Well, there's a topic on Sonic CD music, so why not Sonic 3d Blast? After all, the game had two different soundtracks too: genesis and saturn. Anyway, which did you prefer and why? I for one liked a lot of the genesis music better. It just had a more Sonicy feel..... spare the funky Saturn special stage music, which reminded me of the JPN Sonic CD type music. The Saturn tunes of Rusty RUins, Volcano Valley, and the boss tunes didn't seem as good. I DID, however, like the saturn Spring Stadium and Diamond Dust... and as mentioned earlier, the cool special stage tune.(Twas jazzy.. I like that kind of stuf XD) Also.. the "You're my hero" ending song.. seemed kind of cheesy, IMO. So any, post your opinions. ^^

Saturn version all the way. I'll admit I'm partial to it for having heard it first (albeit I heard the US CD soundtrack first and wound up perferring the JPN/EUR one), but admit it, Richard Jacques is utter class. What exactly HAS the guy been up to lately? I know he worked on Headhunter (which admittedly I passed on simply because A) it didn't sound like such a hot game at the time and B) It was for PS2, IIRC), that he did at least ONE track for Jet Grind (or, preferably, Set) Radio, and that he did a good deal of Metropolis Street Racing... but that's it.

But anyway, as for the music, the whole soundtrack covers a wide variety of genres, and somehow nails each one. Plus, unlike Sonic R, you don't have any lyrics to put up with until the end of the game (although in R's defense, you can turn the lyrics OFF, and I make sure I do; great music, without the singing).

And really, Rusty Ruins has the best music in the entire game, and I'd say it's one of the best tunes throughout the entire SERIES. Yeah, it's that good.

That and the Genesis soundtrack never particularly inspired me, despite having some definite winners (Diamond Dust, while it doesn't spring up warm and fuzzy Christmassy feelings like Jacques' work does, is pretty snazzy in its own right; not to mention Green Grove Act 1 and Panic Puppet Act 1, which both became excellent tunes in Adventure).

Mega Drive version, all the way. I'll freely admit I'm biased, because I've been playing it for almost a decade now, and only got to play the PC version this year - I'm just more used to the Mega Drive tunes. That being said, though, there is some really good music on the PC version.

Definitely the Saturn version - though the Megadrive was cool too, just not quite on the same level. I was really surprised that Sonic Team never really used Richard Jacques again (apart from Sonic R) - his music on Headhunter was amazing, and he was one of the few music composers for Sonic who really captured the feel of the old school Sonic games.

In fact, I'd go as far as saying that I would have chosen Richard Jacques over Jun Senoue to do the Sonic Adventure soundtracks - while Jun's music was great in certain stages (Speed Highway, Live and Learn, etc.), I think Richard would have captured that 'Sonicy' feeling better - can you imagine the ancient Echidna civilisation stages with a soundtrack like Rusty Ruin?

However, I wouldn't let him do anything with lyrics. Though a master of many genres, he really has a blind spot with cheesy Euro-pop lyrics. :)

Jacques worked quite a bit on JSRF, I wouldn't be surprized if he was still around at SEGA.

As for which soundtrack I prefer I can safely say I'm with the Genesis version...due to not having heard the Saturn version <.<...Still, I love Green Grove and Diamond Dust Zones and Acts.

Jacques also done the music for the sequel to Headhunter, "Headhunter Redemption" which was released last year. Anyway, I've only heard Jacque's Green Grove composition (which is truly funky!8) ) for Sonic 3D, I only had the Mega Drive version with the JPN soundtrack.
