So, it was announced today at Microsoft's E3 conference that Sonic the Hedgehog (the Mega Drive one, I'd assume) is going to go onto the Xbox 360's Live Arcade service.

Xbox Live Arcade, if you don't know what it is, is where you can download smallish games for a couple of quid on your 360, where they come replete with achievements and online leaderboards and so forth. I don't know what extra features will tie into StH though (apart from working in HD), or when it'll be released since there hasn't been a lot of detail on it.

(Uh, I don't think this has been posted already. If so, sorry 'bout that.)

So, they're going to do that with StH1? They had better at least incorporate the Gamerscore system they have for the other XBL Arcade games, otherwise it'll just be a waste, and take away any fun it might bring with challenges and rewards for meeting certain requirements within the game. Like 'get X amount of points in Green Hill Zone' for example.

=3

It'll certainly have gamerscore achievements (to a maximum of 200), Microsoft actually requires them on all games. What you need to do to unlock them or how many there are, we don't know.

Um, yeah. Probably could have made that more clear. I changed the title, so it should make more sense now.

it's alright. with the new game having the same name as the first one, there's bound to be some confusion at times.

Or competing for record time in Green Hill Zone... though I can't play through the zones now to see how well I'm doing now, (let my sister borrow my Sega to take to St. John's for a while since I wasn't playing it at all) if I remember correctly I think I remember playing through Green Hill Act 1 in 28 seconds and Act 2 in 27 seconds when going for speed records. I don't have X-Box, but if I rented it would I be able to rent X-Box live with it? Also, would there be anything you could use to record your playing of the level to put up online to show a replay of how you played through that level?

You'd have to rent an Xbox 360, it's not being released on an Xbox. As for Xbox Live, you'd have to pay for that yourself.

As for Xbox Live, first you have to assume a few things about the game; firstly that it is going to record times. If it does, and that's an if, you would also need to have the leaderboards recording your time. There's not much chance of there being a leaderboard for every level, if there is one it would probably record the full completion time or the overall high score (being the most likely).

You can get a 'silver' Xbox Live account for free, which essentially lets you download games and updates and so forth, but to do what you have to get is a gold account, so you can have your time/score/whatever it would be posted on the leaderboard. You wouldn't be able to rent an account; you'd have to buy one (I think 3 months is the minimum if you don't have the 1 month free trial).

You wouldn't be able to record you playing through the game unless you hooked it up to your computer via a TV card or something, which would be no different to hooking up a Mega Drive. The 360 itself wouldn't have that kind of functionality itself.

Note that's a lot of assumptions anyway. Probably best wait until some more details are released about it.

Well, the 360 does have a USB plug to hook up between itself and a computer. I'm sure video-recording software wouldn't be too hard to set up.

But then again, I'm not a computer buff.

I disagree. If Marble Blast Ultra had time leaderboards for every level, why can't Sonic? Also, last I checked, scoreboards work for Silver accounts, but actual online play requires a Gold.

why would they bother just having Sonic 1 on the 360? why not just have the Sonic Mega Collection Plus on there?

Because Peter "Mega CD 32X" Moore has said they aren't going to adapt any more Xbox 1 games to 360 apparently. I'll find linkies...eventually

Microsoft actually denying that they have stopped backwards compatibility

kay.

It looks like they may be adding some things to the original Sonic for 360. That's the only reason I can see for them slightly changing the title. I just found out in the latest issue of "Official X-Box Magazine (US)" that it's now called;

"Sonic the Hedgehog: High Speed"

Why the added subtitle? I don't know, but there must be some differences to add something like that. More than just achievements.
