I say yes. It had awesome music, especially in Ice Cap and Sandopolis, the best level design(with the exception of Sandopolis Zone 2... :x :?

Due to the nature of its development, there's no match for it. Split it in two, though, and opinions vary wildly. I'm not quite sure, but I think my preference goes something like S3K >> SK > S2 > SCD > S3 >>> S1.

Sorry. Sonic Adventure still beats it for me.

S3&K gets second because of it's perfection of 2D platforming, and it managed to build on it's predecessors, something which sequels can miss out on.

I'll play devil's advocate and say SA1 > Sonic CD > S3&K.

Sonic CD tips it for me because of the boss battles. They're inventive. S3&K's typical boss, excluding Mushroom Hill, is a simple "keep hitting until it dies" affair and in many cases (Ice Cap, Launch Base, Sandopolis especially) you can do this with no regard for the enemies' attacks.

Plus Sonic CD has the whole search for the robo generator and Metal Sonic thing going on, both of which make the game expand a bit more in my eyes.

I didn't particularly like Sonic CD's level design, to be frank. I mean, sure, I can appreciate what they were doing with the Past/Present/Future themes, and that there'd be different routes available throughout, but it just never 'gelled' with me.

I found that I could rarely build up a lot of speed for a while, not because of bottomless pits or anything, but just outjutting blocks in the ground that would stop you. Ugh. (And yes, I know that speed isn't the absolute epitomy of the Sonic series, but when I can hardly build up any speed, well that's a problem.)

S3&K as a joined game, however, I love. <3 Level design felt a lot smoother. It does feel a bit plain when seperated however, compared to Sonic 2. The number of levels in that game was insane. Plus, S3&K had a lot more memorable moments for me- fighting the Super Mecha Sonic, fighting Knuckles within the Hidden Palace before you find Eggman betraying him, etc etc.

Finally, the music. Sky Sanctuary is my favourite music from out of any of the games. It's just so... awesome. <3

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is my fav, tho I play Sonic CD almost as much.

Sonic CD's bosses are more entertaining in concept but not more fun to play against (except Wacky Workbench Zone). Sonic 3K has like 25 bosses and they're all fun enough to beat up. Also, Sonic 3K has areas in the actual levels that replicate complicated bosses like Sonic CD's, like the rising sand in Sandopolis or the giant moving wall in Hydrocity.

Level graphics in Sonic CD all blend together into one big similar looking factory level. All past-styled zones are greenish, and all future levels are black, pink or purple. I get a headache with no change of the scenery. Sonic 3's levels are all focused around a seperate color and they change at a decent pace.

Also, if I want to play as Tails or Knuckles, I'm pretty much stuck with S3K. When I play Sonic CD it's generally to break up a big S3K binge, so I can play that more in the future without getting bored. 😯

I agree with OTB, SA is just my favorite Sonic game all around, the story, the adventure fields, the power-ups hidden within the afs, all of it was just so awesome!^_^

Dang peoples, if you were all tools like me and bought the Sega Bass fishing rod then not only would you have played a Nintendo Wii 5 years early, but you'd agree that Big's stages were badass.

I am such a tool. SA1 = perfe/*glitches through the floor into oblivion*
