Post information for the Sonic and the Secret Rings page on Sonic HQ. This is a topic for writing up an info page on Sonic 360 in a collaborative manner. The Sonic 2 page is a good model to use. Media may be useful (music, covers, art, prototypes, magazine scans, instruction scans), but can't be added until the downloads page is updated.

I've made a start as I've gone through the game. Correct me if you find a mistake.

Story

English manual transcription
It all started when the genie of the magic ring appeared while Sonic, the world's fastest hedgehog was taking his nap. The Genie's name was Shahra, and she explained to Sonic that she came out of the book of the Arabian Nights, seeking his help.

According to Shahra, the world of the Arabian Nights, meaning the world inside her book, was being threatened by temptations of the evil genie Erazor. She added that, if erazor continues to manipulate the world within the book, he will ultimately gain enough power to leave the book, he will ultimately gain enough power to leave the book and wreak havoc in the real world.

In order to terminate Erazor's vile ambitions, Sonic has decided to dive into the world of the Arabian Nights with Shahra so he can save the true spirit of the timeless tales.

Zones

Lost Prologue - A world made up of missions designed to test the usage of new skills you acquire. Here you will learn the basic controls of the game.

Sand Oasis - A Desert area with lots of ruins with an oasis and town, with the palace of King Shahryar.

Dinosaur Jungle - Prepare to be chased by multiple types of dinosaurs as you navigate your way around the thick jungle and fast flowing rivers.

Evil Foundry - A castle-type level that is filled with lots of machines and traps. You will have to navigate the tight walkways over huge pits of molten lava, and some tricky jumps to make it through the level.

Items

Ring - The staple of all Sonic games returns. As long as you have at least one ring, you won't be defeated. As your level goes up, you will be able to carry more rings. Getting hit by enemy or hazard costs you 20 rings.

Pearls - Small orbs you'll find all over the levels and by defeating enemies. These charge up your soul gauge, which you won't get until later in the game.

Rich ring - Rare silver rings with a star in the centre of them. Picking up one of these gives you 20 rings.

Rich pearl - a pearl with a glowing ring around it, which refills the 20 gauge 20 times more than a regular pearl.

Fire Soul - in most missions, you'll find 3 different red rings called "fire soul". Collecting these allows you to unlock more party games, and the bonus party game characters (Shadow, Cream, Silver and Blaze). The fire soul rings can be collected wthout completing a mission, so you don't have to worry about going through a whole mission to collect one fire soul ring. However, if you finish a mission with a fire soul ring, you'll gain a 500 EXP bonus.

Speed booster - Run over one of these on the ground to get a speed boost.

Switches - Large, round swicthes on the ground. Running over these could do many things. Including making rings or new paths appear.

Springs - Another Sonic staple returns. Jump on top of them to be launched high into the air

Treasure chests - Chests with an item inside. Homing attack them to get them open and claim what's inside.

Jars - run into them fast enough or attack them to break them open, maybe revealing rings or springs. Certain missions will require you to avoid them, or break them, so keep a look out for them.

Grind edge - Jumping on one of these will allow you to grind along an edge or rail.

Catapult - Homing attack onto a catapult, and you can launch Sonic off it. tilt the wii remote backwards to store power, and move the wii remote quickly forwards to launch Sonic into the air, the amount you tilt back and move the remote forwards decides how far Sonic will go.

Air launcher - a circle that you can make Sonic jump into. When you enter it, the circle will expand and contract, you can tilt the wii remote forward quickly to break out and launch into the air, but to get the greatest height out of it, wait until the ring fully contracts before you tilt the wii remote forwards.

Jump carpet - landing on this carpet allows Sonic to spring into the air. If you tilt the wii remote forwards quickly at the highest point in the jump, you will perform another jump in mid-air.

World ring - You'll get one of these after completing a level, and are said to be the part of a great mystery...

Enemies

Green spirit - basic enemy used by Erazor Djinn. Takes one standard hit to defeat.

Red Spirit - Like the standard enemy, but can breathe fire while it rotates, so you're best hitting it from above, or the side to avoid it. Takes 2 standard hits to defeat.

Flower spirit - Enemy shaped like a flower that appears in Dinosaur Jungle. Shoots exploding seeds at you, and you won't be able to damage it if it covers itself with its petals. It takes 3 hits to defeat.

Mecha spirit - A huge robot spirit found in Evil Foundry. You can't reach it on the ground, so you have to strike it's weak point on the head to damage it. It is not harmful, but it can block your path unless you defeat it.

Bosses

Sand Scorpion - The boss of Sand Oasis summoned by Erazor Djinn. You have to keep up with it as it launches missiles at you, when it extends one of its stingers, it will give you an oppurtunity to homing attack the eye on that stinger, then homing attack 2 more times to get to the main eye. After a few hits, the scorpions main eye will detatch and launch at you. When it does, attack the eye, and homing attack it. It will take about another 3 hits to defeat at this stage.

Defeating the Sand Scorpion gives you the yellow world ring.

Statistics

At the end of a mission, whether you succeed or not, the results screen will be displayed. Your final points will be converted to exp.

Action Bonus: points awarded for the range of special actions you use.

Time: The time you have taken to complete the level. If you complete the level fast enough, you will see a medal displayed to the right of your time.

Ring Bonus: 1 point is awarded for every ring you collect.

Enemy Bonus: 50 points will be awarded for every enemy you defeat. Defeating a boss earns you 1000 points.

Technical Bonus: Multiples your score by a number between 0.1 and 2 depending on your performance overall. To get the higher technical bonus, collect as many rings as you can, avoid getting hit, defeat lots of enemies, and get a good time.

Technically, they're called Fire Souls, not Soul Fires. They unlock the multiplayer characters in addition to the minigames themselves.

And form what i've noticed I believe doing a certain number of levels in a world rewards you with a "World Ring", excluding Sand Oasis of course.

Actually, you have to clear specific stages to get the Soul Rings. In at least Sand Oasis, Evil Foundry and Pirate Storm, this entails defeating bosses (although in Evil Foundry's case, there's another mandatory mission after the boss fight to clear before you can claim the ring); in at least Dinosaur Jungle and Levitating Ruins, they just happen to be random missions (not literally, but bear with me).

Yea, that's as high as it goes.

But really, not everyone's going to be interested in filling this thing up, so just because they're not posting info does'nt mean they suck at the game.

It looks like my statement has been misread, but this has already been dragged out way too far. The purpose of this thread is after all to contribute information, is it not? :)

Because of the nature of the information so far I assume we're not avoiding spoilers here, so I'll start putting up a list of all the unlockables (probably edit this post), sorted by chapter and paragraph. The full list looks like it will be very interesting from what I've seen so far.

Would information on how to acquire the Fire Souls be useful? I have found that some of them require specific skills are active when attempting to get them - often the more advanced skills. There's one I got earlier that requires skill 043 (Splash Jump) as well as the basic skills, and that was on the first mission.

I should also note that the first eight skills on the list are initially hidden and cannot be enabled/disabled until you have completed the Last Chapter mission of Night Palace. When cleared, each skill ring gains 75 skill points and the option to remove the skills is enabled.

I don't miss Homing Cancel. :)
