XD Will Shadow be in it? Yeah, he makes any story degrade into an uncomprehensible mess.
Well I take that back. That doesn't have to be the case as long as the story has little or nothing to do with his backstory.
-Silver needs a game that suits him. Like Half Life 2 style. I mean come on, that game already sports an anti-grav gun.-
I'm sort of like Wonderbat; I'm not gonna hold my breath on this. I've never played anything from BioWare, but I'm not taking any chances.
Knowing Sonic Team, they'll stick Shadow in it one way or another. All those 12-year old Shadow fanboys/girls will love them for it.
I thought Jade Empire was an awesome game, and I've yet to see Bioware fail epically when it comes to RPGs.
And I'm also confident that Bioware would pull this off. However, I'll still remain skeptical over this.
Never played a Bioware game? Dag yo, you gotta get on that
I had totally abandoned my Star Wars love...they were able to rekindle a spark of hope (A New Hope that is !LOLOLOLOL)
...
Do they have any games I could get at Gamestop?
I also hope they won't put Shadow in this, at least as a major character. Shadow just makes a game's plotline even worse with his overly complicated backstory. I can't believe ST made whole game on his past, only to reveal the real anwser at last few minutes of the boss fight. I'm surprise they didn't put him in Rush.
IGN has an interview with BioWare about the upcoming Sonic game. Seems they are very focused on this game, which I know will make everyone happy.
Hey Craig. I just wanted to say I apologize for my hasty, half-asleep response.

ZOMG!! Sonic RPG-
*scream*
eh. that Bioware interview didn't say much. But they did say awsome story and compelling characters. That makes meh smile more than a happy meal.

Even though it's an RPG, which I personally don't think is a great genre for Sonic (Maybe Knuckles), I am very happy that we are possibly going to have a high-quality well-received Sonic game. It's a shame it's on a DS, and not a console, for if it was on a console, we could have a much bigger and fleshed out above-average game.
Looks like I'll possibly have to buy a DS now.
yeah. i don't own a DS and i'd much rather play a Sonic RPG on a console. But oh well. I need something for road trips.
Bigger isn't always better. We know this from past games. Like Sonic Rush and Sadv. 3 compared to Sonic Heroes and ShtH. But i'm sure he game will still own. Hopefully...

Yeah. It would just be nice to have another above-average Sonic game on a console.

Meh, it sounds like PR talk to me...actually the whole interview sounds like it. The awesome story and "compelling characters" would SUCK if they treated this game like Final Fantasy or Xenosaga and not like the Mario RPGs. Again Sonic shouldn't be dramatic or serious like your average RPG for teens and older. "Compelling" makes it sound like they want to do drama about a 3 foot blue hedgehog.

Just because a game is on a handheld and not on a console doesn't mean it cannot be big and fleshed out. See the myrad of RPGs from the GB era to PSP. :-p
Me and Deus just aren't handheld people probably.

Someone should of told that Sonic Team awhile ago. They've been trying to make each mudane storyline epic, but keep falling flat. But I agree, the best Sonic game stories are the simple ones. I actually prefer S3&K's emerald altar scene and the Sonic CD's anime sequences than any scene from the 3D games. Sonic Rush also had the right idea, it had a simple storyline that didn't take itself too seriously and didn't really cause any continuity problems in the series(before Sth2006's confusing revelation). It also had Eggman as the main villian, yay!
Everyone poo-pooing this because it's on the DS...give it a chance. The DS isn't the most popular system right now for nothing. :3
I have no qualms about it being on the DS, but I bet there are more people out there beeyotching that Bioware is making a Sonic RPG of all things.
If Bioware is given complete and total control over this game, it has a decent shot at being pretty awesome.
If Sonic Team retains control in any way, that chance plummets. IT PLUMMETS.
"He's probably over at Bioware right now, face pressed up against the glass."
-- forum member BlazeHedgehog of the GHZ, regarding Sonic Team member Takashi Iizuka's stated interest in crafting a Sonic Rpg and his ability to influence game development involving Sonic the Hedgehog.
Sonic Team might still be in charge of the game's story and script ;.;
4KIDS IS IN CHARGE OF VOICE ACTOR CASTING
Word. Ok I'm done . Someone tell me what its like. I'm not dealing with those voices.
Um, it's DS.
If there's voices at all, think Sonic Rush, not Sonic Adventure.
As long as Vector or Cream doesn't apeear, whatever.
Well, I hope they ARE in the game. D=<
Me too!...Well as long as Cream doesn't talk much. Or at least not loudly. Vector's 4kids voice makes me laugh. But yeah since its on the DS I think the voices will be restricted to phrases oo.
You know, I kind of hope they go with a 3D Blast/Flicky Island set up here. An Isometric view and you move around with the stylus. Just take 3D Blast and add dialog and side quests and BAM. Solid Gold.
I dislike moving around a map using the stylus. It was cumbersome in Magical Starsign, so here's hoping it allows for d-pad control. Also, isometric... eh, doesn't appeal to me either.
I like the sound of a Sonic RPG very much. And whilst I can understand the Shadow negativity, the sheer desire for him to not be in this game in any way shape or form seems silly. As long as they don't overly delve into his backstory much I can't see why he can't be a main playable character.
Personally, I'm all for it being on the DS rather than a home console. I have a strange love for my DS atm an in particular the smaller scaled rpgs that are made for it. I've got pretty high hopes for this.
Chaos that you raise should be used as summons!
What attack would they use?
Cheese does pretty good as a living missile.
Well I think it could work like Sonic Adventure 2/Battle's way of raising a chao. The combination of chaos drives and small animals you collect during levels change the chao status and its abilities.
I just don't want to have to do them for something cool. Those emblems too me awhile to get. They should be optional.
I found this line of particular interest.

GL: BioWares RPGs are pretty grand in scope and size, something difficult to pull off on a portable system. Will Sonic RPG still feel like a BioWare game?
Greg Zeschuk: We have some of the worlds best writers and designers working on Sonic, many of whom worked on previous BioWare games. The Sonic game will definitely have all the best elements that make up a great BioWare game.
Ha! He probably should not have said that. =P
That interview doesn't tell us anything new--just the same thing that was said since the first PR. =p
Well, it did tell us that it's BioWare's writers doing the script not Sega's.

Canadian role-playing mastermind BioWare has been spilling a few beans on its upcoming Sonic game for DS.
It's both excited and apprehensive about moving into the handheld market, which marks a change of direction for a developer used to creating lengthy and in-depth tales for PC or console. But that experience won't be put to waste, as the team attempts to create a faster-paced game with a more pick-up-and-play approach - presumably so you don't miss your station and arrive in Egypt by accident while RPGing to work. (Yes, trains run there. No, don't look it up on Google).
"We plan on taking those core Sonic elements that fans love about games and incorporating them into a brand new adventure that will feature the best of both worlds: all the fast-paced action of Sonic, plus a deep and engaging storyline that will keep players on the edge of their seats," Ray Muzyka, big boss at BioWare, told Wired.
"People don't tend to spend quite as many hours in a row on the DS as they would when playing a BioWare game for console or PC, so gamers can expect the Sonic RPG to be very easy to pick up and play at length or in shorter bursts - whichever they prefer!"
Specific details are still hard to come by, but Muzyka promised all the familiar faces and elements that have made the Sonic franchise so popular over the years - as well as a healthy dose of new features and environments to freshen things up. Maybe get Sonic some new shoes.
The project was announced last month and is due out sometime in 2008. We're hoping another Knights of the Old Republic-like reinvention might be on the cards here. What do you think, reader of the news?
So what do you think?
Someone GameFAQs though, said that this interview confirmed that Eggman might be nude. O_o
Well, if you unequip all of his clothes... *shot*

Except that that was all in the first interview also.

It was? I know most of it is the same song and dance, but I don't remember them talking about the script at all the last interview. BTW, V2, you're article is pretty much a summary of the interview I posted.
Oh lol
Did your interview somehow made you think that Eggman might be nude? lol
Nope
The story will be something like this. If Sega were in charge of the writing.
One scary night Eggman comes to steal the Master Emerald AGAIN. But when knuckles tries to stop him the old fragile rock shatters into a jillion pieces. Since this event occurs on a full moon on Friday the 13th directly following a solar eclipse, the M.E shards end up being sent FLYING through time and space to fullfill some sort of evil prophecy. wooooo.
So Knuckles finds Sonic and Tails and they must find a way to go back through time to find the Master Emerald shards. Thus brining back Silver who's only purpose will be to move Sonic and the gang back and forth through time on over a dozen different occasions as they retrieve shards.
One of the M.E shards accidentally speared a chao through the head when it initially broke so now Chaos is pissed off again and will try to kill everybody though he is not considered the main bad guy of the game.
Eggman in all his awsome smartness has already built a time machine and goes through time to find the shards also. But since Eggman can't be the villian in a SONIC game anymore, He becomes demon possesed by an angry echidna shaman from Knuckles' past who is bent on total world domination, and uses Eggman's body and mind to fullfill his evil wishes.
Except Sega would never acknowledge the existence of the Master Emerald and Angel Island, much less include them as a major plot point.
What? What about the two Sonic Adventures? o_o
Besides, that plot is lacking Shadow. Any new Sonic game GOT to have Shadow and angst. 😛
Erika's right, where's Shadow and all of that angst kids love nowadays. Angst! Angst! Angst!
Shadow can be shoved into a position of dominance without actually needing a story for himself. He can just be there.
