A mere technicality.
and The Dreaded Koopa Kids were best in Mario Sunshine?
I agree. What's so great about it?
We've spent the past 3 pages explaining what's so great about Sonic CD. How about you explain why it isn't so great?
Give in mind that the game came out before Sonic 3, has the most replay value of any Sonic game (I've had it over a decade and still haven't found all the Metal Sonic holograms, they're like optional sidequests), you have 2 endings to earn, 10 stages to run through per level (bad future always kills me on the later levels), great graphics, one of the best soundtracks of old skool gaming, the "peel-out" which was pretty danged awesome (all shall love the figure 8 dash), Metal Sonic's debut, the intro anime.
Hell, I'd say it's the best Sonic game of the early 90's for the intro movie alone, and why not, Sonic Jam is super highly regarded mostly for the artwork and movies on it.
::Claps at Craigey's post-diagram, that made him weep with joy.::
Yeah, I really need to see some explanation on why Sonic CD is so bad. Yeah, it holds a strong spot for all of us that liked it, but in reverse thinking, it must hold a strong spot for you to hate it so much ?
And umm.. I'm gonna go look for that Gems Collection, but is the American music on the american version? Just really wanna hear the version that was on Sonic Jam ... {Don't hit me, It's been a while since I had time to re read responses , so yeah. I'ma go search now..}
Yes. Import from Japan, and get the Japanese soundtrack, as well as all three Streets of Rage games and Bonanza Bros.
In fact, if you DO import, might as well go for Nintendo Puzzle Collection while you're at it. The US release was cancelled, but I've heard it's perfect for 4-player chaos. Dr. Mario, Yoshi's Cookie, Panel De Pon (aka Tetris Attack, aka Pokmon Puzzle Challenge, aka Puzzle League, aka "we can't decide on ONE freakin' name for the series!!!")... sounds awesome. I should import it.
Wait wait... I thought we confirmed importing for the JPN tunage wouldn't work if you have a non-Japanese console? I'm confused.
And I thought importing a game because of such a minor difference as the soundtrack was just plain stoopid.
Just a thought.
I'd hardly call four more games, at least one of which covers the majority of the extra cost in the first place, a "minor difference".

That's the PS2 version. The GC version plays whatever region you bought it from, IIRC.
IIRC means what?
If I Recall Correctly... FTW
Y THNK U
Yeah GC version only, you need to buy "Freeloader" with it which is the Region Free disc that'll let you play foriegn games.
As for "waste of money" having the Japanese instruction manuals, Japanese Sonic CD (which is faster than the crappy UK port and has the proper soundtrack), Bonanza and all 3 Bareknuckle games make it worth it. Especially for a UKer who got the uber uber crap version of the collection.
Speaking as someone who just got a copy of the imported Gems, I can definitely say it's worth it. Streets of Rage is *fantastic*.
Plus, of course, it's the PROPER version of "Bareknuckle 3", the US/UK editions were both heavily editted, and the changes include:
* Colour schemes for many enemies and all 3 of the returning characters. Blaze in anything other than red is just WRONG.
* Name changes, most notably Sammy>Skate
* Boss/Playable character removed: Ash; a member of the village people who is the only gay in the village (people)
* Difficulty rating is down a notch on each mode, US/UK has normal mode as hard, hard as very hard etc, but still wont let you past level 5 on Easy.
* Intro movie with Axel punching screen was removed.
* Storyline HEAVILY editted, Japanese is about X's men kidnapping the US army general and replacing him with a robot to use nuclear strike capabilities, Bad-End Level 7 is White House; US has the city police chief kidnapped and replaced so they can plant bombs around the city, BE Level 7 is City Hall.
* Ending picture of Blaze in a swimsuit editted to make her more modest.
The $40 odd you'd pay for importing the game is worth it for Ash alone. He's hilarious!
Word. I was fighting against Ash last night, and for a first level mid-boss, he's surprisingly tough. Hopefully I'll get some time to play as him later, even if the gay stereotype is somewhat annoying.
Or you can get an Action Replay, which has the FreeLoader built in AND lets you use Debug Mode in Melee. I did. I haven't imported it yet, but with Christmas coming, this could change.

Ah, but you're forgetting that Baby Bowser was a completely different character, as opposed to the same character with an altered appearance
Sonic CD is not overrated. While I don't think it's the greatest Sonic game like many people do, its a great game. The story rocks, the gameplay is cool (with the exception of those special stages), and Metal Sonic is just awesome.
Ah, but you're forgetting that Baby Bowser was a completely different character, as opposed to the same character with an altered appearance
Na. They're very very much alike. Baby Bowser greatly resembles the Koopa Kids as much as Silver and Metal resemble eachother.
Seeings as Silver has never used Metal's attacks and we don't know the formers personality, it is a valid comparrison.
To be quite frank, despite liking CD, I'm going to chime in with a criticism.
The level deign was darned poor. Either frustrating or liner, with none of the balance, imagination or quality of 1, 2, 3 or Knuckles.
Except for Stardust Speedway, for which i shall always have a soft spot.
The music was great, the time-travel ingenious, the mechanics interesting, the into great... but the actual levels were a bit lacking. Competent, but masked by prettiness.
Meh. Silver Sonic was in Sonic 2. Take a look at the Metal Sonic from S3&K: it looks exactly like the one in Heroes.
Don't make me post the Metal Sonic watchers guide again >.>
go on, post it. i haven't seen that yet.
I may have to post a whole new topic about this so you 'n me can duke it out properly
I don't think I've chipped in yet. All in all, I only believe Sonic CD to be overrated when it's praised FAR above S3K.
There is one thing that is not up for debate, though: Sonic CD has had more effort put into it than any other Sonic game to date.
The anim sequences, unique bosses, time attack rewards{specifically he very nifty sound test / da garden and the visual mode}, little scenes accessed by codes, Metal Sonic not only having actual specs but those specs making sense if applied to reality, and the fantastic original soundtrack all come together to bring you that fact.

Baby Bowser is just that; Bowser when he was a baby. He only appeared in Super Mario World 2 as the final boss, and in tje upcoming Mario & Luigi 2 in an unknown capacity.
The Koopa Kid who appeared in Sunshine was named Bowser Jr., and is believed to be the youngest of the Koopa Kids, making him Bowser's 8th child, presumably being named for his great resemblance to his father when he was a kid.
EDIT: Minor typo fixed.

If Bowser Jr. is Bowser's 9th then who is the 8th? I only remember their being 7 in SMB3 and SMW.
And the biggest question of all, who the heck is the mother of Bowser's kids?
I mean, Metal and his various siblings can call Eggy Daddy AND Mommy, but who IS big momma dinosaur-turtle-dragon-thing?
Birdo, who else?
...What, Peach? The mother of THOSE things? I mean, Bowser's already admitted to her NOT being Jr.'s mom, so it can't be her.
Sonic CD had the best special stage design.

And I say that calling ANYONE "white trash" like this is unexcusable.
One of his threads got closed because Wonderbat flamed him by calling him a " B***** " So kingy has the Right to flame wonderbat.
Nobody has the "right" to flame ANYONE on here. End of side-discussion.
Shadow Hog. You're going to go to a new layer of hell filled with Stephen Ratliff fan-fiction thanks to that comment. Making me picture Bowser and Birdo (That is NOT a mouth!) makes me want to commit suicide.
And Explosey boy, two wrongs don't make no right 😉
Yeah, I know. 😛
And for a second I thought you meant my comment to SET.

No, it got closed because KingBooPingo was being a crybaby like he does every time someone tells him he's not the greatest being in the universe.
Funny how Sonic CD "made the cut" for Gems Collection, but Knuckles' Chaotix was left out entirely.
It wasn't exceptionally stellar but still kind of fun, I guess.
Yeah, I liked Chaotix. I wish I could find a 32X somewhere (Ebay, probably) so I wouldn't have to emulate. I loved the special stages. 'Speshly the wireframe ones atwer you get all the rings. ^__^

It's not my fault why Wonderbat is so annoying.
No, but it IS your fault that you're attacking him right now.
Drop it. Now.
