Looks like a lot of Space Channel 5, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Samba de Amigo love. I'd like to see characters and courts from Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star, NiGHTS, and, perhaps Virtua Fighter as well.
The Mario Tennis games are a lot of fun, here's hoping that SEGA can emulate it while putting their unique spin on the genre.
Curse, you, Gale! I forgot how ludicrously fast you were about posting news.
Muahahaha! And I did this on my break from school.
Yeah, speaking of, you should prolly come back to The GHZ. You're still a news guy there, IIRC.
I'm sure they let me go after the first year I was absent. ^^;
Anyway, like I said in my now-CJ'd topic, Sega made Virtua Tennis. It was good. Ergo, this might have some hope for it!
That Sonic stage is like an awesome compilation of Sonic styles.
Virtua Tennis with Sega characters?
Sign me right the hell up!
Also, do as Konami is doing and revive some forgotten treasures for this. Axle Stone, Shinobi, Golden Axe peoples, Ristar.
Hell... Ristar in a Tennis game would be EPIC.
Good to see Sega still remembers SC5.
Now please use some Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Shenmue, etc. setting and characters in this title.
I can't believe it, but I'm pretty excited for this game! I would love to see Nights playing tennis.
Not too sure if I'll get it for the wii or 360, I'll just wait and see if there's any big differance.
Super Sexy news reporter Ulala, YAY!
I saw this earlier in the chatroom and I didn't know what to think. o_O
Now, I see that it is a thing to be celebrated. 😀 I'm particularly excited about Ulala. I still play SC5, man.
I wonder if this will break me out of my long-time resistance to Mario-esque sports games.
Its hard to tell from these screen shots. But I wonder if they bothered to update Ulala's character model.
Damn it! Put some Virtuaroids in the background. Come on Sega you guys have an extensive amount of characters to use as NPCs and actual competitors. USE THEM! Pwease? ^_^
Ristar would probally be the secret unbeatable character, I mean he can stretch his arms to like 4 or more times his body size. Add a racket into the works...
I see Big the Cat and Blaze the Cat in those screen shots :O
Big x Blaze- discuss?!
>_< Ewww...
I hope to see the following series represented in some way:
Toejam and Earl!!!!
Alex Kidd
Ecco the Dolphin: (He can be a playable character. He'll just be a magic dolphin.)
Vectorman
Phantasy Star pre and post PSO
De-cap Attack
Shining Force
Edit: Now I want a Super Smash Sega. -_-;;
With a guest appearance from Mario.
Oh, Toejam and Earl would be sooo cool. <3
But in their Genesis look please, not that hip rapster look they had in their X-BOX outing. >=C
I'd also love to see some pre PSO Phantasy Star there.
I could imagine Toejam and Earl's Tennis court being on an island floating in space. In the distance there would be other roads of floating land, and some that vanish and appear, and have some of the more popular enemies running around...all while being accomponied by some funky beats. Mmmm.
On the flip side, they could go to Funkotron, too, if they wanted something a little more exotic.
Beat will sponsor Jet Set Radio. Or maybe Beat and Yo-Yo. Or possibly Beat and Gum. I don't know what fans considered the "favorite characters" in that franchise.
Beat is the main character from both games, so it'd probably be him if anyone.
If they did Jet Set, they should have the insane police officer running around the court shooting into the sky.
I'd love Toejam and Earl to return, heaven knows they've been resting for long enough.
I want Space Micheal >>
hee hee! *Moonwalk*

Psh, you conformist. =P

Been there, done that.
The Characters will probably get power-ups and stuff based on their abilities in their respective video games.

I think Yo-yo's the main character in JSRF, Beat does'nt really garner any special attention until the Zero Beat thing. >_>
Anyways, I'd love to play Tennis as one of those cute little alien things that Ulala battles. Maybe that rival reporter of hers too... and that guy... Jaguar? Somethign like that.
lol. Yay incredibly unpopular and obscure characters!
I think Yo-yo really was the main character in JSRF (sort of) Corn was the leader and Beat was just some kid who decided to join up.
Maybe Ulala will stun her players with either A: A sexy dance or B: her ray gun.
Sonic can get to the ball quicker than anyone. But I don't know if that can be called a special ability.
Billy Hatcher could....could...what can he do besides roll a giant egg around?
They could totally use the Chibi Vrs from Sega Ages' version of Virtual On OMG.
"It's a tennis racquet. If I swing this, maybe I can hit the ball."
Ryo Hazuki plz
"Little Baby Boy Ryo" would be nice to see, but at the same time...if they had him in there i'd just get more pissed that III is never coming out. Then again if they put him in...it means they haven't forgotten about him.
needs moar super magnetic neo liek WUT?!?!?
Sonic_Freak from Sonic Stadium manage to put scans of the Official PS2 UK Magazine showing Eggman and Amy as playable, Sonic turning into Super Sonic and that there are going to be 14 SEGA franchises in the game. Also there are going to power ups too. Man, this game sound awesome. Here hoping Shinobi is playable.
Wouldn't it be cool to play as a chao? That would be so funny to watch.
14 franchises? I thought this game was supposed to have a little bit over 15 characters? How is that supposed to work when we have 3 characters from one franchise confirmed to be playable?
Maybe you start with 15 characters and unlock more as you go? If Eggman and Amy are playable, there's got to be more Sonic characters in there too.
it would be lame if the majority of the characters end up being Sonic characters.
If that is the case it'd be something like sonic riders...
Sega's FTP has new screens...
ftp://segapr.segaamerica.com/SEGA_GAMES/SEGA%20Superstars%20Tennis/NewSEGASSTennis_screens1119
This keeps looking better and better. I see Motorbug!
Knuckles, Tails, Eggman and Shadow have all had their own games!! They are seperate franchises!!
Eggman...can't think of his game though. >_<
MEAN BEAN MACHINE
Man...Arle and Carbuncle are jerks =(
Yep, Mean Bean Machine...of course. Darn...I forget that's a game. >_<
For anyone not keeping track, a press-release style document was on Segas FTP site, and it reads a little like this.

This confirms NiGHTS (Which hasn't been done in this thread at least), and also the Superstar ability which is probably where Super Sonic will make his appearance. Also mentions 'hilarious camoes and comical guest umpires' which I take to mean that even Sega franchises that don't make it as playable should at least make an appearance somewhere. Also, 'guest umpires'? Does this mean characters from non-Sega franchises? Maybe even console exculsives, like Mario or Master Chief!
Mario deserves to be in this. (is serial)

Never ever use that word to market a game again, Sega

Mario deserves to be in this. (is serial)
There are a slew of Sega characters that are far more deserving of showing up in this game than Mario. Alex Kidd, Opa-Opa, Arle Nadja, Ristar, and any of the JSR and Sakura Wars characters comes to mind.
