I was wondering if anyone could explain to me where the notion that Ray was a flying squirrel came from. Is it mentioned somewhere in the game itself? There's only one picture from SSA I've seen in which Ray's arm flaps are visible, which appears to have been taken from an intro or somesuch (someone - I believe it may have been Wonderbat - posted it here in a topic I've since forgotten).
Asides from screenshots, all I've seen of SSA is the playthrough video which features Ray in action right near the end, but there is no gliding action to be seen, nor any presentation of the aformentioned 'visible membranes' picture. I'm assuming that Ray has no useable gliding skill ingame (as it wouldn't really be accommodated by the gameplay style nor the level design), and that the only way we know of his being a flying squirrel is through a mentioning elsewhere (some story or bio text, perhaps - not that I know of anything like this existing in the game). Do we ever see Ray's full name anywhere in the game? What is the membrane picture from?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can set me straight on this.
This'll be absolutely no help at all, considering when I played SEGASonic Arcade many, many years ago Ray and Mighty were not even selectable, but I believe Sonic, Ray and Mighty all had exactly the same abilities in the game except for a couple of small differences (Sonic and Mighty hung from rails with their hands but Ray used his tail). I have never seen a screenshot from the game that shows Ray flying or gliding, nor any proof of it beyond his name (not even sure the "Flying Squirrel" part is offical because he's been so, unfortunately, buried by SEGA) and his depiction in Archie.
Well, the rom of SSA didn't feature any flying...
Wasn't Ray supposed to be able to glide? Pretty much like Knuckles.
Ray? A flying squirrel? "Hokey smokes Bullwinkle!!"
P.S. That is "hokey" not "holy". That's the way Rocky would say it.
