This is a topic for writing up an info page on Sonic Adventure in a collaborative manner. The Sonic 2 page is a good model to use and correct and well written content on the current Sonic Adventure page can be copied over (so it doesn't have to be rewritten unless there is more info to add). Media may be useful (music, covers, art, prototypes, magazine scans, instruction scans), but can't be added until the downloads page is updated.

Completed
Existing information: Sonic's story complete with his levels and bosses
The story is divided into 6 parts, one for each playable character, plus one unlockable once all 6 are completed.
Dr. Eggman is after the 7 chaos emeralds to unleash the power of Chaos, an ancient water creature, who Dr. Eggman believes will help him attain his goal of destroying Station Square to build Robotnikland. Sonic and Tails aim to collect the emeralds first to keep them out of Eggman's hands. Meanwhile, Knuckles is on the hunt for pieces of the Master Emerald, which was shattered to release Chaos, so that he can restore it and Angel Island. Unwittingly involved is Big The Cat when his best friend Froggy eats Chaos' tail and swallows Big's chaos emerald. A bird escaping from the Egg Carrier collides with Amy, who decides to protect it at all costs despite being continually chased by Zero, the first of Eggman's new E-Series robots. The wild card of E-102 Gamma as the robot who helps Amy and eventually turns against Eggman rounds out the 6 players. Throughout their adventures, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big, and Gamma are shown various images of the past concerning chief Pachacamac of the Knuckles Clan, his daughter Tikal, the chao, Chaos, the Master Emerald, and the 7 chaos emeralds. Those images are key to understanding Chaos, the danger Chaos truly represents, and ultimately the way to defeat Chaos.
Hmm, not really much, but once my christmas holidays start I guess I can do more. n.n"

Sonic's story
Story:
The story starts out in Station Square, where Sonic is having fun jumping from building top to building top at night. Suddenly he sees a few police cars rush by, sirens sounding. Always up for a challenge, Sonic followes them to see what all the fuss is about.
We're presented with a short confrontation between some policemen and a water creature, which is oblivious to their bullets, reason why they retreat soon after.
Sonic jumps in and the game begins with a boss fight.
Boss - Chaos 0
A fairly easy boss, it takes just three hits to defeat him.
It will try to walk up to you and attack you with its extendable arm or start spinning with its arm reached out. After two hits it will jump on the lampions surrounding the area and attack you from above; during this phase and while he's turned into a puddle of water you cannot attack him.
The best strategy is to use the Homing Attack to strike Chaos 0's brain when he is standing and dodge by running around in circles when he jumps on the lampions.
After being defeated Chaos 0 turns into a water puddle and goes down a manhole.
The camera tilts up to the top of a building to show Eggman laughing and mentioning that the water creature is the "god of destruction".
The next scene shows our hero chilling at a pool, when suddenly he sights Tails having trouble controlling his plane and then crashing. Sonic goes to rescue his friend.
Progress story:
I'm Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog!
I'd just returned to town
after a long journey...
Suddenly, this liquid monster attacked me!
I had no trouble defeating it, though.
Then, while I was lounging by the pool,
I saw Tails' plane fly by, trailing smoke!
Then it fell from the sky, and
crashed near the seashore!
I've gotta go save Tails right away!!
Emerald Coast - Action
Description
The intro level, running around the coast line. Accessible by going to the pool area of the hotel. A nice chase scene with a whale is part of this level.

B - Finish level with at least 50 rings
A - Finish level within 2 minutes
Animals
Koala, Penguin, Rabbit, Sea Otter, and Seal
Story:
After rescuing Tails, Sonic and Tails return to the hotel whose pool Sonic was sleeping at. Tails tells Sonic that he was experimenting with a new power source for the plane: a Chaos Emerald. Sonic then follows Tails to the Mystic Ruins, where Tails' workshop is located.
Progress story: I'm Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog!
I ran across the Emerald Coast
and found Tails,
whom I haven't seen for a while.
He had a great idea about creating
something using a Chaos Emerald.
He just loves making machines!
What?
He has a workshop in Mystic Ruins?
OK, I'll go visit it if you want me to.
Upon arriving at the workshop the two encounter Eggman. A boss fight ensues.
Boss - Egg Hornet
The Egg Hornet will fly around in circles and fire a bunch of homing missiles, which are best avoided by running in circles yourself.
Eventually the Egg Hornet will charge and get momentarily stuck in the ground, which is your chance to hit.
Repeat until the fight is over. There will be more missiles to dodge after each successful hit.
Defeated in three hits.
Story:
Eggman takes advantage of a moment of distraction on Tails' behalf and snatches the Emerald he was holding, which he then "feeds" to Chaos, who grows bigger and with a powerful arm. Eggman explains that with every Emerald Chaos will grow more powerful and will eventually be invincible and help him take over Station Square. He then leaves the scene.
Sonic and Tails decide to collect as many Emeralds as possible.
Progress story:
I'm Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog!
On the way to Tails' workshop,
I was confronted by that evil Eggman!
He stole the Chaos Emerald and
called for that liquid monster...
the one I met in Station Square!
It transformed when Eggman gave it
the Chaos Emerald.
He's planning to make that
monster super strong using
all the Chaos Emeralds!
I can't allow that, Eggman!
I'll collect and protect all the
Chaos Emeralds!
Let's start by searching
in Mystic Ruins!

Boss - Egg Viper
Avoid the laser fire (twice) after each of the early hits and don't fall off the platform during the fight. Do this fight quickly, especially after one platform is removed by the Egg Viper and you'll need to ride spinning disks to attack Eggman on the Egg Viper. At the end, it'll do a "suicide dive" in an attempt to kill you (which will cause you to have to do the fight all over again if it's successful). You need to have a few platforms left to survive the "suicide dive"--if you only have one platform left, you're dead.
Since Erika did such a fine job on Sonic's bosses, feel free to use my guide as a supplement for that. Hope you don't mind, Erika.
This is strictly a boss guide for Sonic's story.
Chaos 0
Hits: 3
This boss is relatively easy compared to the bosses to come. In order to score a hit on Chaos, you have to hit his glowing brain. At the start of the battle, you can easily score a hit just by using jumping on him.
After the first hit, Chaos will attack in two different ways. In his first attack, he will extend his arms and then start spinning. He will then spin around the arena, sweeping everything with his arms. In his second attack, one of his arms will started glowing. After a few seconds, he'll stab in whatever direction you're standing. You can attack at any time during these attacks, but it is safer to just avoid him and attack when he takes a rest.
After the second hit, Chaos goes on the attack again. Along with his previous attacks, he adds in another one. He will leap up and land on one of the poles surrounding the arena. From here, he will slash down at the ground in whatever direction you are. Generally, he'll jump to another pole and repeat the attack, but he will on occasion jump back down after the first attempt. One more hit and Chaos is finished.
Egg Hornet
Hits: 3
This is the first of two boss battles with Eggman. Eggman starts the party by firing a volley of missiles at you. These can be avoided by running to another section of the arena. After firing off the missiles, he'll fly to the opposite side of the arena and extend the two spikes on the front of the Hornet. Then, he'll spread the "wings" of the machine and dive into the ground. Don't let the supposed shield worry you. Once Eggman starts digging into the ground, you can attack him. Be quick, though, because he doesn't dig for very long.
Repeat this two more times and the Egg Hornet will be destroyed. Be aware that after each hit, Eggman will fire more missiles than before.
Chaos 4
Hits: 5
A word of warning for this battle: stay on the lilypads during this battle. If you happen to fall into the water, jump onto the nearest lilypad as soon as possible, because if you sit in the water for too long, you will die.
Unlike Chaos 0, this incarnation of Chaos has a tendency to chase you around the arena. Chaos 4 can only be damaged when he sticks his head out of the water. Chaos has several different attacks.
For his primary attack, he will swim across the arena periodically shooting spouts of water. If these spouts hit a lilypad, it will immediately sink. The lilypad will resurface a few seconds later. There is another variation to this attack. Sometimes Chaos will jump out of the water, causing several water spouts.
For his secondary attack, he will occasionally slash one of his arms around the arena.
Sometimes, he will generate a shockwave that sweeps across a section of the arena. Later in the battle, he will generate two shockwaves.
In his final attack, he will swim out into the middle of the arena and sit there for a few seconds. Then he will split himself into four balls of water that fly in whatever direction you are.
Chaos 6
Hits: 4
In this battle, Chaos can only be damaged when he is frozen. Like Chaos 4, this incarnation likes to chase you as well.
Eggman joins you for this battle, throwing insults and dropping what look like egg-shaped freezers. These are what you will use to freeze Chaos, but they first have to be disabled. If they are not disabled, they will start shooting out frozen air. If you happen to be standing under one of them when this happens, you will be frozen. Press the jump button a few times to defrost yourself. To disable them, simply jump and hit them. Now in order to freeze Chaos, you must manage to get Chaos to eat one of these things. You have two ways to do this. You can simply pick one up, walk over to Chaos, and throw it into his mouth, or you can stand behind one, and let Chaos suck one of them up. In this battle, Chaos has four attacks.
His first attack is a simple inhalation. He will face whatever direction you are and start to suck up everything in that direction up. During this attack, if you run in another direction, Chaos will follow. If you end up in his mouth, you will take damage.
For his second attack, he'll slash at you with his tail.
For his third attack, he will leap high into the air and come crashing down, causing a shockwave that sweeps the entire arena. As his damage increases, he'll cause multiple shockwaves.
For his final attack, he'll jump back to the middle of the arena, flip his tail over, and change it into a pendulum-shaped weapon. He'll then shoot out numerous spikes that cover the entire arena. If the spikes hit you, you won't take damage, but you will stop moving. Chaos will then sweep the pendulum across part of the spikes.
Egg Viper
Hits: 7
This is the last, and in my opinion, the hardest boss in Sonic's game. For this battle, you have two sets of platforms to stand on. To damage the Viper, you must hit the canopy.
Eggman kicks the battle off by shooting a series of lasers at you. He will do this up until the fifth hit. For the first hit, all you have to do is hit him when the canopy emerges from the Viper.
After the first hit, Eggman will shoot the lasers at you again. After that, he will fire a larger, single laser. Be sure to avoid the explosion caused by this. This time, Eggman will pop up and float to the middle of the arena. You must use the homing attack on each of the Viper's body sections to reach the canopy. These are the sections with the green lights on them. Be sure to wait until the Viper is fully extended or you will overshoot. Also, be careful not to go too fast on this part. If you try to do this too fast you will miss one of the sections and fall into the pit. If you fail to hit him in time, he will power up and shoot a large ball of energy at you. If you do succeed in hitting him, don't worry about falling. You will automatically land on the other set of platforms. Repeat this once more.
After the third hit, Eggman will appear at one end of the platform you are standing on and sweep the area with a series of lasers. Repeat the homing attack again.
After the fourth hit, Eggman will again appear at one end of the platform, but instead of shooting lasers, he'll fire off two spiked platforms. The goal here is to jump onto one of the platforms and ride it back to Eggman. When you reach him, jump and hit him. If the platform hits you, you will take damage and possibly fall off the platform.
After the fifth hit, Eggman is now apparently in a foul mood. He plows the Viper into one set of platforms, destroying them. Don't worry, it's not the set you're on.
For the last two hits, Eggman will fire the spiked platforms at you again. Try to get these last hits in as soon as you can, because this time when Eggman pops up, he destroys a section of the platform. You will need as much of the platform as you can get for Eggman's kamikaze attack.
After the final hit, the now mortally wounded Viper will fly around erratically. After a few seconds, Tikal appears to warn you that Eggman is up to something. Get ready to move at any time. Bound and determined not to go down without taking you with him, Eggman will slam the Viper onto the section of platform that you are standing on before falling into the pit. Run to another section of the platform to avoid following him. Be careful not to jump off the platform when dodging. Once Eggman is gone, relax and enjoy the light show.
This concludes the bosses for Sonic's story.
