Mor Sonic games need fanart contests! Its something they've definately done right.
A couple of the USA winners have DA accounts I watch.
I managed to play about an hour earlier today and really enjoyed it. The game is much more similar to Secret Rings than I had thought. I don't have much to report after only an hour, although I am worried that the game is not getting harder very quickly. However, I can't really make a judgement call one way or another until I play more. I really enjoy the combat and the IGN review's comments about the loads and loads of enemies slowing you down is so far totally off-base. The action is quick and light and everything moves at a pretty steady pace. Also in that IGN review the reviewer commented on Sonic "moving like a tank" which is really a gross exageration. Sonic does initially accelerate slowly (though not as slowly as in Secret Rings) but Sonic gets a boost from killing enemies and a quick double jump(air-dash) will get him going really quickly. In addition I've already unlocked an upgrade to increase Sonic's acceleration, so the handling is really not an issue for me.

Oh, so it's confirmed you start out with a gimped Sonic, just like in Secret Rings? Dang.
A 3.9! Wow...Virtual On Marz got better than that. 😛
Game Daily give it a 7 out 10. Apparently the repetive gameplay and missions being easy are reasons for the low score.
7 out of 10 is low?
I believe Nintendo power also gave a 7 (or maybe an , so two out of three seem to think the game is fun, if not perfect.

My Wii owning friend says she thinks the "final story" is more fun than the story/gameplay before it.
I can't tell if I beat the game now. Are there 3 endings or 2. Please pm for help.
I've never taken an IGN review to heart, especially if it's a Sonic game. Unless it's Gears or MGS, IGN usually hates the world.
I'm not suprised that the game has gotten an array of 7's and 8's. Despite the non-Sonic gimmick, I figured it'd end up rather well.
How is this game? If it's just slice and dice and run, it's probably not worth it. Never played it though.

Nah, you're way off. It's run and slice and dice.
i've been playing the game and it seems better than secret rings
That's good to here just got done watching some gameplay of the game looks awesome.
God, really looking forward to getting Black Knight this weekend- especially since I'll get to just laze around the house playing it nonstop after having to write- and I'm not kidding- four two- to four-page papers this week. *screams*
after playing for to days my arms were tired
So I've now played many levels past the end of the story, and this game keeps getting better and better. After the fifth boss the game begins to get more challenging, and I've now run into several levels that I simply cannot beat. The improved difficulty is really welcome and I'm having a blast. In addition, levels are getting longer and more unique, and I've run into a lot of new gameplay features that were absent while still playing through the story. New enemies are popping up and I finally have use for the many potions in the game which prevent things like confusion, petrification, freezing, etc. And best yet, today I discovered three levels called "Legacy" which feature speed boosts, bumpers, actual rings, those flying Eggrobos from Sonic Heroes (I forget if they had an official name), and the homing attack actually works as an attack (although the sword is still an option). I really can't get enough of this game right now. The design is truly quite clever in that the more you play the better things get. Wonderful!

How do you get the "Legacy" levels?
The open just like the others, by beating certain levels. But the Legacy missions read "Legacy: Reach The Goal" or something similar.

Wow, the dialogue is amazingly good. The voice acting is not so great but in every scene the dialogue and chemistry of Sonic vs. everybody is right on.
Review by Roger Hargreaves - We've run out of rationalisations for what Sega is doing with Sonic The Hedgehog.
The only logical conclusion from the past decade of games is that Sega hates the character, hates the original games and hates their fans.
What makes it worse is that each game contains elements which could easily be the basis for the perfect 3D reboot that is clearly never going to happen.
The recent Sonic Unleashed was slightly less disappointing than other efforts (or more so if you consider the additional wasted potential) but this has nothing to do with that.
Instead it's a follow-up to Sonic And The Secret Rings, swapping the Arabian Nights theme for Arthurian legend.
It sees Knuckles standing in for Sir Gawain and more creepy furry romance as Sonic chats up a female Merlin.
We'd like to say the setting was irrelevant, but forcing you to endure mammoth (but pretty) cut scenes, between levels that barely last a few minutes, is the least of its evils.
The worst is that Sonic now wields a smart-talking sword, so that instead of just getting on with some simple into-the-screen platforming you have to stop every few seconds to waggle the remote.
More design genius from Sonic Team!
Unlike Secret Rings, this uses the Nunchuck's analogue stick to move, with the remote used only for sword slashes.
With the novelty of motion control gone, you spend most of the game simply running forward (no matter what turns there might be in the course, the game moves you through them automatically) and jumping over the odd obstacle.
As a special extra, the sword controls have a preposterously slow time delay.
What's maddening about all this is that the presentation is superb.
The CGI cut scenes alone are stunning and the actual in-game graphics are also amongst the Wii's very best.
Unlike Secret Rings, it sticks to the Arthurian theme throughout and the realistic-looking backdrops are superbly detailed, with a good sense of speed. Which of course only makes the gameplay seem even worse.
The most laughable feature is battle mode, which mixes the treacly movement of characters at slow speeds with mindless waggling to create perhaps the worst multiplayer game ever.
The very worst thing about all this is that the alternative is so obvious to everyone but Sega - a proper 2D Sonic game with 3D graphics.
It's a holy grail which this game couldn't be further away from reaching.
IN SHORT: Sonic speeds ever further away from his roots and into one of his most ineptly-designed games so far.
PROS: High production values, with excellent cut scenes and impressively detailed, fast graphics.
CONS: Tedious, skill-less gameplay made almost unbearable by inane combat. Awful multiplayer and short levels.
SCORE: 2/10 Out: Now (UK)
Talk about over-exagerrating. The game's not THAT bad.
Saying something is "not that bad" implies it is still bad in a way.
From what I saw from YT videos, it doesn't look "2/10"-kind of bad, but it looks dull enough for me to not even considering renting the game.

"Wow, SEGA put a lot of effort into this game!"
"Not that the last Sonic game is any frame of reference. F****rs"
What are the odds Sega never intended that line to be in the game. But the developers slipped it in and got away with it somehow.
Wishful thinking that Sega is actually capable of a trait called humility.

You also get to fight Badniks instead of Underworld knights and the gameplay seems similar to previous games.
I've heard some mumblings that this game bombed big time, nothing official, but has anyone seen anything?

Despite all the reviews? Go read them. You'll see.
The rumblings, I heard was that the game debuted at number 30 on the UK's top 40 charts which is pretty terrible for a Sonic game--especially for a Wii one.
I guess people would rather play a new House of the Dead(which is doing pretty well on the other hand) over a new Sonic game.

Actually that was the japanese charts not the U.K. charts.
I knew it move something like 4,000 units in the JP charts. Hmm. let me check the chart where it debuted:
ah here it go, it debuted at 21 in the UK which is better than 30, but still is a underwhelming debute for the franchise.
Guess we have to wait in the following weeks if it has legs or not.

Only 21? madness, especially with the amount of tv adverts (as associated costs) I've seen in ukland for this game...
Obviously, I don't think the Brits like that Sonic Team messed with one of their greatest mythologies.

Frankly, a mediocre game like this deserves to fail. Gamers and Sonic fans deserve better quality out of Sonic games than this. Plus, it was released so soon after Sonic Unleashed there's no real reason to put out a brand new Sonic game so soon.
Definately agree with you. I don't want a new Sonic game every year, maybe every 2 or 3 years.
Even if the Black Knight came out 1 or 2 years after Unleashed I wouldn't want it; it looks pretty boring and not worth more then $15.
Have there been any commercials for this in the U.S. at all? I haven't seen any.
Haven't even rented this like I planned to. From what I've heard around the web, this one isn't worth it. But I'd like to try for myself.
Given there's already an SatBK topic here, thought it was better to dredge this one than just ask my question in a new topic- sorry if this was a mistake!
Anywho, I'm finding the rematch with Lancelot just teeth-grindingly IMPOSSIBLE (particularly after you blade-lock him- I dang near had my arms fall off flailing my Wiimote trying, but I ALWAYS fail...). Any pointers?
