Honestly, I am too tired to copy/paste the article.
http://www.sonicstadium.org/news/2010/10/sega-removing-poor-and-average-sonic-titles-from-retail
I don't know what to think about this. Most interesting...
Well that's new...has this been done before, lol?
Not quite as big a deal as it seems. From the article;
EDIT: The guys at NeoGAF have made a list of the
games that will remain on store shelves. Keep in mind that this is
speculation at the moment:OK, just looking through metacritic, these games are being pulled (current gen only):
Sonic the Hedgehog 2006
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic and the Black Knight
Sonic Classic Collection DS
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Sonic Rivals
Sonic Rivals 2
and these are staying:
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
Sonic Rush
Sonic Rush Adventure
Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection
While speculation, assuming that list is correct, out of the 10 games to be removed, 8 of them are already widely out of circulation, and it's just left over stock in warehouses that sees stores still receive these titles. That leaves 2 that are still in print and still being brought by stores. Not the massive move Sega are claiming it to be. While it's nice to see that they admit that there are too many sub-standard Sonic games out there, they're going to need to do more than just leave customers with a choice of 4 crappy Sonic games instead of 14.
Bah! That's funny. They're wanting to clean up Sonic's act. Start anew with Sonic 4. Recreate his success from the early-mid 90s. Sorry SEGA...that is truly impossible.
Remember this SEGA?
Yea that's when you know you've hit it big. 😛
I wonder why Sonic couldn't really run where you wanted him to in most of those games.
Well, most people wanted him to run off a cliff in 06...and there's plenty of them there to do so normally!
Man what is this I don't even... I dunno the legitness of this, since the linked article links to a forum, which links to another source, and that probably links somewhere else but I won't be bothered to follow any further. This COULD be a good sign since SEGA (apparently) just outright came and said they oversaturated Sonic and got a little sloppy. Admitting a problem is the first step to recovery. Plus, that takes big PR balls.
Granted, using Metacritic or whatever hardly seems a solid judge. I was under the impression Chronicles was well-liked. The list is labeled as speculation though. Oddly enough, the Rushes were mentioned in the article as 'pull', yet made the 'safe' list as well... Plus, I would think Nintendo would have a say in pulling the MARIO and Sonic Olympic game... I sincerely doubt that they would just yank stuff, I fail to see how this would really help their case.
Unless... This is all just a ploy to get people on the fence like me to buy the games before they disappear. Yeah, I just got Chronicles because things I have my eye on have a nasty habit of becoming hard to find when I really want them.
"Number 2, what are the 4th quarter sales?"
"Our profits have gone up 700%. Our plan was a success!"
"Excellent. Number 9, how are things on your end?"
"The nuke has just entered America. The Chechnyans will be taking the blame for this one."
"Good. Then everything is set... All we need to do is wait..."
For all your lightgun shooting needs and some other insanity too.
It looks legitimate to me. If you actually follow those links, the original interview with the Sega rep concerned is here, and it's even being discussed on Sega's own fora.
If you actually follow those links
Nope. I drew the line at 3. I don't know why people quote 2nd-hand sources as opposed to just checking the original link. "Bnopbnop.com says that SEGA says that games are being pulled" is one thing, but when we cascade to "this forum says that Bnopbnop.com says that SEGA says that games are being pulled", I just wanna smack someone.
But er... no offense, Akari.

None taken.

I can't figure that out, either.
Small thing I feel I should point out - one or two folk seemed to be under the impression from the original article that Rush and Rush Adventure would be pulled. But that isn't what the guys says, rather the jist of it is that if someone wants to go get a Sonic game on a given console, they may be a tad confused by how many there are.
