OMG, Shad, you just made me think.
If Sonic's story is gonna be parallel with DBZ, and Erazor looks like Buu-
Maybe this is a foretelling of Sonic's ending?
No wait.
GT...
But that sucked!
*Super Sonic and Ultimate Erazor fight on Angel Island. Sonic was able to Chaos Control out of the book world with the Secret Rings (OMG TEH PLOTHOLE!!!) and back to the original world. Erazor has absorbed the power of Arabian Nights and utterly destroys it, killing EVERYONE in that world. Erazor teleports to Earth, with his powerful presence disturbing the natural order of balance.
Super Sonic: Ugghh!! He's too strong!!
*Meanwhile, somewhere else, Shaara and Sonic's friends gather the Chaos Emeralds.*
Tails: Chaoron!!! Arise!!!!
Chaoron: I SHALL GRANNNTTT YOUU THRREEEE WIISSSHHHHEEESSSSS!!!!!
Shaara: Great Chaoron!!! We wish to restore the world of Arabian Nights back in order!!!
*Arabian Nights world restored*
Shadow: Sonic!
Sonic: Shadow....you have an idea?
Shaara: Chaoron, our second wish is to bring back all of those who have perished by Erazor!
*Ali Baba, Sinbad, the King, and everyone returns to life*
Ali Baba: What...happened?
The King: Did we...die?
Shadow: Sonic....
Sonic: ?
Shadow: ...A Super Chaos Bomb.
Sonic: What?! A Super Chaos Bomb?!
Shadow: Yes...not only do you need the full power of the Chaos Emeralds...I believe you need the energies of every living being on both worlds!
Sonic: How will that guarantee Erazor's death? He's too strong?
Shadow: Trust me. As a friend, trust me.
*Sonic gives a serious look to Shadow.*
Shadow: Give me some of your power and make that bomb quick! I will hold him down until you're ready to strike.
TO BE CONTINUED.
HAHAHAHHA! @ Super Shadic and Namekian allusion.
So would that make Chaos Shenron?
Sure, whatever fits. *Shrugs*
A more suitable choice than Iblis, wouldn't you agree?
EDIT: NEW spoilers from Blackarms concerning the characters' roles (the ones we already know). Of course, this is a WARNING!
Spoilers (Select To Read): Eggman is a king who wants revenge on the one that attacked him who he beleives is Sonic.
Tails is a young man who is determined to save the one he loves and be proven to be a brave man.
Knuckles is a full-hardy sailor who got himself captured by beast and got locked in a cage. He is hotheaded and beleives Sonic wants to join his crew.
Amy is a maiden who is looking for a man to settle down with, and she beleives Sonic is that man.
I'll talk more in-depth later. From what I've seen, this is fairly accurate, and I'll try to find out more.
Also, get to play the finished game on the 16th! Cheers!
Big deal. =
The Japanese Secret Rings site has been completly updated with detailed info on Sonic's skills, controls and more. There are some screens showing you how to play the game, with some awesome and unique art styles. Also appears to be some screenshots of the opening cutscene.
Sonic's face when Sharha appears is priceless! XD
No kidding- it's like it's straight out of the comics.
The picture Toby posted reminds me of the Legend of Zelda instruction manual (the very first one).
Hey Toby, let someone know when you're going to cut and paste thier post and put it on another forum.
I saw on Bumbleking that you put my post about the gamespot interview from this forum word for word. I don't mind, but I would appreciate being credited.
One week to go!!
Erm, I searched a few pages back, but could'nt find the post you're talking about. 0_o
Though if I did'nt credit you, I probobly meant to but forgot. I apologize.
Okay. Once again, spoilers from Blackarms (I hope some of you won't look at me suspiciously because of this). This time, it concerns the FINAL BATTLE.
ONCE AGAIN, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
(...Although I believe you will LOVE this. Hehe..)
Spoilers (Select To Read): "If you were expecting a final battle fighting as Super Sonic in a boss fight versus a giant reptillian monster, you'll be suprised.
First off, Super Sonic is not in the game. This isn't new to you guys, I know, but many have questioned what it is. My response to you is this; Though there is no Super Sonic, there is a supior being in the game.
Is it some new form of a more powerful Sonic? No. Sonic is himself the whole battle. What is it then, you ask? Shahra uses the power of the Secret Rings to become a full blown djjin. She lends her help with Sonic to face the final threat- Who I will reveal later :P.
Here's what I can tell you, though. You may be suprised. I will tell some traits of this battle, however.
First of all, this is one of the most frustrating battles of all time. Not cause of glitches and camera problems and bad controls, though, it's because the boss is crazy. Rings are scarce, and the boss is a mad attacker, with giant lasers that fill up 75% of the arena, giant sowrds chasing Sonic around and around, summoning 20+ enemies to deal with Sonic. It is no walk in the park. I havn't played the boss yet myself, but I've watched various people play it and get frustrated at the sheer difficulty. I actually haven't seen anyone beat the final boss as of yet when I was watching players. One person got to one-2 more hits left, but then the boss went into a mad scurvey and sped up his attacks to so freaking high speeds, it would be some type of miracle not to get hit.
More on all of this for days to come."
This is amazing. About time the trend has broke!
Oh yes, I forgot. I haven't seen this posted, but ONM (Official Nintendo Magazine) reviewed the game already, giving it an 81%. Hooray?
HOLY SCHNEIKIES! So... awesome.... (bursts into tears of joy)
Isn't ONM now ran by the same team that used to run NGC? If so then this is good news, they never seemed to like Sonic games previously.
I like the palace video, but it seems like he's going so fast that it's making the QT video flicker.
Damn, I'm loving the look of those levels, that palace at night reminds me of Rainbow Road.
I can't wait to try this game out now.
More like the elephant graveyard from Disney's Lion King.
(Another game gear memory from my youth I apologise)

Darnit, you beat me to it.
*Imagines Erazor singing 'Be Prepared'*
o.o
But who would be the hyenas?

Scratch, Grounder, and Cocoanuts in poorly-made costumes.

First Secret Rings video review is in:
gonintendo.com/?p=13346
It's done by two EGM editors.
That... appears to bode extremely well, actually.
I like that they had two guys reviewing it with different opinions of the game. I'm still looking forward to this game even with the "negative" aspects they pointed out in regards to missions. I'm glad there are missions otherwise I think the game would have been too short.
I've heard from two podcasts now. (1up Show and Wiik in review.)
Both say some missions are very frustrating. Both also say it's one of the best Sonic games since "Adventure".
1up says that the music is so terrible, that it's ...... awesome?
Good thing this was considered a "spinoff" type game. Looks like Sega put the extra time afforded by not trying to have it out by the holidays to good use. I am SO psyched!
Looks like the music is having the "Sonic R" effect on people. Alot say it is horrible, but you can't keep away from it as it sticks into your head and want to play/listen again.

I have a feeling that if this game does extremely well, we could see a few sequels, and this type of gameplay will be considered as the main 3D entries of the franchise from now on.
That's entirely possible. However, maybe they could just take a look at what Secret Rings does RIGHT and apply it to future games.
I'd love to see a few sequels though.

Interviews in this very thread indicate that the team had one year to finish the game (including getting to grips with Wii technology) opposed to the usual 2 years.
Quote:
YO: Originally, the whole team started off by developing the Xbox 360 and PS3 games, but when they moved onto the Wii hardware, they realised it was very different. We split up the team, and we started development from last January, so we only had one year to complete this game, with the usual time for a Sonic game being two years. Since the time we could take was only one year, we had to double the size of our development team. So we created the adventure mode and party mode separately, and combining the two was a very challenging thing to do.
So maybe THAT'S what made the difference. Hrmm. Still, my bad. I guess I missed that.
Thanks for the correction, Craig!
I think the difference is that they tried to make the game distinct from STH360, and a lot of what works is a product of steering away from the Final Fantasy-wannabe.
That review loads like molasses. Can somebody gve me the pros and cons? Does this game ACTUALLY give us true free choice in branching paths?
Judging from parts of the video, it looks like there are different paths, in the same way that Rapid Rider would have different paths, you can chose one or the other at certain points. Which really means "we're on the rails, but there are 4 ways to finish!"
Not that that's a step in the wrong direction.
Come to think of it, if Sega ever made that QTE-ish Sonic game, this would have to be the way multiple paths would be implemented, anyway:
1) Reach a fork in the road.
2) Push left instead of right.
3) ?????
4) PROFIT!
Don't have to tell me, Shads. I'm the one who said that the Sonic equivalent of Road Avenger would be the most badass thing ever.
That said, that ship sailed about 10-12 years ago. If it was done now, it wouldn't be awesome.
More spoilers from Blackarms:
Spoilers (Select To Read): "-Erazor goes crazy near the end of the game and won't accept that Sonic is the hero of legend.
-In multiplayer, there's about 5 boards you start off with. Most of these boards are more peaceful versions of their counterpart story mode level, auch as one takes place in Sand Oasis market and one takes place on a tropical beach that is a sunny Pirate Storm.
-Bosses are as follows (I can't say names, so descriptions)
Sand Oasis=Giant purple crab monster.
Dinosaur Jungle=Giant T-Rex
Evil Foundry=Giant robot stuck in a pool of molten metal.
Levitated Ruin=A giant dragon soaring through the skies
Pirate Storm=A giant horned leech that came from the sea
Skeleton Dome=A giant colossus skeleton
-There's a video of a few of the game developers talk about characters they almost made and characters they almost put in. Lots of these are provided with a clip of gameplay, a hand drawn sketch of the character's beta art, or it plays an amusing animated short clip, and Metal Sonic (who through the miracle of audio editing sounds like his Heroes self) appears in a quick 10 second skit whining that he's under appreciated and is more than some lackee.
Lots of the videos actually do stuff like that, sometimes in interviews, or other videos I'm not allowed to talk about right now.
-The normal final boss is Erazer who's trying to open up the Door that separates... well, I shouldn't mention that on second thought. Non-secret final boss=Erazer.
-
Lots of the newer Sonic characters appear somewhere in the game. Silver has a minor role out of multiplayer, but he does appear. Almost all recent characters; whenever Silver, Jet, Metal Sonic, or even Black Doom; Make appearances (most as unlockable artwork, but many appear in story mode, too)."
After reading Black Doom's name, I became pissed. Another one-time character who appears no matter what, who I happen to hate so much, comes back to haunt me. 🙁 But I am excited to see that Metal Sonic skit.
Also, Blackarms has given a review of the game yesterday. This is it right here. It's pretty long, because he was taking his time trying to post it.
Yeah, that skit DOES sound funny.
Here's something comments about the missions and paths:
Quote:
Each world has multiple missions to complete with different objectives to meet. Even though youll play each stage upwards of ten times, there will be different routes to take and the enemies and items will be remixed so it wont feel like the same area. There will be a variety of tasks to complete. One stage will simply require you to make it to the goal. The next task might be to destroy 15 enemies, or collect 4 eggs, or race a character to the finish line. Some missions are easier than others, but as you complete them more worlds will open up. If you become stuck on a certain mission you can often try a different one and come back to it later.

Quote of the Whenever, right there.
From the moment I saw the full E3 demo of this game (thanks to ONM's free DVD way back when) I knew this game was going to rule, bigtime. There's just one problem:
If a game is actually good, it tends not to sell well. .__.
I expected that score, so it doesn't bother me. ...But it seems to me that the multi-player made him score the game 2.5 points lower, even though he really didn't mention anything else about the game. >_>
For Sonic, 7.5 is the new 10!

It's a seemingly good Sonic game on a console that is currently experiencing a drought. Why would it not sell?
IGN posted the commerical for the game.
Needless to say, it sucked.
So i ran into EB today w/ a smile on face and walked w/ thoughts of homicide. They'll have the game tomorrow. =( And my wristband i hope
Hmm...I kinda expected 1up's Shane to give it at least an 8, and be the game's high score.
And it has a soundtrack so bad that it's good? Sounds eerily similar to Sonic R...
One of the reviews we've been waiting for...
The first minute this review appeared, thousands of Sonic fanboys waged war against the kIGNdom.
Gamespot's review is here too.
Lucky for us, it isn't Jeff Gertsmann this time.
The final verdicts are actually lower than I thought...I expected IGN's Matt Cassamassina to be such a blowhard, but Shane Bettanhausen's score surprised me. I expected him to give it at least an 8. And Greg Mueller's score was fine.
