by the leg in a last desperate attempt to stop him. Everybody is determined today, aren't they? Even more interesting is when the glass above them breaks and the heroes nearly get sucked out. Then some stinky stuff comes out and Dark Oak speaks to Cosmo, congratulating her on her mission. MORE confuzzlement comes out of her and she gets a flashback or something. She is running away from all the destruction, but was targeted by Oak where he put some sort of...ummm...trance on her? Whatever he did, it was enough that Cosmo acted as an unwillingly spy for the Metarex. DUH DU DUUUU!
REVIEW:
Ya know I'm getting pretty sick and tired of the producers making Shadow some super high powerful, DBZ level being. I mean, I thought as far as I'm concerned, he and Sonic were suppose to be equal, yet Shadow easily manages to handle the blue hedgehog's ass in little time. That said, at least they didn't truly overdid it as Knuckles managed to succumb a few victories over him, but they need to stop overpowering Shadow or I'm gonna probably hate him even more then I really should. I don't need some perfect God-like being on Shadow's ego as it is.
That said I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. The whole chase scene throughout the entire episode was intense and nerve cringing (in a good way). I enjoyed the small battles between Shadow and Knuckles and while I am upset over Shadow's defeat over Sonic in little time, it's nice to see more focus on other characters then Sonic. What was most shocking to me was Cosmo acting as a willing/unwillingly spy. This caught me a bit off surprised. I think I'd have been fully surprised if I didn't theorize on the last episode on the Metarex's true forms because I have a suspicion I know what they are, but still surprised nonetheless.
9/10
This episode is great!! Shadow's just about unstoppable, and Knuckles put up a better fight against him than Sonic! In fact Sonic's knocked out at the beggining of the show, and it's pretty much all Tails, Cosmo and Knuckles fighting against Shadow. Great twist at the end too. Cosmo's been an unknowing spy all along! This has been the darkest episode yet.
Again, really nice having an episode without Sonic and Chris hogging the spotlight.
Ah, women. They make Shadows of us all. Rouge's dialogue rocked in this episode! That redhead crack she made literally made me break out in laughter.
I kinda agree with you on the whole Supah-Strong Shadow thing, Neo. It's more annoying that they keep playing that song in the episode previews, though (the one that sounds like the Shaft song). *shudder*

Ditto with the too strong with own good Shadow. But don't be dissin that song.
Thanks for the summary since I spent my 3 hours sleeping today between 9-12, so I missed the show. I just wish it hadn't been such a good one. x_x

There, there, TR. We live in a country that's rich in reruns.
To me it was a very good epsiode, I mean to find out Cosmo has been an unwilly spy for the Meterax the whole time totally floored me, but I guess that would explain why the Meterax at times has always been a step ahead of Sonic's Crew and Eggman's (and why the epsiode's title was "A Cosmo Conspericery" to begin with).
And even though Shadow intentions were to harm Cosmo (for her being an unknown spy), he really didn't have much of a choice, as a matter of fact, you might even say Shadow and Rouge were trying to help Sonic, Tails and their crew in a way.
And Rogue really did have some good lines, epsically the "jealsouy" one, but you might also notices when Rouge explains to Knuckles that Cosmo is the real enemy and not Shadow, he gives the "huh" and then gowls (softly and deeply), because let's not forget at the start of all this whole fight againest the Metreax, when Cosmo first arrives, Knuckles admits to not trusting her. (like he knew then she was hiding something, even if she didn't know it yet)
But overall it was good epsiode and the next ones are going to be just as good (despite the changes that may be made, remember this is "network television", not "syndcated televison" where things would be 50% better)
I give it 10/10 and I know in next week's epsiode, their'll find a way to help Cosmo.
Till then, God Bless.
This was pretty good in terms of most or all the chase included. As for the whole Sonic losing easy, you have to remember that he took the full force of the hit for Chris. With only moments to act, he really couldn't avoid it altogether. With that said, I think him getting back up and continuing to hold off Shadow really showed how determined he was. I'm certain if Chris had been struck, Sonic would have soundly whooped Shadow as we all know how powerful Sonic is when he's mad. Of course, if he had we wouldn't have the nifty chase scene through the BT. So, in this case, Sonic going down for the count early was used to good effect.
All in all, a well done episode. There was only a few times, I felt Shadow's voice sounded a little too like Sonic, mostly when he was yelling at Knuckles or Tails.

This was made pretty obvious in the French version. I didn't catch this one in English, but in French Shadow was telling Tails to get out of the way so he didn't have to kill two, and when he did corner Cosmo he told her to close her eyes. When she asked why he was after her, he replied "It's better for you to die not knowing." I suppose though they didn't want to include all the blatant death-talk. =P

Yeah, I noticed that too. If there is a fourth(fifth whatever) season, I hope that, with Jason's recent works in ShtH and S Riders, that problem will disappear as well as make the other characters sound better.
Sonic X, Episode 74, "The Lost Planet" or "Cosmo goes all emo."
Chris hopes out of his bed in his bigger then normal PJs and heads over to the main bridge where he sees all the furries staring out in the same direction like they're in the ultimate staring contest. Chris, excited joins in the staring contest, but only sees dead trees and dead everything. So...I guess he wins?
Cut to Tails examining an unconscious Cosmo. Chris thinks he should take a rest though. Oh, Chris, if there's one thing I learned from this show is that people are awfully damn persistence to help out the ones they love; it's all kinds of noble. Meanwhile, Sonic is heading out like he usually does in the most random and inappropriate time. Amy thinks HE needs rest, but Sonic heads out regardless. This time, the pink hedgehog gets off her lazy butt and starts to go after him only to be met with Rouge.
Chris helps Tails with Cosmo and manages to find a small something inside her brain which the Metarex have been using as their spy tool, seeing and hearing things from Cosmo. They could remove it, but at the risk of Cosmo never being the same again. Knuckles agrees with Chris' idea (obviously) while Tails refuses, saying there must be another way (obviously). Both human boy and Mr. Gullible work hard to get Tails to see it there way, unaware Cosmo has just woken up and listened to the whole thing. She gets all teary.
Meanwhile, Amy is riding on her pink mobile with Rouge as a passenger. She wants answers from Rouge posthaste or she's going overboard. Rouge explains Cosmo is a spy, pure and simple, and then tells Amy to keep an eye on the road, especially when Amy almost gets smacked into a large tree. DAMN IT, AMY! I'm revoking your pilot license POSTHASTE! The two land somewhere and eye a tall metal structure. They soon see a hologram of one of Cosmo's species. Rouge makes contact with Knuckles in her usual flirty manner while Knuckles berates her as par usual. Geez, the two are like a broken record. Rouge then hands the communication to Amy. Amy explains to Knuckles that they are in Cosmo and Metarex's home planet Green Gate (and sweet talks to him when Rouge isn't listening).
Meanwhile, Sonic spots Shadow in the middle of the dead forest and basically talks of his recent fling of trying to off Cosmo. Shadow explains if fighting is his thing, he'll fight. Sonic refuses and continues to smile/grin like he always does.
The hologram starts to speak and tells of how they came to be the way they are. Basically some time ago, a war broke out. The males mainly fought back, mostly by transforming into giant Godzilla T-Rex thingies and laying as much havoc as possible. Wow, that almost makes up for the fact that they look like giant fluffy alien penguins. With that said, the one known as Landor dies during his transformation and his wife grieves in sadness. Whoa, hold up!? HE'S allowed to DIE on screen yet Molly STILL can't?! Hell, even his wife said he perished! What the fudge, 4kids? How long do you wish to continue to confuzzle me?
Any who, the next scene is a meeting between Cosmo's species. The leader seems to be the one known as Earthia. She tells everyone that they need to leave the planet and seek peace elsewhere, her blessed amulet guiding the way. Lucas however refuses and stays to fight, hoping to work on more of their transformation.
As the ship starts to get packed, one of the females of Cosmo's species tells Earthia of the trees which are slowly dying. She finds out why when she sees Lucas.
He uses the tall structure machine (the one Amy and Rouge saw) to enhance the transformation. It is their Planet Egg and Lucas plans to utilize it and go all universe-conquering on folks. Earthia ain't pleased on him spamming the Planet Egg's powers.
So the guys who could transform does battle again, some dying and all andwait...is that, is that BLOOD!? Do I see an ACTUAL streak of blood flowing off one of the transformed guys' mouth!? Did 4kids ACTUALLY showed blood!? I mean, first they acknowledged that some dude died and now BLOOD!? *head a splode*
ZOMG! THIS IS THE BEST 4KIDS DUB EVER.
That said, Earthia (in space inside a vehicle) orders her crew to destroy the planet, so that darkness will not follow their kind. But Lucas and a few of his team survived. He became Dark Oak and the others...well, became robots with leave names. Ya know, Black Narcissus, Green Pale Bay Leaf, Red Pine, and Yellow Zelkova AKA Macho Man. Amy and Rouge are in total shock after listening to all this. Sonic's been listening as well from afar and in his confident exterior, knows he's gotta stop Dark Oak, of course.
Meanwhile, Cream speaks with Cosmo who is in her hospital bed. She offers sugar cookies to which Cosmo declines. She goes all emo and tells Cream to leave her alone, saying she is undeserving of such friends. Cream retaliates back, but Cosmo refuses to say anymore and covers herself with her blanket. The little bunny and her chao leave reluctantly. Cosmo then complains she can still hear "them" (the Metarex).
Sonic speaks with Chris who is busy translating the rest of the downloaded content that Tails and Cosmo got in a WAAAAAAAAAAY earlier episode. Chris manages to translate it enough to see the Metarex's goals: to plantitize every planet and rid of all living things. OH-NOES. IT'S LIKE THE TIME CAPTAIN CRUNCH TRIED TO CRUNCHITIZE EVERYTHING. They're the ultimate gardeners! Chris then explains how both Cosmo and Tails feels (cut scene shows Tails on his bed, eyeing a photo of his friends and Cosmo in the bathroom, washing away her tears).
Cosmo decides to leave at this point and heads for the airship pod. Tails stops her, but Cosmo relents, saying she's gonna beat Dark Oak on her own. Tails refuses to let herself be killed. Cosmo is so upset and confused on why he's still being all nice despite what she (unwillingly) did. "The Metarex may have your eyes and ears, but they can never have your heart." Truer words were never spoken, Tails. The other crew all decides to help out Cosmo, including Knuckles and Rouge.
Shadow however HAS to be Mr. Center of the universe and be all emo "I don't wanna be with the others, they is all fools." Yes, I know you're doing good in your eyes, Shadow, but you REALLY are Eggman's lap dog. Chris sees that and tells Shadow to join them instead, but Shadow goes all angst and refuses. Pah, and I had respect for you like 5 episodes ago, man. The two are interrupted when Bokkun arrives, telling Shadow that Eggman has been captured.
Cut to a jail cell where Eggman's robot stooges complain to Pale Bay Leaf on their capture. Eggman surprisingly remains quiet and almost catatonic-like in stance. Eerie.
Another cut scene to Dark Oak who reveals Earthia as Cosmo's mom and the seven Chaos Emeralds which he'll use to green up everything everywhere. OH-NOES.
REVIEW:
Well, my theory was right. Them Metarex really are part of Cosmo's species. Interesting look at 'em, too. With the females being all more plant, lily-like while the males look like alien DeDeDes (wait, does DeDeDe himself count as an alien?). That said this episode was pretty damn good. It's got the whole backstory of why this whole thing happened in the first place, it's got Cosmo struggling through her ordeal (even if she did go all emo a bit though I don't blame her), yet in the end, being grateful that her friends chose to stick with her regardless, and we lastly get Dark Oak and his final plans ready for action. In short, this episode is probably the one triggering all the final events that are about to take place in later episodes and it does a tremendous job. Nice plot, great character development, nice animation (4kids left in blood AND death, holy shizzles!), nice watch. Now if only Shadow would stop being so damn emo.
10/10
Wait, what? One of the dinos went bleedy?! *victory dance*
Quote:
Whoa, hold up!? HE'S allowed to DIE on screen yet Molly STILL can't?! Hell, even his wife said he perished!
I think the reason he could die is because he was a Godzilla, while Molly was a human. Humans can't die*, but dinos can. But still! Death on camera!
* Thank you, children's programming, for curing every deadly disease known to man. 9_9
Yikes, my French must be awful! I thought the amulets Earthia presented were supposed to prolongue her people's lifespan, at the risk of nullifying their evolution/transformation capabilities.
Quote:

That's what I got from the French ver, too. Their transformations would mean an end to their current lives (especially in the case of the males, who'd die soon after going Godzilla), and the amulet things prevented them from being able to do so.
When did the Mets get the other Emeralds? Last I remember Sonic and crew had at least one or two of them or did they lose those in that one episode where they were chasing Eggman?
Quote:

Hah, so true ^_^
IT was a good epsiode, probably the most dramatic and funnest epsiode.
I mean we discoved the metrax are the war males of Cosmo people.
We also get to see Rouge and Amy team up (Which I personally liked).
Rouge's comment on Knuckles "Knuckle Sandwich" was hilaiours.
Overall a very good epsiode, and I think 4kids, is getting the idea that streams of blood or small blood scatches aren't that bad, and that if the going to dub, dub and keep centain lines and scences in.
overall Very Good! 100/100
(Best part, Rouge is a part of Sonic's Crew now! YAY!!)
Wait, I'm confused.
If all the females of an entire alien race just scootered off somewhere, why aren't they all dead, male and female?
Do they just undergo Mitosis or something for reproduction?
Mitosis? Of course not.
They reproduce with a cloud of spores.
Seriously though, it doesn't seem as if Cosmo's ship was in space for a long time, just enough for her to... appear... and get a little older. If I recall, the woman whose husband died was still there when the Metarex blew up the ship, looking none the worse for wear.
Quote:
Eh? Pretty sure what Chris was downloading was that file Rouge passed on to Knuckles last ep.
I didn't hear THAT in the dub as far as I'm concerned.
I really liked this episode (too bad I missed the last episode). It was rather interesting and I really can't wait to see how 4Kids will do "Cosmo's Work" now. ::crosses fingers::
The episode mentioned both the file Knux got from Rouge and the Tails/Cosmo file. Chris was cross-referencing the new file (Rouge's) with the old (Tails/Cosmo).
Ahhh, I must've misheard, thanks TR.
Sonic X, Episode 75 "The Day of Plantations" or "Big dramatic episode starting doom!"
A "Last Time on Sonic X" occurs with the typical annoying announcer voice. Man, makes you wanna start polishing your gun...
That said, Eggman contacts the heroes via Bokkun's TV from his prison cell where he gives Sonic and the other furries (plus one human) locations to where the Metarex is headed. He then recites some prophecy or some crap like that where "every thousand years, night and day will come together". No one has any durn clue what it means since that's how the media works when it comes to prophecies; it's recited in the most blatant mysterious way as possible causing the heroes to solve it at the last minute while they're most likely in peril. Oh, and Bokkun's TV blows up. We haven't had that in a while.
So, Dark Oak and his cronies get his plan in gear to start the forestation while our heroes are lead by Tails to a virtually empty room. Knuckles complain there are no controls to maneuver the ship until Tails pushes a button on his fancy smansy Power Rangers wrist watch. KAZAM! Controls pop out from the walls and floors. Tis' be a secret bridge Tails built incase the first one blew up or some other stuff that'd make it useless. So the BT flies off, Shadow watching from down below. He takes his leave until Vector stops him.
The BT heads for the Metarex Fleet heading their way. Oak sends Pale Leaf and Black Narcissus to throw themselves to death with the Sonic folks. Tails orders the heroes to do battle; so Chris, Amy, and Cream ride their respective jets with Sonic tagging along (and using the plot device ring, which isn't so plot device since he still got his ass kicked). Lasers don't help either. It's like the Metarex are going all out...and considering we're near the end of the series, it's no surprise. Black Narcissus managed to land on the BT, so Rouge and Knuckles heads over and fights with the batgirl breaking his mirror staff. Narcissus is pissed. Oh, calm down, Blacky, your mug alone would have broken that mirror anyways. Just accept it. Knuckles then retaliate with the shovel claw and sucks. Sonic and the others on the jets continue their battle with Pale Leaf.
Meanwhile, the Chaotix managed to enter in the same area where Sonic and pals are. Shadow then grabs the controls and crash lands the Chaotix's ship inside one of the Metarex's ship. The Chaotix asks what the big deal is and Shadow simply replies he's gonna kick Dark Oak's shiny metal ass. The Chaotix end up following him to help, and the four basically start fighting lackey Metarex soldiers on their way to Oak's main headquarter.
The loud fighting and explosions coming from the four is enough for Eggman to motivate himself to contact Bokkun. A rescue signal, it is. Chris volunteers to free Eggman, so Sonic jumps ship from Chris' to Amy's who claims their "invincible love" will stop the Metarex. Oh, Amy, just give it up. There's a perfectly good red echidna waiting for you back at the BT, ya know. Any who, Chris heads to Eggman's prison cell and is about to blast it wide open, but Eggy lets his lackeys show off their stuff when the two form together to create a bazooka. Wait, you mean to tell me they could have escaped at any given time? Geez, what a pointless thing to call for a rescue beacon...but I suppose they needed a ride back since their own ship is nowhere to be found in this episode at all. After Eggman breaks free, he compliments Chris and overloads the ship they're in.
Meanwhile, Knuckles and Rouge does more battle. He spin throws Rouge (after she makes her usual flirt) while Oak orders all the hull in the ship where Chris, Shadow, Eggman and his goons, and the Chaotix are in. One by one, the ship starts to fall apart, so they haul ass and fly away to safety. They discover a giant tree once the entire ship falls to pieces. Then before anyone could know what happens, the 1,000 event starts and two glowly blue things surround Dark Oak and his Metarex friends. Turns out to be a pretty big Planet Egg. Oh joy.
With the Chaos Emerald as light and the giant, round planet shaped Planet Egg as water, the tree starts to spread its root and forestation has begun. Unfortunately this is messing up with the galaxy, so the heroes obviously have to stop 'em or all is doooooooooooooooomed! The Metarex then start to lose their armor as the roots engulf them, ultimately turning them into giant serpents or something.
Tails tries launching missiles, but that about sucks. Purple dragon serpent head (Oak) commences his own attack and destroys the BT as he pursues the Master Emerald. Then he tells Sonic to join or die (which is weird since he wants to do away with animals). Sonic refuses and plans to fight as usual. Amy begs him not to her, but he casts her away to safety and fights anyways. The Metarex however sends water from the roots Sonic was standing on, sending him down deep inside the watery Planet Egg where he'll probably drown or something if no one does nothing. OH-NOES.
REVIEW:
Ahh, so its come down to this. We got some 3 episodes left before Sonic X ends for good (as far as I'm concerned). That said the episode has to lead off with a bang. Well, they're doing pretty good at the moment. Got the whole big crisis thing going on, and the hero in peril to make for a nice cliffhanger, even though it's painfully obvious Sonic will survive in the end. That said, it's a nice, evenly paced episode that doesn't overcomplicated and just gets straight to the point. Nothing more, nothing less. Oh, and that 4Kids music that usually plays during battles are so damn annoying sometimes, only because theyre so loudly and dramatically done. Too dramatic for it's own good, I'd say.
8/10
WOW!! I only have two words...KING GHIDORAAAAAAHHH!!!
It's like Sonic:Final Wars. All they need is Godzilla, Monster X, Mothra and Don Frye to round it off.
Sorry, most of you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm actually a bigger Godzilla fan than a Sonic fan. But just slightly.
Overall great action-packed episode.
BTW when did the VA for Bokkun change? At least he sounds more boy-ish than girl-ish now.
One of the best to date.
A lot more action-packed and dramatic then I thought it would be, but it also has it humor moments, like when Shadow ask on the droids where's Dark oak, and then sees more droids behind me, he says "never mind" and tosses the droid to the background causing it to explode. or when Knuckles tells Rouge to take his hand so they could do the spin throw, she says "my what an odd time to suddenly get romantic".
It's things like that make this one of the best to date.
Don't you all agree. ^_^
Actually, you can see Eggman's ship. It's at the very bottom of the Metarix ship. And Sonic doesn't just cast Amy aside; after he declares that he won't stop fighting, he "pleads" (kinda rushed) for them not to hurt Amy, tossing her out of range of their attack.
Quote:
And Sonic doesn't just cast Amy aside; after he declares that he won't stop fighting, he "pleads" (kinda rushed) for them not to hurt Amy, tossing her out of range of their attack.
I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure the "casting away Amy" was just my usual joke/sarcasm.
Sonic X, Episode 76 "Concerns for Sonic" or "Big Stuff Happens and FF6 reference for the win."
Getting past our usual "Last Time on Sonic X" and the theme song, the first scene showcases Amy floating in space till Rouge catches her. Amy struggles to break free to save Sonic. Rouge tries to calm her down and flies her to Cream's ship. Cream is just as upset and worried for Sonic as well.
In the bridge inside the BT, Tails and Cosmo are joined up by Chris and Knuckles. All four ain't completely sure what to do. Cosmo however reassures everyone that Sonic will be fine. She then explains her gem doohickey located in her chest can predict bits of the future or some other crap like that. Wow, Cosmo, we REALLY could have used that some 20+ episodes ago. Apparently, the producers felt NOW was a good enough time to make some use on that damn gem, in the third to last episode. What a complete throwaway. Any who, with what Cosmo said, Knuckles laments Sonic will get out anyways. Then their happiness is distorted when Eggman's ship: The Egg Crimson crashes and more or less "merges" with the BT. I am suing the colorist. The ship is not crimson; it's not crimson at all! It's purple!
Inside the ship, the Chaotix rejoins Amy, Rouge, and Cream. They ultimately explain that Eggman wants to join up with 'em, much to their dismay. Eggman manages to talk them into joining up regardless and commences shooting missiles at the Three Shoguns...Three Serpents. No, I like Three Shoguns better. FF6 reference for the win. Ha. As for Shadow, he just watches.
Inside the BT, Cosmo hears her mother's voice telling her of her destiny blah blah guidance blah blah gem on her chest glows. The others in the meantime try to find a weak spot until Knuckles thinks of a plan to use the Master Emerald's power to its fullest. Amy compliments him which is far improved from her usual insults (flirt) to him. Now, she's in step two of their hidden confession for her love for Knuckles. The others are mixed on the decision, wondering if it'll work, even to the point where Knuckles (complete with goofy face) has doubts. Eggman reassures him and says his Egg Crimson's powers can be used as back up.
So while the scientist-type guys work on the doodads of the Sonic Power Cannon and the likes, the Chaotix, Shadow, the girls (two of them riding Eggman's small ships), and Bokkun and Eggy's lackeys (who merely serve as background fighters shooting missiles) all attack the three Shogun Serpents. Shogun Serpents...has a nice ring to it. Cosmo meanwhile watches all this, upset over her own species violence when they used to be so peaceful. Hey, you guys brought it on yourself, you got nothing but yourself to blame. Well, the male species anyways. Seems like macho-ness isn't far off from Yellow Zelkova. Tails comforts her by holding her hand, Cosmo returning the affection by holding his. Cute.
In the Egg Crimson (EC) bridge, Chris has just got done hooking up the ME to his ship. Eggman then asks Chris how he came into Sonics world.
CHRIS: Oh, I used the ME as a means to teleport myself here. Behold my awesome science skills and only at 18.
EGGY: Oh, well, bad news kid, you're only 12 because your other 6 years has been held inside the ME in particles or some science talk like that. So if we use the ME's full power as we're about to do, there's a chance you won't be going home for years. To further add to the whole "you're screwed" concept, if you ever do return home, your molecular structure will more then likely mess you up. Sucks to be you, kid.
CHRIS: WHAT!? Then I may never see my parents, friends blah blah blah Helen, the girl I ended up with since I can't have Sonic? Oh well, time to screw my chances and save the world.
BOKKUN AND LACKEYS: ZOMG!11!! CHrIS. U R soooooooooo BrRave! We LUV u!!111
CHRIS: I know. My current personality more then makes up for my craptacular performance in the first 52 episodes of Sonic X.
As he pushes the button to activate the cannon, Knuckles does his usual Tikal chant. The ME seems to think this is too much as it starts to crack, so Knuckles encourages the giant rock like it's his kid at a baseball game or something. Shadow further initiates his plans by letting Dark Oak entangle him with vines that came out of his neck. Shadow goes over the tower of the EC and tilts the ship, positioning the cannon straight at them.
The cannon launches, decapitating Pale Bay leaf and Black Narcissus. OUCHIES. The rest of the blast hits the tree trunk where the Planet Egg and Dark Oak are. A bright light engulfs the entire screen. Kids, proceed to wear your sunglasses for the next 5 seconds.
Cut scene to Sonic who finds himself floating, eyeing thousands of pine trees down below. He gently floats down and maneuvers his way past the trees while Oak basically eggs him on (no pun intended) and tells him animals suck and the world is doomed and other bad guy speeches. None of these phase Sonic (obviously), so he runs some more.
The power cannon left a moderate size hole in the trunk just below Dark Oak. The ME is cracked to pieces, but Knuckles' plan seemed to work. Everyone cheers in happiness except party pooper Cosmo who keeps her concerned face on. Amy in the meantime drives her ship to save Sonic. It's entangled by the vines, so she ejects out (get your mind outta the gutter) and ends up inside the Planet Egg, more specifically she's in water where Sonic currently is. Sonic saves her and the two hold hands and all that jazz that probably made some 12 year old Sonic/Amy fan squeal in eternal happiness. The two hedgehogs are furthered saved by a giant bubble orb surrounding them and basically fishing them out of the Planet Egg. The bubble pops once they're out and Chris gives them a ride in the nicer, slick X-Tornado.
Happiness is interrupted yet again (am I sensing a pattern?) when water starts to engulf Dark Oak. Dark Oak basically merged with the ME's Chaos powers and is about to start his plan. OH-NOES. Meanwhile, Cosmo's red gem on her chest starts to glow...oh, and the Planet Egg turns into some giant seed or something.
REVIEW:
Ya know, it dawn on me that I haven't seen Sonic until like the last 7 minutes of this episode. Around like halfway to Sonic X, I wondered if this plot could drag on any further then it really should have. I was happy to know that wasn't the case. The plot moved steadily and solidly enough that I didn't have to cry out, "GET ON WITH IT". Many shows tend to drag on more then it should (*coughJohtoseasonofPokemoncough*), so this was a nice change of pace. Pretty much every character got their chances to shine in their field of battle, dialogue, or whatever, instead of being useless lumps. That said, this episode has got the whole, "OMG! Final battle about to come" or something like that and I look forward to it. Too bad the animation on this episode was eh. I swear one scene Tails was the SAME height as Knuckles. Not to mention I was a bit irked Cosmo's red gem took ALL the way until the third to last episode to show SOME sign of importance. I generally like it when important objects are emphasized how important they are from the beginning, whether it's blatantly told or slowly reveals itself. I really don't like it when things are thrown at me at the last minutes. Maybe it's just how I view stories, but I see that as a sense of haste.

Yo. (Though I'm eighteen.) Man, everything's coming together. The planet's turned into a walnut and everything. *antici--pation* I can't wait to see how they'll translate the last two episodes, and specifically next week's ep. And Chris really has gotten better.
As for Cosmo's gem thingy, that's the Law of Inverse Practicality in action. (Cliche #167.) "Any item that you can acquire will have some sort of purpose. ... The earlier you get the item, the later ... it will be used."
*shutting up now*
Very good epsiode, did anyone see the heads get blow off, but overall very good epsiode, dark yes, but good overall.
Can't wait till next week ^_^
GRRRRRRR!! I set my DVDR to record the show while I am at work, and the family decided to watch Satelite while I was recording on regular T.V. meaning the image came out extremly fuzzy, and I could barely make things out.
I have to agree that that's the most romantic Sonic's gotten with Amy so far. They were holding hands for about the last five minutes of the show. I'm going to have to find some other means to record the show, or admit that I want to tape a kids cartoon at age 35 to the rest of my family.
Forget what I said about Sonic and Amy. Although they were holding hands in two scenes my picture was so fuzzy I didn't see that Sonic had his arms crossed when he got on the wing of the ship.
Today's episode was surprisingly faithful to the original, although from what I remember it seems like it was severely muted emotionally.
Now, Episode 77 just aired and I must declare that it is JUST AS I FEARED IT WOULD BE! I am SO angry! 4kids has cut out all of the good stuff in the end! Since it has now aired, I assume it's now okay to say what really happens so you know what you really missed.
The original got me crying, and still does whenever I go and watch it, it did this morning when watched it to remember what was going on that way I'd remember everything of it.
Firstly, the "Self-destruct" device in Eggman's device was said to be fake and here Eggman just says it's just not a good enough plan. Then, when time comes to fire the sonic canon, Tails asked the others to leave him alone. Here, they are not even seen going to the other room. Sure, Tails does tell Cosmo she means a lot to him, but he said more than that in the original! He actually said he loved her! And finally, the whole ending was DELETED! After the Sonic Canon was shot, Tails should have had a talk with Cosmo on a white screen where they tell their feelings for each other and THAT'S when they said goodbye to each other! In today's airings, Tails said goodbye right before shooting... God I am so mad... It was just as horribly edited as I feared it would be.
I knew something was wrong. I was told that this episode was suppose to be tear jerking, from the bgm to the dialogue and I just found myself staring at the screen like "...That's it? Sailor Moon had better tear jerkers than this..."
I'm DYING to see the real episode, as I've heard it's really good.
Is it on dvd/sell in Japan yet?
Despite all the changes, you have to remember that this show was "edited down" for children. CHIIIILDREEEEEEEN. You can't have a character the kids are emotionally attached to just die, especially if the character's best friend has to kill them. That'd be... well. Yeah.
I agree with Dirk. It seemed to me that they left Cosmo's survival a bit ambiguous. She kinda did, but kinda didn't. I was still "aww"-ing over Tails' little speech at the end, despite how it was a bunch of flashbacks instead of the White Room of Death. So I don't think it was horrible, but it's down to personal taste in the end. *le shrug*
Sorry for the bit of wait. I was recording a Danny Phantom episode.
Sonic X, Episode 77, Cosmos Work, or "The second to last episode and the obvious predictability!"
After another annoying wreck through the "Last Time on Sonic X" thing and theme song, we cut to the BTerr...flashback of when Cosmo was born (very adorable). Earthia (now turned into that giant tree seen in another Cosmo flashback in an earlier episode) comments Cosmo is pretty much the last one to be born cuz' she's tired and all her seeds have pretty much died out...get your mind out of the gutter. End Flashback and we cut to present day Cosmo next to Tails. Other furries/humans/robots watch the giant Planet Egg seed thingamabob. Shadow quietly, but quickly goes over to said seed. Chris' sleek X Tornado jet plane (with Sonic and Amy on board) head on over to the seed as well, but that giant nut has a defense mechanism as it shoots out violet oozes that sends all four rearing back.
At this point, the Chaotix randomly appears in the BT holding all the Chaos Emeralds, now drained of their powers. Obviously, Knuckles is the one to worry over them the most. Producers however opt not to add in the special deleted scene of him cradling the emeralds and trying to bottle feed 'em back to health. Eggman comes in via communications and tells the furries that combining his airship's powers with that of the BT might be enough to restore the Chaos Emeralds back. Again, another interruption occurs when the giant seed sends out violet shockwaves that reaches all the other planets where the Metarex previously have placed fake chaos emeralds to give them the power to make plant life grow. Ahh, so that's the purpose of those fakeoids.
Plant life grows on the BT and EC as well while the humans and animals literally have their life sucked out of them to further the forestation. Cosmo, obviously unaffected, grabs the Chaos Emeralds and makes her way out. Climbing up the giant tree roots to the EC to power up the mystical gems, Dark Oak berates her and sends a giant root to snatch her up. She looses the emeralds, dropping and...well, floating. Well, it is space. Considering Sonic and pals define all logics of space with their apparent ability to breathe space air AND walk around without risk of floating, at least SOMETHING is subjecting to space law. That said the Planet Egg gets all white and glow-y and the Chaos Emeralds glow. Oh, and the animals/humans stopped getting their energies sucked off of them.
The emeralds have responded to the giant seed's life force and thus turned all powerful again. Shadow briefly remembers Molly (which still would have a better emotional impact if she had died like she originally did) before he and Sonic turns into...CHUCK NORRISI mean Super Sonic and Super Shadow.
The two Supers flies towards the seed and basically split it in half. Big, white light and explosions occur, of course, of course.....Ed the horse.
Everybody cheers except for Eggman who is the first to notice something very wrong has occurred. The seed is now just one giant dark matter looking planet. A huge gravitational force is being pulled to the point where it plans to squeeze itself and destroy the galaxy. Like every baddies always have in their back-up manual; "Always destroy the entire damn place if your original plan failed. Have a good day and remember, DONT PANIC." So that's basically what Dark Oak plans to do. So all the heroes and villains think of a way to stop this, even going as far as self-destructing Eggy's lackeys...although he later decided against it since the explosion would not be powerful enough. Awww, he just cares for his robot pals sooo much. If he didn't and he's still lonely, I suggest a cat, for Eggman, a robot cat.......Big the Cat?
Meanwhile, the two Supers can't get past the wavy shield thingie blocking the Planet Egg. Super Sonic suggests the power cannon while Tails claims it is too risky, seeing as how they've never power cannoned Super Sonic. Super Sonic doesn't give a crap, so they get the cannon ready anyways. Both of the BT and EC power down their ship to give it all to the power cannon.
Meanwhile, Cosmo's red gem glows again and Earthia speaks to her of her destiny. Cosmo instantly knows what she must do, so she magically floats while Cream watches in distress. She runs over to the main bridge where the teary eyed bunny explains Cosmo's plan to stop Dark Oak.
Cosmo meanwhile literally...well, blossoms...in more ways then one. She flies over to the Planet Egg and a brimming white light passes as pink petals fill the screen. There stands a giant pink tree enveloping the Dark MattererPlanet Egg. She managed to immobilized it, now all Tails has gotta do is push the trigger and destroy the Planet Egg. Tails gets ready and is about to push it on Eggman's signal while Shadow joins Sonic inside the cannon for double the power, but he's extremely reluctant. Cosmo managed to talk him into doing it, and after Tails makes a big speech about their friendship and stuff, he pushes the button and the power cannon goes all explodey, the giant shockwave destroying the thing as the two Supers breeze through and destroys the Planet Egg.
Cosmo is then seen floating in a white screen, thanking Tails. Then she flies off to...well, wherever plants go when they die.
REVIEW:
One thing to point out in this episode is the huge and obvious predictability factored in this episode. I knew Dark Oak had a second plan up he's sleeve when his original one crashed and blew, I knew there would be Super Sonic AND Super Shadow (it's gotta to the point where every major event in Sonic X needs those two...much like recent Sonic games themselves), and I knew Cosmo would bite the big one. Although with the last one, I have to confess, I DID manage to see a clip of the original Japanese or French or whatever version of Cosmos' sacrifice and Tails' utter pain. I am upset that the dub refuses to showcase much of Tails' emotions and instead handle it with flashbacks. In fact, I don't really mind if they DO use flashbacks, but I would have cared and felt more heartfelt if the actor behind Tails didn't make him so easily accept Cosmo leaving him. Instead, he almost sounds so damn casual which is a damn shame when the two had so many interactions with each other, but considering 4kids, I guess this is actually one of their better moves. I mean, they more or less did acknowledge that Cosmo must be blown to smithereens in order to survive, so in some way, I give them the benefit of the doubt. I just wish they could have made it less obvious on the hackjob cuts and more on the emotions.
They did leave it rather ambiguous on Cosmo's fate, so I have to see the final episode to see what 4kids will ultimately do.
Luckily, the animation however was brilliant. They can be wonky at times throughout the series, but I count on the animators that they give it their all during at least the major events in the series. And while 4kids is FAR from being John Williams level musical prodigy, at least they can churn out decent enough sad and emotional music whenever something huge, emotional, and major happens. It's something I can hear very well since it's so different from their waves of giant, loud ones. So, yea.
Oh, and the episode in general was good.
8.5/10
To me it was done and shown very very well.
I mean sure, they cut and shorted certain scences (characters crying), but to me they handled it better than I thought.
The line the characters had were done greatly.
And the music was just beautiful, epsicalll the piano solo at the end when Cosmo thanked Tails.
And trust me, I've some speical epsiodes that lead into finales that were good, but this to me was one of the all-time best.
I'll admit I almost cry'd ast the goodby scence too.

Since you seem to have the original, so how long was this scene? They cut stuff due to commercials and most of the stuff you're mentioning just seems like stuff that's fodder to be cut for commercial reasons moreso than anything else. The fact that they didn't say the word "love" isn't a big deal. They rarely get to say that word unless it's Amy talking about Sonic. ;p
I missed the beginning of the show (I had errands to run), but it seemed like a good one from the ending.

You can see the clip of Cosmo's original demise here, TR:

Aw, it cuts out early.
WTF @ Cosmo's butt growing twice
I think youtube has the full original Japanese episode of that somewhere, but I obviously can't provide a link to it, so I recommend you guys search yourselves. Although it isn't subbed.
If anyone want's to make an AMV to that scene, I've got the pefect song. "I used to love her, but I had to kill her." By Gun's N' Roses.
I agree with Neo in the original, Tails was much more distaught and emotional and the end. His eyes were pouring out so many tears that you could bottle it and sell it like those FFXII potions. But thanks to 4 kids, we get this:
Cosmo - "Kill me and save the Galaxy."
Tails - "Don't wanna."
Cosmo - "Awww c'mon!"
Tails - "Okay." BOOOOMM!!
And what's with him constantly calling her his "friend" it's been pretty obvious that they loved each other. Why does 4kids have to make it so plutonic? Just cuz they're kids?
Just more proof that 4Kids sucks, and should not be allowed anywhere near ANY anime.
Heres a line they should've used:
Dark Oak - "And now, you'll witness the full power of this armed and fully operational death-walnut!!"
Wow, those are like Hayao Miyazaki-sized tears. o.O
3'20"27
That's how long it lasted in the original. ( You got me crying again just for checking that... lol )
Alright, I took the liberty taking the ending away from the rest of the episode and putting it up on youtube. This one doesn't cut early like the japanese one someone else posted earlier.
Sonic X Episode 77th Ending (French)
If you feel like you want a translation of this original text, ask away, I still have the translation I did long ago for the subtitles with Solly.
But now it's late, so I'm away to bed!
