Yesterday, I discovered a copy of Sonic CD for the computer! I was overjoyed; I had wanted to play this game for quite a long time. So I put the disc into the computer and wait for it to load.
First, it yells at me, saying it has to run in 256 colors. A quick search told me how to do that and a few moments later I was ready to play.
The screen turns black.... then goes back to normal. A text box popped up, saying the following: "Your current video driver is not DCI compliant. You must have a DCI compliant video driver active on your system to run Sonic the Hedgehog CD. Please contact your system manufacturer to obtain a copy."
So I search Google, not exactly sure what I was looking for. Ten minutes later I decided to come here to see what people who actually know what all this means can tell me ^_^; I would appreciate it very much if somebody were to point me in the right direction with this.
Many thanks in advance ^^;
EDIT: All right, now I've got the Sonic CD XP patch thing. It's still being stubborn though.... It says to apply the patches, it needs a 32-bit application simply titled "SONICCD.exe". I found the closest thing to that, but it still yells at me, saying it's not the right file. Any ideas?

What make is your graphics card (ATI, Nvidia etc.)? You might want to check their website and download the latest driver for your specific card.
Also, is your computer running Windows XP? If so, you'll probably need the fan-made patch to make it run. I don't know where it is on the net anymore, but I certainly have it on my hard drive somewhere...
Edit: Looking at what DCI is (assuming it's the Intel thing I find when I google it), you might be able to get away with just ticking the 'Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution' box under the 256 colour tick box. You'll probably still need that patch unless you're not running XP, lest you get the infamous 'Dino2D.dll' problems.
I'll try that out in a moment. Thanks ^_^
(also, many apologies.... I realized after posting this, it was not only in the wrong forum, but there was a thread very similar to this posted a short while ago. **hides head**)

I'll just add that SonicCD.exe, assuming you loaded it in the default place, would be at C:SEGASONICCDSONICCD.exe.
Or you could try getting a no-cd crack for the game, yknow, if they have one.
Seeing as though they're just the normal game EXE's, but cracked so it doesnt need a cd.
If what bomber said didnt work, I'll tell you a URL of a good, clean, non-spyware crack sit e(Over aim so, like, i wont get banned here) and happiness will be had by all.
Uh, CD doesn't have anything to do with it; you can install the whole game onto the hard drive. In fact, CD's CD check involves looking for one certain file - and even then its contents mean NOTHING, just the fact the file's there.
Dude, I meant the no-cd crack as a working .EXE. Come on, you don't get where im coming from.
The problem was, from what I understood, there was something wrong with the game .EXE. Getting a no cd would provide a working .EXE, and I mearly mentioned the no cd-ness as icing on the cake.

Compact Discs. Those old-timers are a surly lot. They just don't get the DVD generation, what with the minus Rs and plus Rs doin' the ROM Drive-bys and them RWs and RAMs trying to move into their drive bays...
Well, in THAT sense it makes more sense... Chances are, she got the OEM version, which the patch doesn't work with (IIRC).
**nods** It didn't seem to recognize the file at all and the patch refused to work. After about an hour or so of trying to get this to work, I ended up just giving up.
However, I was set up with a different (apparently "better") version of the game with many thanks to Velotix. So now I have the Japanese version of the game that I play through Gens.
Thanks to all of you for your help as well ^_^ I apologize that both my computer and the CD-ROM are ancient and don't work with these new-fangled patch things. **hugs**

Better? Nonono...SUPERIOR!!
Nah, the Mega CD version's not any better or worse than the PC one. In fact, dare I say it I get LESS satisfaction out of using Gens than the PC version, mostly because the sound craps out on me EVERY time I head to the special stages. Music works fine, but the sound never comes back unless I restart Gens. It sucks.
I think they are reffering to the fact that the PC version has several graphical imperfections, such as the trasition between the "End of Level"-"PC Exclusive Now Loading Screen"-"Beginning of Next level" being horribly choppy, and 2nd rate sound quality.
The sound quality never really bothered me, and I don't see loading screens anymore. Seriously, for a crappy computer that I really really want to replace someday, my computer is THAT good. Which implies that just about anyone can skip those unless their computer's from, like, 1998 or something.
SSS's computer is older than '98, i believe, but oh well. the fact is it didn't work and GENs is better anyway.
You know somehow I don't think that computers like Sonic CD because on my CPU the music doesn't play right in that game. *sighs* And I like that game's music....
