Super Paper Mario is a platformer with RPG elements.
It seemed more of an action-RPG with platforming elements. People consider it as one of the Mario RPGs despite the difference in mechanics in the previous games, so...*shrugs*
Insider Video showcasing power class characters Knuckles and Sonic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00Kb7QwFfaM
The three classes for this game are: power (ex: Sonic and Knuckles), support (ex: Tails), and shifter (ex: Amy).
Why are they telling you all this before the game is even out? I thought we were supposed to stumble upon these discoveries ourselves.
Is it really that big of a deal that we know what the classes are this close to the game? It ain't like the revealed any big part of the plot or anything; course, this is the first RPG I've ever followed since it's announcement and I don't really know what is usually revealed before the release of RPGs. Anyway, that video was awesome! Just one question, does anybody have a clue what a shifter class does; is that a typical class in other RPGs or just one they created for this game?

I don't think it's a big deal either. This is my first time following an RPG since its announcement too, but I don't know that it was that bad to tell the classes, especially if there are only three. As for shifter class, my guess would be something in between Power and Support and depending on how you customize and equip, the character could lean more in one direction.
Hmm, that's a pretty good point there, B; you're a pretty smart feller, you know that?

To get people hyped about the game, ya silly billy.
Also, only three classes? That seems a bit...sparse.
Besides, Sonic's trope is Fragile Speedster not, Mighty Glacier.
Seems like that trope applies mostly to women. Or at least that's what the (admittedly japanese) video games tell me.
CHOICE 1 - MALE, STRONG BUT SLOW
CHOICE 2 - FEMALE, WEAK BUT FAST
And ninjas and thieves.

Well thank you! I find you to be smart too.
As for the female vs. male thing, I agree with Psx that in most Japanese video games the males are usually stronger and the females are weaker, but females have different abilities (speed and healing among other things).
And ninjas and thieves.
Well, even within those two classes, there's going to be a contrast between male and female.
This is better than the Brawl updates, imo. Probably because no one 's making moronic predictions or spreading dumbass rumors. o.o
Looks like I was more or less right about the Shifter class. Kinda interesting, a little bit more info.
Yeah, good guess there, B!
I actually kind of like the retry option too. At least then you don't automatically lose a bunch of data for losing one fight.
I couldn't help but laugh at the narrator's tone during the video. "Miles...Tails...Prower....."
Gamespot Hands On.
Rounding out the initial cast is a love triangle pairing of Amy Rose and Rouge the Bat that's sure to place Sonic the Hedgehog in an awkward bind for most of the story.
What? I was expecting an Amy, Sonic and Shade love triangle but Rouge? So I guess no Shadow, Rouge and Knuckles love triangle then.
Maybe Rouge and Amy are in love triangle with someone else and Sonic is just forced to be part of the situation he has no control over.
Amy....... Sonic
............ /
......Rouge
plz
Can Sonic choose neither as a love interest, or better yet, choose the joke Knuckles option?
Where does Dexter fit into all this.
Dexter's a cookie.
Also, Amy probably made him up.
Dexter's a cookie.
Also, Amy probably made him up.
Or Dexter's real and he turns out to be associated with a major/minor baddie.
Bioware Developer Diary #2.
Knuckles taking on the Mauraders FTW.
Also I want that Shade T-Shirt that guy was wearing.
Amy Rose/Sonic/Rouge? Damn, there goes my fantasy for a potential Knuckles/Amy Rose. Awww, nut bunnies.

MUHAHAHAHAAAAAAAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
Somebody at Sonic Stadium subscribes to Official Nintendo Magazine (ONM) and typed up some of the review and some of the things that they had to say about the game:
Being a subscriber to the Official Nintendo Magazine, I was fortunate enough to get my copy almost a whole week early so here are a few bits of new info from their review of Sonic Chronicles:
- very much "old school" Sonic
- Sonic's friends have learned not to rely on him anymore
- Eggman/Robotnik appears to team up with the gang early on, but a "can he be trusted?" comment in the review makes it seem suspicious...
- some characters join via the plotline and some join via performing certain tasks (e.g. Cream)That's about it really. Overall they absolutely loved the game and hailed it as the return of old Sonic, fitting into the franchise perfectly despite being an RPG instead of a platformer.
Final verdict: 93%
Here's their closing statements anyway:
+ A compelling storyline
+ Enjoyable battle system
+ Lovely visuals throughout
+ The Sonic spark is back
- The odd repetitive battle"Not only is Chronicles a fantastic Sonic game, it's a superb RPG game in its own right"
Maybe Eggman can't be trusted?
Meh, it's the same video as the one posted from IGN 4 posts up.
Opps sorry.
High scoring reviews, positive hype, free Sonic stylus with pre-order?
This is a damn sure thing for me. 30th can't come quick enough.
Wow
Found my missing DS just in time to buy this game =D
Spoilers beware!!!! The first 10 minutes of Sonic Chronicles...... in french.
Edit- Some new screenshots including one that reveals a new member of Shade's group.
I like the rare Chao with the horns. He looks cool.
The unique Chao looks adorable.
Just started playing. Loving it so far. <3
Curse you, GyserHog .
I take it you are from Australia since according to Sonic Stadium EB Games broke the street date down there.
Damn we still have to wait a week for it.
Nice Gyser, nice. I saw the commercial for this last night...must say it looked rather neat.
The story in the manual says that 4000 years ago, the two dominant echidnas tribes, the Knuckles and the Nocturnus, lived in a relative peace. Both clans wanted more territory. In this war for expansion, a cataclysm happened, causing the fall of the Knuckles clan and the rise of Angel Island. The Nocturnus clan disappeared too. All traces of this clan have disappeared today, except a little, roboticised survivor.
A plot that was revealed in the Australian Instruction Booklet.

The official website has been updated with more info on the chao, more screen shots, and character bios. The new character bios include: Gizoids, Millipede, shield Pawn, and E-123 Omega.
The main reason it got 7/10? It was too easy
-----------------------
Now i'm worried! what do you guys think! Is it crap or gold!? Now I want to cry;___;
Most people are saying gold. I'll have to play it before I judge.
For those who care, I typed up the Giziods bio (I probably won't do the others):
Gizoids are ancient weapon, first discovered by Professor Gerald Robotnik. They are able to form a link with different beings who are considered powerful, allowing them to copy personality traits, knowledge, and fighting abilities; they further amplify this ability by absorbing the chaos emeralds.
It seems the only two bios left are Eggman's and the old white echidna's.
I also forgot about the new locations shown:
N'Rrgal- A disgusting gassy swamp world infested with slug like beings.
Voxai Beta- an alien landscape made up of a series of floating islands, many of which can only be accessed through telleportation.
A further translation of the premise of the game from the French instruction booklet:
4000 years ago, the two rival clans of the dominant race Echidna lived side by side in relative harmony. The fragile peace that persisted between the two clans for centuries threatened to be broken at any time. The borders of the empire of Knuckles Clan and the Clan Nocturnus began to encroach one on the other, and neither side is ready to cede the slightest piece of territory.
In the war for expansion that followed, an unforeseen cataclysm caused the fall of Clan of Knuckles, raising Angel Island from the surface of the Earth. The Clan Nocturnus did not experienced a much better fate: the entire clan disappeared, taking with it everything that was associated. Nobody has been seen since. All traces of the existence of Clan Nocturnus have now been eliminated, with the exception of a small robotic survivor, its name lost in history.
On the other hand, time has elapsed since the crushing defeat of Eggman at the hands of Sonic and his friends. Nobody has reunited thereafter, and they are presumed disappeared forever. Without any chaos and terror that mad scientist liked to spread, the world has become pleasant, quiet and prosperous.
Sonic, meanwhile, spent most of his time to explore the farthest corners of the planet, since it no longer has to play super-hero who saves the world. His wanderings have been suddenly interrupted when he received a call from Tails on the frequency reserved for emergencies. Central City is in turmoil, while Knuckles has been kidnapped!
Sonic and his friends are able to discover that the events of the past can still influence the future. Could it be that there is a link between the fate of the two echidna clans and the problems Knuckles is facing today?
Now i'm worried! what do you guys think! Is it crap or gold!? Now I want to cry;___;
Obviously gold. It only got a 7/10 because the game was too easy. If the game was harder it would have gotten an 8 or 9. So is not really a big deal.
The review also make it seem like the game is very shallow compared to other RPGs that are already avalible and coming out for the system. I mean the Pokemon games are easy RPGs also, but there is so much stuff going on with it that makes is deep within that outershell of "my first RPG"-candy coating.
I'm calling that this will be Bioware's lowest scoring game so far when all said and done.
Seeing that this game looks to be short and linear, maybe I either get it when it's discounted or as a rental. Unless more impressions says that this game is a day one purchase otherwise. So far though, the only impressions I heard from with someone who has similar taste in RPGs as me is:
"Combat is awful. Sound is awful. Art is awful."
"Combat is awful. Sound is awful. Art is awful."
-----------------------------------
The art is amazing and the combat doesn't sound super bad. I just heard that after a while it can be a bit annoying. But come on pokemon gets gay after awhile too. I'm not buying it.
