I was told, by a lot of people, that it was because the Gamecube disc was too small to take the japanese subtitles...

And whats the point including them on a special disc, special editions should compliment the main game and, as I said, Streets of Rage just doesnt.

It wouldn't fit in...

That means a number of people are morons, then, because even though there is a lot of dialogue in the game, subtitles are still plain text, and plain text still only takes up one byte per character. So when we consider that much larger and better-looking games have been stuffed onto single GC discs, I'd say that was complete crap.

Good...
That's one more layer of mess cleaned up then.
So why wasn't it on the GC disc but it was on the PS2 one?

Because the PS2 is the dominant console so developers will put certain extras in it but alot of times not gamecube. Even though gamecube can fit alot of content, it requires compression technology to fit a large amount of data. Gamecube can handle most of PS2 content but since it isn't leading the market, developers aren't always willing to try.

Thats a phrase I keep hearing...
compression being = fitting everything in

So it's no that they couldn't fit it, it's that they couldnt be bothered?

Nah, I'd say they considered the fact that most people who own GameCubes are twelve years old and probably don't care.

Basically thats what I think, you see the gamecube disk doesn't have as much space as a PS2 disk. Thats a fact but developers don't use that much space anyway, so most content like japanese language etc can fit. However for all of it to fit on the GC disk depending on how big the game is it needs to be compressed. Alot of developers aren't willing to do that because PS2 can fit more and sony is the market leader. If the PS2 required compression for games you can bet developers would do it without question. By the way isn't this a shadow game thread I know theirs not much info now but were way off topic.

Yeah, it's just my initial point that why, if they couldnt be bothered to compress a couple of lines in Japanese should they be bothered to compress the entire streets of rage trioligy and stick it in with Shadow?

Anyway, enough about that, back on topic, um, yeah, there hasnt been a lot of news, but not long now...

... :^^

Well its not much but I heard that in this game time travel may be apart of gameplay and not just a plot device. Apparently a device in the game will let you travel through time. Now its pretty much a rumor but it could happen. Apparently on august 8th something called the Toy Test in Seattle,Washington had a shadow the hedgehog demo, however it sounded like the E3 demo. I found it on the shadow the hedgehog gamefaq's message boards believe what you will.

the time travel thing is true. what some sites say is that it's a device that lets you edit what you've done.

Are you sure it involve time travel and not flashbacks ? I rented a game the other day called Second Sight which was a game where the main character travel between his "past" and "present"( actually there is a very interesting plot twist at the end but you have to play the game find out) through "flashbacks" and you got play as his past and present self. However you can't change your actions in the past to change the future. What I trying to say here is that Shadow game could be like that execept that you can actually change the future using the flashbacks instead of time travel :thumbsup . At least that my teory of the game could be played. What does everybody think about it?

>Gamers have ultimate control over Shadow's past, with the potential to rewrite his history time and time again.

Definitely LOOKS like Time Travel but it COULD be flashbacks?
Who knows...

someone at the Nintendo boards made a topic about his opinion on this game after playing it at E3:

forums.nintendo.com/ninte...ing&page=1

seems that no one under 13 could play the game. that sorta confirms a "T" rating for the game.

YAy, as long as the dialogue fits that it's aimed for the 12/ 13 year old market and above then this could be great.

If it touts of the same childish rubbish as Heroes but has a T rating then it WILL bomb, horribly.

If you think about it with all the time traveling and it getting a teen rating, the storyline will probably be very deep maybe the deepest ever in the series. Well at least as deep as the adventure games, and since it will be getting a teen rating I expect better dialogue than heroes. This game can be very good but im not setting my expectations too high.

A) I'm Back, might post something up later on the MoFo

B) I'm liking the look of Shadow the Hedgehog for some unknown reason. I think it may have sometihng to do with overdue teenage angst (I'm 20 now!) or the fact the levels intrest me.

i do believe that this game will have the deepest storyline as well, Metal King.

the game is mainly about finding out the story of Shadow's past (by collecting the emeralds of course) while creating your own story of Shadow's future that will lead to one of 10 different endings.

i may be setting my hopes up a tad too high, but there really hasn't been a Sonic game yet that i've been dissapointed with, so it's okay for me.:thumbsup

Their is a pretty deep preview of the demo on the nintendo forums on page 2. From the persons description this game sound great you use the R button to strife, back flip, etc so it sounds like sega has given every button some purpose. Plus he says the speed & combat seem balanced out so thats good to know. All in all this game sounds like its coming along nicely but im still going to be cautious.

This game comes out in Novemeber. Can't wait! :spin
My friends and I were talking about what new features could be added to the game...just a joke really.
The only one I can remember:

Instead of Omochao, there will be a Metal Sonic Chao which swears a lot and doesn't help you in any way whatsoever.

If I try to talk to my friends about this game, they just laugh at me and at Sega. I hope it turns out better than the majority expects. Not saying it's going to suck, but most of us won't know until we play it, will we?

So wait a sec... you think that a teen rating, which generally means profanity and violence, will somehow guarantee better dialogue? Since when does profanity and violence a good game make?

First off I never said profanity and violence would make the game better. Plus how do you know if their will even be profanity? Anyway I said I expect a storyline at least on level of the adventure games, seeing as this game will be rated teen, most people over 13 want at least for the game to explain how you get from one level to the next.

The Teen rating has nothing to do with it. The fact that is has been deemed "more violent than previous Sonic games" by the ESA says nothing about its quality.

Yes I know it being more violent has nothing to do with quality but since this game is going to be meant for people 13 and older only, not to mention the 10 endings I expect a story at least on the level of the adventure games. I don't care about the violence im just saying the story has to be decent to keep people over 13 interested to get the 10 endings.

When i first heard about this game it was more "Shadow has a game" than "Shadow has a Gun". Shadow always been a bit dark and guns and platforming games are hardly shocking nowadays: Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank. and its hardly the massacare that was prince of persia Warrior Within

The more i read and seee of this game the more i think it will be surprisingly good.

The scary thing is that this could be the best 3D sonic game. considering its up against Sonic Adventure and a 1/3 of Adventure 2 isnt saying much but its an interesting new direction.

Sonic was just in a couple of the levels as the good partner and he wasn't really ordering Shadow around, he just wanted to partner up and fight the Black Arms with Shadow. It would appear that they're on friendly terms, or at least Sonic thinks they are. I imagine that can probably change with taking the evil path. He'll also occasionally yell at you if you start attacking gun soldiers (Which can be annoyingly easy to do thanks to the homing attack). It's kind of annoying because if you accidentally attack one GUN soldier, then the ones in the area will start shooting at you evne if you don't want to fight them. (But you can just knock them down without killing them and steal their guns, which is nice)

This is from someone who played the demo...
Although, he confirms Craigs worry and he did accidentaly attack the wrong person, re read the last sentance...
Overall he was quite positive, said that the levels themselves work fine, he was enjoying the weapons and it looks great BUT he complained that the demo he played crashed after he finished any of the 3 levels he played on...
If they dont correct that then I doubt they'll sell many copies

Hey, I just found this from another first hand report:

Spoilers (Select To Read)
"In the game there is a huge war: aliens have invaded earth, but Dr. Eggman has invaded the aliens"

?????
It's an original way to bring the aliens INTO the Sonic Universe, they didnt just turn up it was Eggman who invaded them.
That is if the person was right...

Same here. But even when the game comes out, they'll probably ignore it. My friends aren't into games at all.

Yeah, I heard that too. Either from 1UP or Sonic Central.

Type spoiler tags like this:

<boilers>THIS IS A SPOILER</boilers>

Only instead of "boilers" type "spoilers", obviously. Clicking "Add Reply" will automatically change it to this HTML code:

<table><tr><td bgcolor=black><font color=black><font color=white>Spoilers (Select To Read)</font><br>THIS IS A SPOILER</font></td></tr></table>

But make sure that you have "HTML" formatting checked.

The cutscenes look nice, tho he's using the same mouth movements that Heroes introduced...I don't like them. I always think it's a better option to use the game models anyway. Oh well.

The audio was...Well...fjhkkhjfh. I played it in Winamp 5.05. Everyone else get the same audio?

Edit: Multiplayer seems to be just like SA2. Get to the end and you're able to hit/kill your opponent.

If the multiplayer's good I might actually buy instead of renting, despite the fact that I only really have ONE friend who comes over semi-regularly AND is interested in playing Sonic etc.

Thanks for the vids.

I used windows media player and got roughly the same audio. This was obviously recorded from the floor
of a busy convention hall, so I'm not surprised.

What would you prefer? Let's face it, the adventure games, though better games than heroes, had the lip-
synch quality of a Godzilla movie. Though I don't consider my self an expert in animation, I think it's
obvious that in the adventure games, the Japanese dialogue was recorded first, scenes were animated to that,
and English dialogue was later dubbed in. In heroes we got the mirror opposite; English dialogue recorded
first, scenes animated to English voice work, and the Japanese dialogue later dubbed in.

The only methods I can think of not yet tried are;

A. animate scenes before either set of dialogue is recorded (the way most anime is produced)

or

B. record both sets of dialogue before a scene is animated.

Personally, I prefer the method used in heroes, and I'm glad to see sonic team using it in Shadow the
Hedgehog.

Looks great, whish I could of heard what the hell was going on though...
And, yep, I reckon we'll get our answer about his past judging on that cutscene.

Better yet, use a graphics engine that doesn't suck and does lip-synch on the fly. As far as I know they've been doing that since Half-Life came out in 1999.

Uuuh I was just gonna repeat What I said about using the in-game models, but after clicking MK's link and seeing how terible the models still are, I'll freaking well pass.

Downloading the new vid now. Thanks for reporting. I guess I'll edit this when I've watched the video...

Edit: Well...That was short.

I saw Sonic following Shadow around like before. Nothing new.

Then Rouge following him around. Unexpected, but not OOC.

Then...Knuckles follwoing him around.

WTF. o_O That's all I can say on that.

He still looks stupid with a gun...And a sword. Meh. Whatev. Still looks like it could be entertaining, but the poor visulas still iritate me.

I think they look fine in the actual gameplay, and Shadow looks all right in the movies, I think they did his mode up a bit since the last game...

I dont think it's that ugly, its a step up from Sonic Heroes. It's just everyone elses model who looks tattered in the cut scenes, that thumbs up picture for example, shadow looks great but Sonic...
He's a bit squashed, and a bit flat

SEGA updated the Shadow site with characters profiles.

sonic.sega.jp/shadow/

I must say that Black Arms, the one with horns and moon chain, looks pretty wicked:evil . I mean compared to others Sonic bad guys who have simple designs. I wonder if he is their leader( can't read japanese).

Yeah the black arms guy looks quite cool. Also note that there's alot of Sonic pics around the site. I guess that could mean he'll still play a fairly big role in the game...And I see the Chaos Emeralds are still involved. Asif they wouldn't be. I wonder if Shadow starts off with one.

Well after watching that IGN video and that video of that cutscene I guess I can pretty much sum up all I want to say with the simple phrase, Holy Schick! That cutscene with Maria looked so flippin awesome, and I'm so glad to see Rouge in the game. Yay! I love how the alien leader comes down in a hologram like fashion to communicate with Shadow, but even more than that I love how the sky grows dark. Dark, I said...it's dark!. ^_^

Does anyone know if that stage that has Knuckles following Shadow is set on the Floating Island? In which case I could understand why they would be teaming up... but anything Sega does with Knuckles now doesn't make sense. :p

Where better to get a foothold than Angel Island, and you can see Eggmans ships in the distance so it's either in a very tall canyon or on Angel Island...
