Just pick whichever discussion you like better....

1) It's such a complex game (It's a good thing I have low standards.) What I want to know is: What exactly did the Black Arms want in this game? What was their motive?

Please don't tell me to just look it up on Wikipedia. Sometimes they make articles too complext.

2) Are we sure that it wasn't David Humphrey who did Shadow's voice in this game?

I know that the imdb cast list for this game says that Jason Griffith did Shadow's voice, but maybe that's just because the person who rums IMDB couldn't figure out who voiced Shadow and so he picked Jason Griffith to put in the list.
Jason Griffith's Shadow-voice is considerably deeper than David Humphrey's.
In the game, whenever Shadow says "Finally. I've got all the chaos emeralds.", it sounded too high-pitched to be Jason Griffith(if you compare it to Shadow's voice in the new Sonic-2006 game).
In the opening scene of the game, when Shadow says "Shadow the Hedgehog? Why does that name haunt me? It's the only thing I can remember, and that gruesome image.", it did remind me of Jason Griffith, BUT in the same scene, when Shadow remembers Maria getting shot and yells "MARIA!", that really sounded like David Humphrey (because it was higher-pitched), along with Shadow saying "Who am I? And why can't I remember anything? And who is this Maria?" His voice there sounds too shallow to be Jason Griffith.
After Westropolis, if played "neutrally", Shadow says "No one tells me what to do. I've got my own reasons for collecting the chaos emeralds.". That also reminded me of David Humphrey. And another whole scene that sounded like David Humphrey is the (Pure-Dark--Dark) ending scene. When Shadow says, "I am Shadow the Hedgehog. I was created to bring order and justice to the humans. With the power of these emeralds, I am going to destroy this ____ planet!", that also sounded too shallow to be Jason Griffith.
And every time that Shadow says "This is who I am.", it sounded like David Humphrey, at least to me.
So what do you all think?

Then again, maybe I just miss David Humphrey's voice too much.

1.) The Black Arms needed the humans as a food source, you find that out in the final story.

2.) It's Jason.

True on both counts, Toby.

I don't recall, however, why did they need to Chaos Control the black comet into Earth's atmosphere in order to achieve this? Could they not have used the paralasis gas on the humans during the invasion?

I have no Earthly clue. Best not to think too much into it.

Why wouldn't they need to? Doesn't it come from the comet?

Oh, if that was the case then it makes sense.

My memory of the game is fairly well repressed and due to my immigration, I no longer have access to my old videogame library to confirm.

Thanks, TTG.

Yeah, it came from the comet, which couldn't get through the atmosphere unscathed. Hence they wanted to teleport it directly to the surface instead, where it latched itself to the ground in gross fashion.

I know someobody already answered the question, but I'm a dork and want to be more precise.

The Black Arms wanted Earth because 1) it's there and 2) Black Doom has this twisted version of the circle of life where, if they eat a person and then do a deed that they would consider good, then they're redeeming the sins of the person they ate.

It's most likely Jason Griffith, David Humphrey would have been awesome.

It was never explained why the Black Arms can't just transport the Comet themselves, but I have a theory that the Black Arms can't use Chaos Control so they need Shadow to do it. Yeah, it has holes in it, but it's my theory. And also this very complicated thing where they can't live on Earth for very long so they wanted the Comet on Earth so they could stay.

The Major problem with the Black Comet is that it didn't have the momentum to penetrate the Earth's Atmosphere without burning up. That's why they needed to use Chaos Control to competely bypass the atmosphere, because they wanted to use the Life Force of Humans to give rise to new Black Arms.

As for why they needed to get the Comet on Earth, think about it: If they had launched the paralysis gas into space, it most likely would have simply harmlessly dissipated into space, and what little reached the surface of the earth wouldn't have been nearly enough for the purpose of the Black Arms.

On to the Chaos Emeralds, it takes a lot of power to move a large object, (Remember it took the combined power of Super Sonic AND Super Shadow to Chaos Control the Ark) and Black Doom had the advantage of having information Shadow wanted (about his past), as well as Gerald's promise that Shadow would collect all the Chaos Emeralds for him. Had Gerald not thought ahead and left that message on the Ark for Shadow, Black Doom may have very well succeeded. (And even then, it was only thanks to Charmy managing to bumble his way to success that the message was even played in the first place.)

As for the whole Voice Acting thing, yes, Jason Griffith does both Sonic and Shadow. RTGC.

Hopefully, this shines a bit more light on the subjects at hand.
