SEGA ANNOUNCES SONIC'S CHARGE ONTO THE Wii CONSOLE
Sonic The Hedgehog Rewrites the Arabian Nights in a Completely New Adventure Exclusive to the Wii Console
SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (May 9, 2006) - SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced Sonic Wild Fire (working title) exclusively for the Wii. Developed by SEGA Studios, Sonic Wild Fire stars the Blue dude with the 'tude on his first solo adventure since the original Sonic The Hedgehog in 1991. This intense and exciting action game takes advantage of the innovative Wii controller as Sonic combines his trademark high-speed action with easy to play controls to offer a brand new experience!
Sonic's new adventure unfolds from a storybook of the classic tale, Arabian Nights, the last several pages from the book have gone missing, and it's up to Sonic to re-create the story. The vibrant environments provide for a refreshingly new look to the franchise filled with brightly colored mosaic tiles, glistening oases, swaying palm trees, and crumbling stone columns. Sonic activates specific areas in the prismatic environment to pull off new tricks and stunts, in addition to interacting head-on with various obstacles by jumping, dodging, and dashing.
"Sonic Wild Fire and the innovative Wii controller changes the way gamers play interactive entertainment," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of SEGA of America, Inc. "SEGA is excited to lead the gameplay revolution through its support of Wii with a Sonic release built exclusively for this new system."
Gamers will use the Wii controller to steer Sonic and experience an untapped freedom in gameplay and control. Hold the controller horizontally with two hands and tilt left and right to steer Sonic on different paths and maneuver deftly from obstacles and enemies. Continue to tilt and fling forward to dash-attack ground and air enemies and to break down barriers. In addition to the main game is an array of unique controller-focused mini-games which make Sonic Wild Fire fun to play alone or as a multiplayer game with friends. Get ready for a refreshing adventure that puts you on the forefront of gaming!

errr..... that sounds silly.
Well all I have to say is that this is obviously a plan for Sega to return to the console market.
Hmmm, dont know really. Sounds strange. I think I actually want to see promo art of Sonic looking like the Prince of Persia before saying any more. Mind you the controls sound interesting.

Sounding better than Sonic 360/PS3 to me.
We'll have to wait and see on that count, truthfully... might be good, might not be. Sonic's gameplay would sure be different when using motion sensitivity exclusively, that's for sure.
USE THE SHELL LUKE
I can't wait!

Sonic running around in a storybook? "Paper Sonic" anyone? (har har)
So Sonic goes into a story book? Well is on a Nintendo console so I am not that surprise by the kiddy story. I wonder how you control Snic with Wii controller?
The last paragraph explains that. And the novelty value of that control method could be majorly off-putting...
Although, looking at the new gameplay footage from StH, there seems to be a heavy Eastern feel to it. It's Far East rather than Middle East (which Arabian Nights is, although we do have this "Iblis" thingie in with the Japanese stuff for StH...), but whoever's coming up with the plots these days seems to be leaning heavily towards civilisations which - whilst admittedly may be close to their own - have a heavy mythological tradition.
Sounds like a successor to Sonic Shuffle.
Thusly, it will pale in comparrison to the Mario Party and Wario Were games which will be released with the Wii's awesome Wiimote power.
According to the Nintendo Conference, it is called "Hyper Sonic."
It looks pretty good, I cannot wait for more footage.

Meaning a Japanese games series is leaning more towards its own style of plots rather than that of the West. Sounds good to me.
I'm not informed enough to pass judgement on this game, and won't be until I play it for myself. It sounds...different, but my lack of understanding the control system makes me uncertain.
Here's hoping
I hope it's playable on the floor tomorrow. I'll try it then.

goodbye.
sounds stupid but i wouldn't mind playing it to see how the controls work out
What the hell?! It looks like Sonic Adventure!
Intrigue grows, and after seeing Super Mario Galaxy in action, I am ready to pre-order a Wii. It'll be money well placed.
Can I quote you on that as well, Mr. It's-over-I'm-done-I've-skipped-two-games-in-a-row-the-franchise-is-crap-now? 🙂
According to the BBC over here, it seems that the PS3 has the same sort of "audience participation" control pad, too. Interesting...
Who said anything about buying Sonic? I was expecting Sonic Shuffle. It looks like Sonic Adventure.
The "must. buy. WII!" comes from Mario.
Sometimes it feels like you only respond to my posts to point out possible hypocristy or say "I told you so"
"intense and exciting action game" made you think Sonic Shuffle? o_O
The whole storybook thing, plus the Wiimote made me, yes. I overlooked the word action, to my error. I shan't do that again.
Now can people stop make me go red for five seconds, please?
Of course Craig.
Sonic Wild Fire? Unless this game is AWESOME, I don't think I'll be buying a Wii. So far, I have seen little on the gaming side of things that has struck my interst for the Wii. Here's hoping more interesting things will show later at E3.
After seeing the video, this game reminds me of the earlier screenshots of what Sonic Rush was originally slated to be with the whole aspect of scratching the touchpad rapidly in order to maintain Sonic's speed. Anyone else reminded of this? Perhaps I'm just in my own little world.
On another note... compared to the Next-Gen Sonic, this game seems like a side-quest, but it's still a bit early to tell what this game has in store.
Whelp, gotta get me some Wii.
~Rico
I wonder if it'll tie into Next-Gen Sonic, since they both have a fire theme and Wild Fire takes place in the east, which is where the Iblis name comes from I'm told.
Strangely, Wii are pleased. X3

Looks like someone missed the brief, yet awesome Super Mario Galaxy footage.
About this game, while it doesn't seem to be technological superior to Sonic 2K6, the art style of this game is more interesting than that one. I wonder though, will this game have a high replay value or will it be one of those short games that you play once and that's it?
I don't know, I'm actually pretty excited about this! I always wondered how a Sonic game would play out on the Revolution (I know it's the Wii, but I'm still calling it the Revolution cause Wii is a stupid name... )
Aw, I was hoping to see some more footage of the game in action and all I got was CG Sonic playing with his Wii... mote.
Oh. Well, that answers my post I just made in another topic three minutes ago. But this game needs to be convincing. I don't want to regret buying it after one week of play.
Barring the price is that of the 360/PS3, I will "be gettin me some wii". I didn't play the LAST two sonic games so maybe its time to give one a shot. Plus the other games for it look interesting as well as the controller system.
This may be the first console I buy without wanting a specific game for it since the Playstation.

Wow. Bozon makes some bold claims.
If what he says is true, then the Wii must truly be the miraculous console foretold by the ancient prophecy. Or something.
Bad enough Sonic games already feel linear, but now it's completely on rails! I hope there's QTE thrown in there somewhere.
This one may be linear, but I rather it be a linear rollercoaster than another "kind of" wide open Shadow the Hedgehog. I mean one thing that should stick out in everyones mind is that the controlles are sounding very decent! And only SONIC!!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
I am beginning to actually have some hopes of this one.
Good find! I haven't seen that on the E3 floor. The title refers to these fireballs that Sonic collects along with the rings. They give him a blast power to make him run super fast for a short period. Also Sonic some time will get a fireball at the top of the chest.
I have seen the footage of Mario Galaxies and... I didn't strike me all that much on the positive side of things. All I saw was Mario hopping from tiny planetoid to tiny planetoid. If the entire game is like that (which if it is, it would be gigantic beyond belief), it would drive me nuts to backtrack if I needed too. At least, that's what I thought when I saw it.
It does seem like what Rush was originally. With all these firey themes in recent games, maybe Blaze will reappear.
So Sonic is in constant motion?
AS I mentioned on the other thread. Only Sonic will be in this game. It's his first solo in fifteen years.
Shig, keep in mind that not everyone reads every post/thread.
I have to agree: "Finally, something interesting."

Hah. You'll see... Shadow will be there, Shadow is always there. Why is he haunting my nightmares?!

Take a look at IGN's new video featuring giant robot. It cheered me.

Anyways, Wildfire... having seen the gameply videos, my only issue is that the levels looked a bit... derivative. Uninteresting. Too much on-rails. Sure, the control system sounds nice, but.... the actual deisng looks like a bit more imagination wouldn't hurt it. Right now, the thing's looking more like a minigame.
HAWT DAWG HAWG!!
Here is a something nice. A full play-thru of the level from Sonic Wildfire.
TEH SPIKES OF DOOM have returned.
This is my first time hearing it with sound. The rap music is horrible.
Actually I'm more reminded of Shadow's levels from SA2.
Shig, I didn't necessarily mean playable. And I do read every post!
Gah, I'm still confused on how this game is supposed to play. I understand using the Wii controller, but why is Sonic alway running? You have to jerk back to stop?
