Well, I beat the game last night, er should I say early this morning? Anyway, I thought it was a pretty good game but will admit that the ending left A LOT too be desired and it would almost be a crime not to have a sequel, but seeing as how it was received fairly well and probably made some money, I don't see why it wouldn't receive one. Also,
^Yeah, that fight was a total anti-climatic mess.
Also, it seems that this game is getting more mixed reviews as time goes on. EDGE gave it a 6 in their mag, but the review doesn't seem to be available on their site.
Eh, I don't know if I'd call it a mess but definitely anticlimatic!
Let's just hope there actually is a sequel or else bad fanfiction will attempt to tie up loose ends and such.
Anywho, since it's been more than a month since release now, this topic doesn't need to be stickied anymore. That is all.
""i am rhule the plainit Mobeius Earth now SOnikuu" said Rhobotnick in his big bilding with mastash.
"you caent whine, eeggman" crys Sonicku.
He use super sonicku and Rhoboitinick is dead.
THE END.

Plotholes all tied up.
That was better written than the actual game. Awesome job, Craig XD
So this game is the pile of whatever it sounded like through the whole development eh?
Again, if it was developed by SEGA instead of Bioware everybody would have been flaming it months ago.
So can anybody tell me about the Espio and Vector cameo, or even link video or screenshots?
<Again, if it was developed by SEGA instead of Bioware everybody would have been flaming it months ago.>
Pretty much. Though I personally would have been more intrigued than really angry depending which team at SEGA would have been developing this game. I might welcome a sequel done by the Skies/Valkryia Chronicles team more than that specific Bioware team. BELIEVE!
<So can anybody tell me about the Espio and Vector cameo, or even link video or screenshots?>
There wasn't any Espio cameo, just a brief name drop of the Chaotix name. Vector only appears in character portrait since he was communicating with GUN via transistor radio and has only two lines. It was pretty lame, bro. 🙁

The best part of this parody is that they accurately portrayed the battles and the quality of the game's music. XD XD XD
A pile of the steamy stuff, is probably too harsh for Chronicles. Its ok, I do believe if Sonic Team were going to do it, it would have been much worse. It would have been far too serious and none of those Omega and Robotnik lines would have made it out.
What really killed it though for me was the fact there is EA Quality Assurance in it. If those nasty people had released FIFA on Dreamcast there would still be Dreamcast. ;_;
That parody though, bloody funny.
So they claimed they would make us like Big the Cat. Was that as much of a forced bomb as the video suggested?
Depends really, Big the Cat's involvement was usually reserved for big discussions between the various characters, as a sort of pun machine to break up serious segments.
Example:
Sonic: What are we going to do?
Shadow: No!
Sonic: NO U (note: there is a mission where you as Sonic can verbally bitchslap Shadow)
Knuckles: That has been pretty much all of your involvement so far hasn't it, Shadow?
Shadow: I'm only here because I'm popular... ;_;
Omega: Useless Meatbags...
Tails: Soulless Rustbucket...
Big: I have an idea...
*Everyone turns to look at Big*
Big: ... Group hug?
And that ladies and gentlemen is the extent of Big's involvement in the game. That and Battering Ram. Battering Ram is Awesome. Along with the Omega and Big double team move.
The story is very much from Sonic's eyes. Knuckles and Shade are more the centre of attention than say... Shadow. Only really Tails, Amy and Rouge has much input beyond taking them with you constantly to hear what they say. Eggman and Omega have great lines though. But Eggman isn't involved for long and Omega is in the same boat as Big. Shadow and Cream are very much in the background and nothing they say is particularly memorable.
Gameplay wise, there are two zones which require Big's invunerability skill in order to navigate, so you have to use him.
They are tiny and you have the option of avoiding encounters.
I finally saw some of those comic book style cutscenes. And I was instantly reminded of how people complained about Secret Rings' cutscenes. HA If only Chronicles had done that.
man, if they go through with this they better get their %*+* together... I couldn't even bring myself to finish Chronicles
Maybe they can just write the script(which will be more Sonic-like than Mass Effect-lite), and outsource the rest to a talented Sega team that is familar in making great rpgs.
At least include some voice samples this time. Holy. Even something on the relatively sparse level of Sonic Battle will do. At least it's VOICES.
LOL
NOW we want voices in the games? :O
That's madness!
I'm popping in for a visit because, even though I pre-ordered Sonic Chronicles, my job prevented me from playing the game much and I finally sat down and beat it between Christmas Eve and yesterday. I also didn't want it spoiled.
For me (which I figured would be a dissenting view & glancing through some posts here proved that), it was definitely money well spent as I love the game. ^^ I still feel stupid for taking so long to figure out how to accurately use the "shrinking circle" POW action. Battles would've been much easier in the beginning if I had known how to use it. I got into the story a lot, though I guess it helped that despite being mostly told from Sonic's POV, it was such a Knuckles (and Shade)-centered story.
As for me, I altered who I used but some combination of Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, and Shade were used with Sonic most of the time--unless I was in a situation where I had to use someone (such as Big or Amy) for their abilities or split team requirements.
My only complaints from a playing stand point was not incorporating a way for you to know what each POW move does during a battle and it is a little short (but if it was longer, then I might not have been able to finish it until much later--and that would've been annoying; such a double-edged sword of a complaint).
Hah, on "???" for Super Sonic and the final Ix version. The ending cracked me up with the whole scene that basically became: "Eggman has betrayed us!" "No duh." I also liked the hint that they may have been gone for a year or two while it seems to them only a day or something and then how the credits were done (which I did not just have stop because I wanted to see how Omega & Sonic were going to be used). It just seemed it was nice for a game to not take itself seriously (and there were many moments scattered throughout; though the ending I felt drove it home moreso than anything else) after so many Sonic games that have been much too serious.
I'm sure the backstory that was made up for this game will not be considered legitimate, but it wasn't bad. Of course, I do have a known echidna bias. I've only enjoyed Sonic Battle, Sonic Adventure, and Sonic 3 and Knuckles as much as this game.
Japan can now experience the averageness...
Oh yes. Seriously though, if they get better music heads will roll.
No, heads will roll if they get CG cutscenes and extra chapters.
There's always the ultimate kicker of someone having listened to feedback and changed that ending. But unfortunately, those're very long odds.
It would be hilarious that the reason that it took so long to bring it to Japan was to improve everything that was bad about the game since it would be competing with an even larger and arguably better DS RPG market, and treating this as being Sonic's few chances for a decent marketshare over there.
Even more hilarious if there is little to no change at all and it would be desinated as a kusoge title in the 2ch community.
kusoge
I am the only one who had to look up on Google just what that meant?
I'm more interested to find out if the script is changed. Particularly Sonic because SoJ does have a different opinion of what Sonic should be like, against everyone else in the world.
kusoge

Sorry about that. For anyone else who want to know what I'm talking about: http://maiku84.livejournal.com/280485.html
Sega actually had to apologize to the fans for putting out a game of inferior quality
So why haven't they done this for SonicNEXT?
Maybe SEGA secretly hates Sonic the Hedgehog despite how much income the franchise bring...which explains a lot.
^Craig's conclusion in the Shadow the Hedgehog commentary. I think Satan was involved.

Because 2D fighting games are serious #%%$#!@ business. More serious than their mascot character in one of the worst games ever.
Looking at that list the games on it seem to be more massive let downs rather than out and out god awful games. Mind you if they did go after the worst games ever it'll probably something that Ubisoft releases for the DS. Every year.
My only real hope for the release of Sonic Chronicles in Japan is the slim chance that it will inspire the natives to take a crack at a proper Sonic RPG themselves.
EDIT: oh, and maybe they can revive this concept for delicious lulz

And have Reiko Kodama and the Valkryia Chronicles team involvement. And have it be an original entry instead of continuing the story from Chronicles.
Wait, does the game have to bomb or be a success in Japan to make that dream happen?
"EDIT: oh, and maybe they can revive this concept for delicious lulz"
Shocking plot twist: Amy is Sonic's sister. *shot*
Better: SEGA is bought by Nintendo and the Mario & Luigi people do it.
What is wrong the current set up for a Chronicles sequel? The whole Robotnik rules the world and Sonic and his friends have to beat him. And I did think Shade was pretty cool, needs a name change though.
People began liking Eggman as an incompetent villain apparently.
Some concepts and general atmosphere reeked in the first game and I rather see a brand new game that doesn't reference anything there. Most of the time games feel much more satifiying when creators treat it as a one-shot deal instead of planning it before hand as some big exavagant saga that will span for X amount of games.
Sonic V2:
"People began liking Eggman as an incompetent villain apparently."
But not really.
Vec:
"Better: SEGA is bought by Nintendo and the Mario & Luigi people do it."
They don't need to be bought by Nintendo for this to happen. Intelligent Systems is a fine choice also.
Wait, does the game have to bomb or be a success in Japan to make that dream happen?
Either way, it'll mostly depend on whether anyone over there feels they can surpass what the "gaijin" did with the Sonic RPG concept. Shouldn't be too hard, really.
Shocking plot twist: Amy is Sonic's sister. *shot*
FFFFFFFFFF--... fund it.
and the Mario & Luigi people do it.
Hm. That day might not be too far off. I guess it'll depend on whether or not Alpha Dream feels a "Sonic & Tails/Knuckles/Blaze" game could be done without completely aping M&L's unique gameplay style. And, you know... if Nintendo's cool with it.
Then they can roll out Mario & Sonic.
Sister Sonic... what if instead of being about Sonic's sister it was actually about Sonic becoming a nun.
The japanese site has been updated. The game will be called Sonic Chronicles: Invaders from the Dark Dimension. The trailer shows some new footage at the beginning but I don't know if that will in the final game.
I doubt it. I recognize the area they show at the beginning as the beginning Voxai colony area.
Also, a couple of the early trailers before the games release had some CG footage in it that wasn't in the final game. Case in point:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO6OKmbSJZ4 - Regular trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hafv_HJcKCU - Enemies trailer
Although if the Japanese version did get some exclusive stuff, then that would just be sad. :<
It also seems that it will be released as late as August. I wonder what modifications did they do to this version seeing a release this late other than language?
Actually they can make it worse and it'll probably sell better in Japan. You know how they like their animated JRPGs. 😛
^^Better than the crap we got?
The comic book-style cutscenes in the original wasn't too bad, the thing that almost ruined it for me was the music. I actually turned the volume down so it wouldn't hurt my ears. I figure if anything could change, it would definitely be that.
Too bad the same can't be said about the character models, though.
Famitsu has some screenshots of the game from last night Sega event in Japan. Looks pretty much the same as the english version.
Seems disappointing in that this game will probably treated as an afterthought there(from both SoJ and most likely the consumers), but I'm not surprised. Wonder why they bothered releasing it there anyway? They didn't bring the Rivals games to Japan. *shrugs*
I imagine it has to do with how well the Mario & Luigi series sells over there.
Who says it would have to be duo action like M&L? It just has to have some sort of action and M&L's humor and fanservice.
