THe Final Boss and Ending.

Whoa, now we are posting end game spoilers now. Looks like it is time for me to bow out from this thread(well, maybe at least until I played it). But before I doooo...
Some dude at 1up gave this game some a very positive review. Welp, I'll see if I will be pleasantly surprised, or look at the positive impressions in confusion and can only wonder if it was because a whole bunch of prefessionals like to ride on Bioware's collective member.
Cream is the most useful supporting character, her healing abilities are miles above Tails
miles above Tails
heh
Wow. First time i've heard of a positive DS rental :O. I'm gonna splurge on it, even if its halfsies, only because I have 1 game for my DS (yes, I borrow games all the time, only own one so far..) so hopefully I'll have a better sense of the gameplay myself by the middle of next week.

LOL, who said you have to leave. I didn't even watch it. lol
I can't rend hand held games from my video stores.
yeah to rent things I usually have to beat somebody up and say im renting it
but then i usually have to pay this crappy late fee

First footage I've seen of a SWATbot in the game. I think I've seen screens of this robot before (not knowing it was supposed to be a SWATbot), and I'm going to have to say it looks real generic. When they said SWATbots, I was expecting something that looked close to the original. That was a really generic looking robot. I actually think that it looks more like a Shadow bot than a SWATbot.
Up to chapter 8. Just about killed my eyes. Very fun. Good dialogue. Ok storyline.
Not really spoilers, just my thoughts on the playable characters, but just in case:

John (or anybody else who owns the game) I have a question, I'm not sure if this is truly a spoiler question but:
What classes are all of the characters? I know:
Sonic- Power
Tails- Support
Knuckless- Power
Amy- Shifter
I could hazard a guess at the others (like I'm sure that Cream is support for instance), but would you mind telling us what class the other 7 characters are?
Sure:
How do I beat the first encounter with the swat bot in central city?
Started playing yesterday night and been playing all day today and so far it's been very fun!
I'm a bit of a slow player, I like to grind my characters a lot and explore every nook and cranny before going to the next spot, so I'm only at chapter 3 and my chars are all about level 6.
Battles sometimes can be very long, but I generally find them fun and challenging. The chao equips are very helpful, some of them raise stats, others allow you to get one extra item after each battle, but I found the most useful ones to be Ferox (rare type, POW moves automatically work, without EBA-stylus tapping) and Cheese (raises luck of all team members).
Story and dialogue have been enjoyable thus far and I've even laughed out loud at some things the characters said (Sonic: "So what do we do now?" Big: "Group hug?"), the story gives a bit of a Sonic Battle feel to me and that's a good thing! The "branching dialogue" thing is fun to play with, too, but as others have said it doesn't change anything story-wise.
The one complaint I have with the game thus far is that movement in the overworld is a bit sluggish and sometimes you see a place and have no clue how you're supposed to get there.
@ stairmaster: That battle was a pain.. Spam Amy's Tarot Card POW on stronger enemies (hope you have it), it afflicts them with a curse status basically making them miss all the time for several turns, giving you time to power up your chars (Blow Kiss POW or Prune Juice or whatever) and kill them. Also, I think ground element is super effective on Swatbots, so try using a ground-type chao. I had to retry that one several times, but in the end managed to finish with all my chars alive. :/
Is it against the rules to ask for help with saving the game on NO$GBA?
F8 saves, F7 loads.
I usually save and load in-game, though. Snapshots to back my data up just in case.
The emulator keeps crashing when I try.
Same here - how do people fix that configuration on that? >>;;;
I like the game, but can't play it because it WON'T save on any of the other Save Cartridge modes! ~Fume~
Maybe you have an old version? Works fine for me.
I'm at chapter 4 now! :'D
I'm thinking we should try a different emulator.
So I finished it. It was great. Needs a sequel. Because the ending is lol.
I have one question: Is Dexter ever shown or mentioned except for that one screen we've seen?
Omelette du fromage?
Omelette du fromage?
Maybe redundant, but
She mentions more than once throughout the game that she doesn't think you'll ever get to meet him.
Yeah, I've heard what Toby has said. I find it unlikely that we'll meet him. I do think this game will get a sequel though, based on the reviews from people who have played the game as well as official reviews.
Thanks for answering my question John, I have one more if it isn't any trouble: Besides Cream, which of the other characters are optional? Is she the only one?
So are there any other emulators besides No$gba this will work well on?
Okay, yeah, so that is pretty much a sure thing than that Amy was making him up. Anyway, as far as a sequel goes, Bioware did say that if it was popular and well liked they would make one, and I can't see any reason now that they won't as I'm sure they won't make a decision based solely on IGN's review. Finally, according to Spite, Omega is optional as he never was able to recruit him.
I thought he might be. Thanks for answering. I'm pretty sure I know how to unlock Cream, but does anybody know how to unlock Omega? From one screen I've seen, it looks like he might be found in Metropolis.
EDIT: Someone has said that supposedly what you have to do is go to the NW corner of Metropolis, and then you have to use one of the fans on the tower that sort of resembles Eggman to get to Omega. The person isn't positive on this though, as this is just something that they have heard.

Yeah, that's pretty much correct. After solving the switch puzzle that raises the escalator to the top of the crane in Metropolis with Tails's team, you'll find several different flight paths available to you. Omega is through one of those.
Okay, thanks GyserHog!
For those of you who didn't attend the special early release of the game in NY, I found some pics online of the things that you got. http://www.flickr.com/pho.../72157607558397507/ It seems like the chao they gave out is kind of cheap. Besides the chao they gave out Unleashed cards, a signed cover of the game and the special styluses. Someone claims that they supposedly hinted that there might be three more special chao like one that would keep your characters from losing PP.
Oh wow, didn't even know they were having early release party >> Well I'ma have to wail til Mid-October to get it anyway. May find it used for 30 by then, but that's ok
I hate that even in the age of online-capable handhelds you can only get certain Pokemon through physically attending Nintendo events (I doubt anyone on WiFi want to trade their Darkrai/Shaymin/Arceus for anything I'm willing to part with). Now it's the same thing for Chao - and I could sure go for one of those godlike Chao right now. No PP loss? NEED.
To be honest I'm not really enjoying the game yet. I've had it for three days but haven't played it for more than a few hours. Last night I felt I was warming to it because I was kicking ass in battle, but today I repeatedly got mine handed to me by those stupid unavoidable giant worms that munch on you for a 1-hit KO. Their attacks do +50 to my urge to go play something else instead.
I've heard from some people that the beginning really stunk and that the more you progress into the game, the better it gets. I personally don't know, I have to wait until Wednesday to play the game. However the Gamestop nearest to me only had ten of the special stylus sets, and offered to let me come in early to get one of the few they had (I got the last one). So I now have the 3 Styluses, but I have to wait until wed. for the game.
I'll be having to wait until Wednesday as well, but unfortunately I saw our shipment come in, so look-but-no-touch for me.
At least I got like 3 packs of the stylus's.

My understanding is that all the stores get the game on Sept. 30, but won't release it until Oct. 1. That's what my Gamestop is doing anyway. I was expecting it to come out tomorrow, but waiting one more day won't be that bad.
Considering this is Bioware and not Sonic Team I'd welcome a sequel. They might be competent enough to fix past errors to make a better game.

The last Insider Video (#10). This time focusing on action rather than talking.
EDIT:
For those interested, these are the styluses that Europe are getting:
I would have liked to have gotten the Amy and Eggman styluses...
For anyone interested, this was the Australian pre-order bonus.
A cool tin to put mah DS in.
I hated the game at first, but it slowly grew on me. I liked it overall, but I have a lot of annoying nitpicks. Playable character and minor plot spoilers ahead.
- POW moves. The touch sequences are annoying at first, but my real problem is the way they use retro sound effects. S1 special stage jewel tints for successfully followed paths, hurt by spikes sound and air bubble sound for unrelated things, etc. Really feels like they were using them just for the sake of it; not used properly at all. The attack menu for them isn't greyed out when you don't have the PP to use any and, finally, the name is stupid. ;p
- The flee/chase minigame is stupid and the more difficult variant of it is forced on one of the last battles. It was okay the first time it was forced because you only had one character to control and it actually made a lot of sense. For a game so obviously engineered to be beatable by even the youngest sonic fans, this thing is really hard and frustrating when you have 4 characters out, which you almost always will.
- You can use items even when they won't have any effect and waste them away with wanton tapping. Again, it's weird considering that the game is pretty easy.
- Sonic, Tails, Knuckles (and I think Amy) are referred to as Team Sonic. Twice.
- The retro remixes are a wasted opportunity. Half - no - 80% of the time I couldn't even tell they were remixes of old tunes, and when I could, I didn't really take to them. The fan-made ones that can be found on places like OCRemix, especially the Hedgehog Heaven and Project Chaos collaborations, are much better.
- Most of the sprites have white outlines. If I had to guess at the origin it would be that the art was all originally in a lossless alpha transparency format, like 24-bit png, then lazily converted to a 12-bit single transparency format, like gif, and all the alpha transparency pixels were given a white undercoat. I've seen this in other DS games, though not quite as bad, and it's really annoying. If I was crazy I'd say it defeats the point of transparency in the first place.
- Comic book-style cutscenes can be good, if done right. These ones aren't. They're very short, a little sloppy and feel quite rushed.
- Bugs. You can run away from the first encounter with Shade, since unlike with most battles you're supposed to fight, you're not frozen on the overworld. If you do and come back, the snow won't melt and you'll be stuck trying to solve a 6-button 4-stage puzzle that requires you to look at a screen (which the unmelted snow completely obscures) to solve. It'd take about an entire hour to get through that thing blind, and that's if you're lucky. I had to reload from a different file and lost about 40 minutes of progress thanks to this, and that's only because I was alternating save files every so often just in case. Also, once in a blue moon a movement ability icon won't show up and there's no indication that it's supposed to. I was stuck in Metropolis for quite a while because of this.
That last one is a bit too serious to be a nitpick, I suppose, but onto my thoughts on the characters.
Sonic - Superb; he'd have a permanent slot in my party if he wasn't forced in the first place or my favorite character to boot. Axe Kick is amazing but all his other moves pale in comparison. I like how you can choose to have him act snarky like in STC or like regular old segasonic.
Amy - Blow Kiss is an awesome support move and the only reason to use her. She's pretty damn poor as an attacker, even with maxed out Low Blow. Personality wise she's not quite as annoying or insane as she usually is.
Tails - Everyone believes he's vastly inferior to Cream, and I say balls to that. Medi bot provides a constant stream of PP and HP for 3 turns and can be used twice per round, so as long as something doesn't go drastically wrong, you can prolong the flow indefinitely, and if you get really attached to Cream he fills her role in the second teams you occasionally split into nicely, though his other moves aren't that useful. Noticing a pattern here?
Rouge - Easily the worst character. Her only useful skill is Plunder, which deals no damage and simply steals an item from an enemy.
Big - A tank, plain and simple. Battering Ram is okay, but not that good for an attack that can only be used once per round. Didn't really use him enough to find out if his other skills were much use.
Knuckles - The current consensus seems to be that Knux is pretty fab, which strikes me as odd, considering that Sonic does more damage and attacks thrice per round (as opposed to twice per round). Knuckles has his uses and I kept him in my party as long as I could bear it, but more damage is better than armor piercing in the long run. Revolver Slam was pretty cool while it lasted.
Cream - She has a PP restore skill that restores PP to the whole party, including herself, so it's entirely self-sufficient. But she starts off with low PP, and it takes quite a while for her to reach the point where her HP restore skill doesn't leave her unable to use her PP restore skill. I prefer Tails.
Shadow - Seems like most think he's better than Sonic, but I didn't find him to be anything special. Chaos Spear is armor piercing and his best move. Atomic Strike is pretty cool for taking out randoms in three rounds if Sonic and Shadow both have enough PP and raw attack power. The short process of recruiting him is pretty cool. His dialogue is as dumb and annoying as usual; still his angry, angsty self. Hasn't mellowed out a bit.
Eggman - Awesome. He only has two skills, but both of them rock. Bombardment hits all enemies for good damage, and it had better, since he only gets one turn per round. Sabotage is a dual attack with Tails that instantly kills any robotic enemy, provided you ace the touch sequence and the 20%-10% (0% at lv3) chance of failure doesn't do you in. His overworld animations and attack animations are great; it's a real pity that you don't get to use him much. His dialogue is pretty good too.
Omega - More versatile than Eggman and a little more powerful too. His laser is armor piercing, which is nice. Didn't really use him much. Has a few funny lines.
Shade - What Knuckles should have been. Like Knux she can only attack twice per round but unlike him she actually has the damage output to compensate and even rival Sonic. Blade Rush, Echidna Rush and Blade Drop are all good; she replaced Knuckles after I couldn't stand him anymore. I like her as a character, too.
Anyway, despite all the nitpicks I listed earlier, I enjoyed the game. the current metacritic aggregate of 77 is pretty accurate - above average, but nothing spectacular or revolutionary. I liked the way the credits were presented. If they spend more time on the sequel and iron outl the more obvious faults, it will be great. As a final thought, the final fight is hilarious. Now I'm off to play new game+ and see how quickly I get bored with it.
woop woop long post
Got the game and I like it a lot so far. I like the options for dialogue and the combat is okay. I think it will take some getting used to however, as it seems to be very picky about your timing on the POW moves. The story is fairly interesting, and I've just beaten the SwatBot (which was a lot easier than people made it out to be). So far so good!
An update from the main site:
There are new screen-shots, as well as some very interesting concept art pics from Metropolis. Showing you a bit of the city, and a glowing device with an evil genius standing before it. They also have the SwatBot in the concept art, looking a little more like the comic/cartoon SwatBot, but it still looks more like the comic's Shadow Bot.
Pir'oth Ix- The leader of the Nocturnus Clan Echidnas four thousand years ago, he incited his tribe to war against the Knuckles clan of echidnas. When the Knuickles Clan was wiped out by the guardian spirit Chaos, Ix and the guardians were ready to rule the world - but then they mysteriously disappeared. (He's that white echidna from that screen-shot a while ago.)
Dr. Eggman- the eternal nemesis of Sonic, a mad scientist bent on world domination. (His pic confirms he is playable for a while.)
They also have the locations of Metropolis and Nocturne up. Both look interesting, though I really liked the Eggman statue in Metropolis and that particular place caught my eye.

Just Got my copy today (with the Gamestop exclusive stylus set!) & would like to say some of my thoughts
THINGS I LIKE!
1. Love the Opening cutscene, this thing is like playing a comic....wich is great
2. I like how the battle system isn't to easy or to difficult.
3. Love how sonic interacts with other characters a lil bit o STC sonic in their it would seem.
4. Art & story are great
THings I don;t Like
Enimies won't stay dead! Stupid Robots Keep self Repeairng
2. RPG's make me lose track of time...I played until my eyes were burning
OTHER
1. I think Amy's "Boyfriend" Dexter is a sad made-up attempt to make sonic jealous
2. I find the fact that rouge flitrts with sonic disturbing (I mean arn't Knuckles & Shadow enough!?) I will say this for rouge though, she's tough & a lot more useful then amy (so far)
3. I wil most liekly end up loving or hating this game by the end!
Overall i give it a 8 out of 10....so far!
Incidentally, I haven't come across the scene where Amy calls Rouge trash.
13 rings to find and 4 more chao to unlock.
Sorry John that stuff doesn't appear in the game. Don't worry that stuff will added in the sequel .
Btw I hate the Marauders. They are so cheap with their stupid stasis bombs and regenerative power. I hate them.
Also EGM review
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - A (Game Of The Month)
Good: Fantastic action-lite RPG in the spirit of Super Mario RPG series
Bad: BioWare's buyout by EA may mean no sequels
Nice.
Bad: BioWare's buyout by EA may mean no sequels
Or too many sequels.
@John Taylor
Dammit, I should have bet money on that.
Finally finished it, after playing bits and pieces since I got it. I loved it. My biggest problems with the game were that is was too short, and far too easy. I never once got a Game Over.
Also, Echidna Rush = Best move in the game. No exceptions.
Well, my sister babysitted kids from church the other night, and the oldest one was playing with my DS when I went to work. A few days later, I noticed I couldn't find my DS so I thought the kid either took my game with him or lost it; I looked though my house and asked the parents to see if it was at his house and couldn't find it anywhere. Finally, tonight I just looked up on the shelf in my closet and found it there, and come to find out my sister had put it up there to take it from the boy and forgot about it.
To think, I've been suffering for two days with having Chronicles and no DS, and it had been under my nose, or should I say above it, the whole time. Anyway, I'll play the game tomorrow when I get home from work! I'm so excited!!!
My only regret is that I didn't make it.
I'm going through the game for a third time. I've just equipped Sonic and Amy with the Chao that makes the rarer Chao pop out of the eggs and I've already managed to get two of the ones I have remaining. So, 1 more to go now!
I've got to find 4 rings on chapter 10 and then I've done that as well. The trouble is I have no idea where they are and it will take a while to get to chapter 10. Even in my vastly overpowered state. Oh well. Tis fun.
I finished the game yesterday and have only 2 rare chao missing... one of which is the one that makes rares appear. >>"
The events in the ending are foreseeable, but it still surprises you to see it being pulled off. Blatantly screams sequel and all that. The way they presented the credits was funny, too.
Also, as I've seen people say in GameFAQs, this is definitely a sequel to Sonic Battle as far as story goes (or Battle is Sonic Chronicles 0), and this is a big plus for me, as I loved Battle's plot. Emerl is <3.
It's a definite buy, but there's one thing I'm wondering about: does the European version's language adapt to the DS language setting? I've seen it on sale and the box claims "completely in italian", but I want to play it in english! D<
Odd how some games allow you to change the language, others adapt to the DS settings and others just don't let you change anything...I've had this kind of disappointment before with Pokèmon Pearl. ._.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this. It's more clever and imaginative than most recent Sonic titles, and that much I can appreciate. Maybe my team is a bit wanting for power, since the side quest baddies are powah-dunking me into oblivion and I'm surviving only by the Angel Amulet, but even with that kind of frustration aside, I'd say BioWare is on to something with this one.
