I just found this site (sonichq) and noticed a review for www.sonichq.org/games/index/arcade/ the SegaSonic Arcade game. I didn't realize it was so rare and unknown. I played this (actual arcade NOT rom) back in 2000 at Anime Central convention. I used to think those other sidekicks of Sonic's were precurser designs for Tails and Knuckles (which, while those chars (the squirrel and armadillo) might have returned in later games, I bet that these designs or the designs of Tails/Knuckles influenced the others. (Not sure what came first heh))
The only prob is... I sware the arcade game mentioned the chars AS Knuckles and Tails and it was in english, so probably the Euro release. I'm not sure... but one thing is for sure, the chars were altered Tails/Knuckles, it was trackball and the psuedo-3D like in Sonic 3D Blast or Marble Madness.
