XD those catchphrases appealed to me back then. The show was made for younger children just like Sonic X only SatAM isn't anime. You have to realise that these are two entirely different era's of Sonic. But despite my first opinion about SatAM being better. I find myself agreeing a lot with True Red. There can't be an officially better show. It depends on what the induvidual likes and thats that.
Although that explaination sound very elementary and most of us should know this by now...
www.deviantart.com/deviation/40015487/ - 2 opinions of Sally plus a lame-ish fan recreation. Trying to make a "non-cliche" rendition of Sally by making another cliche doesn't work very well.
As Red said: both shows were products of their time. Catchphrases and suchlike that were just accepted at any given time will date.
And it's not just that. To put it simply, we've all grown up, and so've our tastes. For every future member of "Fans United for Sonic X", there'll be another 9,999 who've grown up, moved on and just don't give it another thought because not oly does it not appeal any more, but they aren't interested in nostalgia.
I think they should just turn the OVA into a series and add more action sequences like Sonic CD's intro.
It would be f**kwin.
That really could work. The cast is small and it's the characters people actually give a crap about . Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnick. It would be like starting over.
I hated the OVA. It only had a few scenes worth watching, and the only character done well was Eggman.
I actually thought that they did a reasonable job of portraying Tails - not totally independent, but shown as being smarter than Sonic and leading if anything more complicated than delivering a catchphrase was required.
I'm assuming you mean Sonic X Tails? Then we are in agreement.
As long as it's not OVA Tails: "Oh no Tonic!! I'm tared of whitening!!"

You can apply this to SatAM or Sonic X verbatim and it is every bit as true.
I was actually talking about OVA Tails - Tails was described as having a fear of thunderstorms in the official profiles back then, after all.
It wasn't just Tails whose dub voice wasn't flattering - Sonic sounded as though he had a blocked nose the whole time.
And why's that, Bat?
Because both of those series are crammed with filler and the characters are generally either flat or poorly-acted?
Robotnik/Eggman has always been the high point acting-wise.

I never stated otherwise.
Toby, Tails was actually very smart in the OVA. He was the first one to figure out what was going on when they met Metal Sonic and that whole clone thing. And I think he did something nifty to a watch. But I haven't watched the OVA in over a year so I can't remember what.
I did'nt say he was'nt smart, I said I didn't like the OVA.
The OVA is available at Youtube. But you didn't hear that form me. Hrmm Hrmm *clears throat*
Despite the lackluster voice dub, the animation made up for it. The OVA was originaly supposed to be a series; with the movie being split up to make what should have been, the two pilot episodes. I would have perferred this over Sonic X's cruddy animation any day.
This would have been better. Just think, Sonic X may of not happened if this anime had come out. It would have been everything Sonic X was "as opposed to game reference."
We are clearly not watching the same OVA. The one I'm talking about had god awful animation.
I've got my own little formula.
SatAm < OVA
STH Comic < SatAm (< = greater than right? I forget sometimes)
SonicX anime< (Slightly) SatAm
SonicX Comic < SonicX anime
So, the list from worst to best IMHO goes like this:
OVA
SatAm
SonicX anime
SonicX comic
STH comic (Don't ask about Fleetway 'cuz I aint British.)
The Comics win!!
> = greater than. Easy way to remember is that the wider part of the symbol points is next to the item that is "greater". The narrower part of the symbol is next to the item that is "less".
As for Tails in the OVA, yeah, he did something really clever with a watch so he could track Sonic, I think. I *really* have to watch that again... Plus he was portrayed generally as a mechanical genius throughout the movie, rather than simply as Sonic's shadow.

What I did like about the OVA was that the characters were represented really well, or least cooler than they normally are. Sonic was a sarcastic badass, Tails was a genius, and Knux was mellow and cool, unlike his now "strong idiot" game counterpart.
I like strong idiot Knuckles. ;p
I like Knuckles' current personality best. But I would like to seem him wear the OVA hat again. I thought it looked cool.
I loved that hat and the fact that Knuckles didn't seem attatched to that cumbersome Master Emerald in anyway @ OVA.
Everyone lived on a floating island, except for Knuckles.
Well, if we're talking about Sonic OAV... I like how it implied that humanity had wiped itself out in some ancient cataclysm. You figure there'd be a story there, but the anime was quite happy to continue on as if it were nothing.

Too bad it didn't survive.;___;
The "hat" made an apperance in the Knuckles: Lost Paradise arc. Not to mention Part II of the 25 Years Later arc. Not sure if it was in the first. Can't seem to find a picture of it, though.
Yeah. It looks cool.
Maybe the hat will return someday. Until then be wary of that crazy owl dude. I think whatever island he hails from is packed full of mushrooms.
I bet I could put in the OVA right now and see more frames of animation in it than in Sonic X. If only just slightly.
And if humans wiped themselves out then why is the president and his daughter human? There must be a smallish amount of humans left. But I would think the larger race "whatever that may be" would have taken control. Unless all anthros are by nature too lazy to care about such things.
Actually, isn't Sara a catgirl or is that just a costume.
Tails' personality rocked in the OVA. I've never been one to get hung up on the voices.
What I've been telling my students to do to remember which way is (greater) is to write "ess" into the two symbols: <ess and ess>. The one that looks like it spells out the word "less" is less than. The other one is greater than. For those that listen, they've never made a mistake.
As for the OVA hat on Knuckles (I LOVE that hat), it was in both parts of Archie's M:25YL. He wore it all the time. Just check the scans on the site from Sonic #131-144. Other than flashbacks and maybe bed/sleeping scenes, Knux wore that hat.
She's a catgirl. That's definitely a tail, and I'll bet that there're ears under that suspiciously twin-pointed headdress.
We've had the discussions on catgirls possibly being the result of human/furry cross-breeding before - at least it puts a definite slant on the Sonic/Elise question. 😉
Which leads right back to the human cataclysm theory...
Btw, have you all guessed the name of Sonic's planet?
It was Earth!!
DON'T

FURRIES!
(this public service announcement has been brought to you by zomg! Cyberspace Pope)
Thank you for that, Psxphile. It made my night. XD
in the OVA I heard it being called Planet Freedom. Or I think I did. I can't find the video under my pile of junk.
It was - but the planet's known by a different name in Archie, too, and that turned out not to mean anything.
It was Freedom in the dub, but it wasn't named in the original japanese... at least from what I can remember the last time this subject was broached.
When they're running through the undercity, aren't there a few street names that look either like New York or Anytown, USA?
