Oddly enough, the first Phantasy Star wasn't released until December 1987 in Japan.

Phantasy Star 1 was released in 1988 actually. I'm guessing there was an error on Rockstar's behalf or something. Still really cool to see them do something like that 😛

But the game in that pic WASN'T the 86 game... if it is, then everything I know is a lie...

As I said, its probably just a typo/mistake on Rockstars behalf. Still, pretty cool that the makers of GTA would put a Phantasy Star easter egg in.

Well, I think I understand now. Sega put that in a game called "Rockstar" probably hinting at Phantasy Star... correct me if im wrong.

Considering your age, I think it's (fairly) safe to assume that you've never played or followed much about the Grand Theft Auto series. FYI: It's not a Sega game. Grand Theft Auto (hereto abbreviated and referred to as "GTA"} are a series of "sandbox" type games developed by Rockstar Games and produced by Take Two Interactive. The screen shots posted above come from the 2nd GTA to be developed on the PlayStation 2 console, GTA: Vice City, in which the game's story takes place in the mid-to-late 80s.

Hence, a magazine with a shot of Phantasy Star 1's overworld map (which IS a Sega game, in case you're confused about that too) on its cover can be found hidden within the game. Obviously, someone on the dev team is a Sega fan. Moreover, he's a Phantasy Star fan.

There, I explained the thread for you. Hopefully, now the replies make a little more sense to you and we can end this charade.

Unfortuneately, it isn't safe to assume that because ALL of my friends have played a GTA game.... its sad really, a friend of mine was bragging about "having sex with a stripper on Grand Theft Auto"

I told one of my other friends about it, and he was like "That's impossible. (Name)'s a bragging idiot." then he continued "You can only have sex with your girlfriend."
