Is anyone else here left a little cold by the fact that Sonic Gems Collection isn't being released on the PS2 here in North America? I'd really like to have these games immortalized (at least for a little while) once I get my PS3, and I don't see why cutting out the PS2 version is necessary.
Not particularly, seeing as I have all three current generation consoles, and a DC. I do feel for those stuck with one or the other when these things happen.
A letter writing campaign would probably be the most influential way to go. Most would reccommend online petitions because they hardly require any commitment AT ALL (no stamps to stick, no envelopes to lick), but except for maybe one or two instances (Buzz Bunny, Viz comics) they aren't taken very seriously.
Email would be best. Just a massive flood of emails asking Sega to please reconsider releasing the game on PS2 here in North America. They seem convinced that it won't sell many copies due to past sales of the other compilation on the system, but if we were to show that quite a huge number of people are interested in the title (I mean, LOTS) they might reconsider. And it wouldn't be much work on their part, seeing as they already have a version running on PS2 hardware, just not in this particular territory.
Make sure to mention that they lose out on sales because you only have the one system the game's not available on, and that you REALLY REALLY want to buy it. If Sega gets plenty of emails as such, they'll eventually get a clue.
But, you know... I'm the optimistic type.
Or just buy a Cube' for dirt cheap...
That's what I opted to do but that's only because I have the monetary power to do so...but why would Sega choose to release it just on the Gamecube when they know they could make more money by releasing it on all 3 systems...?
Trust me..i'll email Sega if you need me too. I've done it in the past. We shall go on strike! *picks up poster* Wait...strike? .____.
some of you crack me up! in america, the sgc game is gamecube exclusive cuz nintendo bought exclusivity rights.
Thank you for stating a well known fact I seriously don't think any of us WOULDN'T have known - assuming, of course, that Nintendo even DID buy jack.
Really, if that was the case then Gems Collection wouldn't be released in Japan for the PS2, which it is. This was all Sega's decision, and not a very good one at that. Not everyone owns a GC, the collection would gather more sells from a multi-console release, especially coming from the people who don't own a 'Cube.
I imagine the logic is probably something like "Wow, the Gamecube sells far more Sonic games than the PS2 or XBox! Let's only bother releasing Gems onto the Gamecube, then!"
It would've made sense to have gone all-format seeing as for example, Sonic Mega Collection plus made number 1 for PS2 and Xbox when released. On the Gamecube alone, it didn't reach there.
Did it in the US though?
I'll throw this out here, and maybe we'll get some responses. I set up a gmail account for this. SGCINUSA@gmail.com
Send your name to the address, and the system you want SGC on in the subject. I'll add it to a sub-page section on My geocities site, and send the petitions to Sega.
Cool a petition. I've always loved being on these things. I'm a bit busy right now though, but I will try to get on there later.
Online petition, eh? That'll do the trick.
Forgive me if I'm out of the loop, but is there any way to contact Sega apart from that cold, impersonal contact form of theirs? Do they still have a 1-800 number?
I really hope that this decision isn't based off of Mega Collection sales, since that's not exactly and accurate gague; those games get re-released constantly, but these games only peek their heads once in a blue moon.
I think it IS, but, as well, Heroes is factored into the equation. I don't know about you, but, assuming Heroes on PS2 didn't fly too high, I think they'd assume it's more because the PS2 owners don't like Sonic moreso than them not liking that one game.

Well maybee SEGA doesn't care about money.*shot*
PSVarious owners have a far wider choice of games to choose from. I mean massive. Maybe Sega figured that not enough PS owners would bother with Sonic to bother with all the advertising and so on.
That didn't stop them from releasing Shadow on PS2 and Xbox, but it is a Shooter, so does that make it more appealing to a PS2/Xbox demographic?
I find that pretty interesting, though. Did the PAL games on the PS2 sell better than the Cube?
I really think America is getting shafted here, no SoR, no original soundtrack, no PS2 version.
If the UK version of this has everything included, just import our version. I'm guessing it wont work on the future PS3 until people start making hax, boots and such for it, but for the time being it's the best option.
Well originally after Dreamcast Sonic was supposed to be only on GameCube, what left me a bit annoyed is when it went multiformat; I don't have any particular loyalty to a console but I always find exclusive series work best.
I think stupid that they think SoR is too mature for Sonic.
SGC already has a fighting style game on it, not to mention the fact that Shadow is getting his own shooter. Maybe SoR would be a good bonus in the Shadow game, since that will most likely get a T anyway.

You'd rather Sega be bankrupt and have no new games made at all?
