Sega reps frequently visit this board, am I not mistaken? If you're there, listen up.
It's become abundantly clear that as the new generation of gaming consoles rears its head over the next year or so, Sonic Team, or at least as we've always known and loved it, probably won't be coming with it. The inspiration and talent which once brought this great group of developers to prosperity and fame has been long since liquidated leaving only a faceless shell of an organization slapped on applicable and likewise marketable products.
It's definitely gotten to the point where I can't in all honesty expect anything new or inspirational from them. Maybe I'll get a few pleasant surprises, but the magic that once captivated me is gone, and since it's pretty much unavoidable at this point, I've almost made peace with that. However, there's still one expectation that I hold to these people, and it's one that I'm not just going to toss in the dung heap. For years, the only semblance of artistic drive that strung together the long since disconnected mind of producer Yuji Naka is that NiGHTS will never be touched again. So, would someone be so kind as to pass a message to him: do whatever you want with your other properties now. The older fans don't care anymore. But please, in honour of NiGHTS's tenth anniversary next year, PLEASE show us one last reminder of the artistic ingenuity that once bound the team together and produce a remake of your masterpiece, NiGHTS into Dreams.
I know Saturn technology is difficult to emulate, but damnit, after all this talk I'm hearing about a Final Fantasy VII remake, I just can't sit down and accept the idea that a far superior game from the same era isn't getting the same treatment. Similar things have been done before, and I honestly can't believe that Sega would lack the resources to make such a thing happen. Rebuild it from the ground up if you have to, but NiGHTS deserves to be preserved for the ages, and I honestly think that this is the only decent way to do it.
A remake with an engine identical to the original, but with revamped speed and graphics, Christmas NiGHTS-like features integrated into all levels, and just to be safe, a pixel perfect emulation of the original game in its original glory as an alternative.
There must be a way. There has to be a way. Please, just give us this one last swan song. Reps constantly insist that Saturn technology is too difficult to carry over, but come on, you created the greatest game ever. I would think that everything is too little to expect from you, let alone this.
SSF runs NiGHTS perfectly of late; the only problem is, the emulator is slow on a low-end computer. I'm willing to bet the next generation of consoles (well, at least the PS3) would be fast enough to run it at full-speed, though.
Frankly, I'm with Pep, only because I never got a Saturn and never had the chance to play NiGHTS. After everyone saying how good is is, I've been dying to play that game since.

NiGHTS is "far superior" to FF VII? That's a pretty bold claim, sir
I played NiGHTS this spring. Borrowed my friend's Saturn for a while. It was unique, definitely. One of the most unique and original games I've ever played. But in terms of gameplay it...lacked something to be desired. It was too simple. Or maybe I was missing something.

Bah, a lot of games are better then FF7 in my opinion.

Square has made it pretty clear that they arent planning to remake FF7 at the moment...
Nomura himself has said doing so would take 300 men just as long as it took to remake the original game, and they'd rather spend the time and resources on a new game....
Doesnt rule out sequals, and doesnt mean they wont change their minds later, but no one is making an FF7 remake at the moment...
As for Nights, I would like the chance to play it... Definitely.
Got the chance to play NiGHTs now. and...I dont know i probably need to read the manual more but its odd.
But I'm surprised that the powers that be havent done a remake.
It's not that hard to figure out without a manual. You get an Ideya (those colored orb things), you give it to NiGHTS, you BECOME NiGHTS, you fly around a 2D course (it'll do the turning for you) grabbing Chips (blue spheres), you toss them into the Ideya Capture (big thing with a transparent top), you then take the Ideya you obtain to the Ideya Temple where you found NiGHTS in the first place, and repeat three more times, before fighting the boss. I'm sure you got this on your own.
If you're going for SCORES, though, which you probably are, you get the Ideya as said, then fly around the course two or three more times just racking up as many points as possible within the time limit before arriving at the Ideya Palace fashionably late with tons more points than you otherwise would have, receiving a good grade as a result. It takes practice to squeeze in extra runs of the courses without running out of time, but not much.
Well, i did that bit the get the 4 jewels and then you go to the boss and then it was the boss I didnt know what i was doing and how the kill it. I wasn't going for scores.
I tried both Elliot's and Claire's dreams and I got the jewels and then boss...die.
To be honest, I never really understood the appeal behgind NiGHTS.
*Shot, hanged, burned, tied and quartered, fed to sharks*
Usually if you suck at the bosses the game gives you a hint as to what in God's name you're supposed to do... I can give you some pointers, but I'd need to know what boss you were fighting. Don't need a name, just a kind of description as to what was going on.
i got to play the game for a short while at a convention last month, but i couldn't figure out what the goal was, so i flew about aimlessly as nights until i turned into the boy and got killed. cc;
but it was fun, i'd like to play it again.
I remember the first time I played Nights using the Saturn's basic controller, which I ended up throwing across the room because it was so aggrivating. When I play it with the 3D controller, it was so much easier and fun. I still go back every now and then.
I totally support a rerelease of the game, or an entire overhaul. Perhaps some sort of two-player co-op mode?
You know, to be honest, I'd hate it if they remade NiGHTS. Sega's gotten a depressing track record lately, and because of that I'm of the opinion that NiGHTS should just rest in peace. They'd ruin something that a lot of people respect.
I haven't played NIGHTS in years (since I no longer own a Saturn), but have fond memories of it. I'm undecided on whether I want a remake/sequel. The current systems I have can't really handle that level of game play, and if I'm gonna shell out for a new console I want to make sure I get my money's worth.
Yuji Naka in a recent interview: (Paraphrased slightly)
"I'd like to go back to NiGHTS, but that was 10 years ago, and I have a lot of other stuff to do. Possibly..."
NiGHTS is too damm crazy for me to understand...LOL
Stop adding nothing to the topic. One-liners that are only BARELY on-topic really don't count.
I hated how I kept seeing hints of NiGHTS in other games like SA and SA2. I even heard about there being something NiGHTS related in that Fantasy Star Online game. But I've never played that. But the thing is. I would always get excited when some NiGHTS easter egg popped up. I was like "Wheeee its NiGHTS maybe that means a new game is gunna be made!"
...
Well none yet. And I'm Sad!!
Yeah, I hate that. It's as if Sonic Team are taunting those of use who never played NiGHTS, knowing that they'll probably never make another one.
Kinda lame question because it was kinda already answered, but is Nights not as good with the basic controller? Would you recommend the analog? At the moment all I have is basic D-Pad.
Yes. But no biggie, bundles of NiGHTS with the required controller are quite common.
Alrighty, thanks. I'll be looking out for it then.
If you practice enough, you can own the game just as much with a D-Pad, as you can an analogue stick. (In fact, even more so in my case. ^^)
