What? What about the two Sonic Adventures? o_o
Which were, what, six years and and a dozen games ago? =p
Sonic Rivals and Sonic Riders mentioned Angel Island and the Master Emerald.
Perhaps we'll be visited by Bean and Bark O.o Two character's who haven't seen the light of day (outside of Archie) Since like, what? Sonic Fighters? And I really really wanna see Nack. >> That was my one dislike about Rouge the Bat. Nack could have easily done her role. Although I guess Sonic Team was aiming for sex appeal?
Rouge is a bumbling, Wile E. Coyote wannabe?
I don't remember Nack having any flying/gliding abilities for that matter...
My sentiments exactly, CCL, nor did he have any climbing abilities that I know of either.
Well I didn't really mean Nack had to have those exact copy-cat Knuckles abilities. Really I meant he could have fit the bill as a government agent. Of course he probably would have double-crossed at some point and all that. But thats basically what Rouge did to Eggman.
Nack as a government agent doesn't really fit into my picture of Nack, which is more of an outlaw type, not someone the government would assign important espionage jobs.
More like a petty thug.
Then again if the government offered him something he liked[jewels, gems, other precious stones], he could atleast pretend to be going on with them. So to begin with the gov't gives Nack a small amount of his "reward". A ruby[but it's fake and actually has mics and cameras and stuff in it i'm very creative right? XP] Then the gov't gets in touch w/Rouge telling her someone[Nack] stole some very precious gems. They tell her to retrieve them and promise her a grand reward. Like with Nack they give her a sapphire[fake of course just like Nack's] and they spy on both of them to see how they really are and what their actual motives are. Then Rouge and Nack meet and...
DUN DUN DUUUN!
They take over the cosmos! =] *drowned*
I thought Nack would take a job from anyone if the price is right.

He used to, but then Bob brought up the spay/neuter contract clause. Nack's been busy protecting his jewels ever since.

Sonic Riders mentioned Angel Island and the Master Emerald.
When?
In the manual. In Knuckles's profile.
The manual. Ha! Who reads nowadays?
And that is why the Harry Potter books are so successful!
Oooh Burn! God, I wish I leant that Harry Potter woman a fiver. =(
Quote:
In the manual.
I assume you also believe that silly pink girl following Sonic around is named Sally, as well?
Why yes, because Sega Europe aren't allowed to think on their own and say that Amy is in fact Amy and not Sally.
Seriously though. She's Amy in the Euro CD Manual.
Sadv1 and Sadv2 both had Angel Island Zones. That shows Angel Island exists, right?
Ummm...I think we know Angel Island exists, but umm...yea. >_> And yes JT HP should go down in history. It got kids reading again. =O And that Sally thing...is just embarassing. My gosh. u_u
Don't forget SAdv 3 last and final zones: Chaos Angel and Altar Emerald. They took place on Angel Island, too.
Don't forget Sonic Battle. Holy Summit was indeed the part that the Altar Emerald is located.
You mean "Holly Summit," right, Chao?
And Angel Island isn't even mentioned in the game, because all the areas in the game were mashed together and whatnot.
It must only be called Holly Summit in the American version, because it is 'Holy' in japan, and it's the same here in my country (New Zealand). Whereabouts in the world are you, ChaoRcute?
We in Aus got 'Holy' too. Silly Americans and their censorship.
Holly carp, tell me about it. :<
That's quite strange, because I'd only gotten "Holly" in the Japanese rom of the game with the language switched to English for some odd reason. =/
If you want some new materials about the SONIC RPG, then you should answer the poll on the left side of the official BioWare website first!!...
Not going to make a difference as it's trailing behind, but I voted anyway.
You are a loyal SONIC fan!!...
Well done!!...
O : )=

Yeah, most of Bioware's fanbase aren't the type who cares about Sonic the Hedgehog--at least the series current incarnation.
And Dragon Age seems to be a more wanted mystery title.
Yesterday : SONIC = 5%
Today : SONIC = 9%
Horray?
Maybe linking stuff does work.
But I am still waiting for any type of update. Bioware hasn't given us anything yet. Or, at least I haven't seen anything.
Maybe more info will come as soon as Mass Effect is released?
Oh and Sonic is down to 7% and is at 4th place. I doubt they will be discussing it at their next podcast--whenever that is.
Sonic is now up to 10%!!...
3rd!!...
I guess this podcast is going to be about Dragon Age, and deservely so IMHO. That game has been in the works for over 3 years.
Course, I could be wrong and this poll probably would matter in the end anyway, and the might skip over DA and just talk about Mass Effect for an hour.
Am i the only one who still likes Sonic Team's work?? I'm sure the game will be FINE. BioWare can't be all THAT bad, right? I don't think we should be judging a game we haven't seen any footage of. who knows what'll like? Chances are 2D with a hint of 3D grapchics, and a pretty decent plot, but still... And I really don't know if any of the Pre-SA Characters will be back, but you never know. I heard BioWare liked the Original Games.
And does the voice acting really matter? It's a Handheld game, there's only gonna be like, five lines per Character. I don't really care about who voices what in the games that much.
Also, no offense people, but a "Create Your Own Character" Selection sounds like a really bad idea... Think about it... Whenever you check out videos of the game on YouTube(Or where ever)you'll see them, those oh, so unoriginal Re-Colors. We don't want that in a game, do we? No, We don't, As much we'd ALL love to see the "Uber Adventures of Speeds The Hedgefox and Shonic The Echidcat".

Who said anything about BioWare being bad? Bioware is several hills above current Sonic Team in terms of quality control.

Just because a game is on a handheld, doesn't mean it can not output any voice acting or lengthy text dialogue like in console RPGs. If the upcoming DS games, Tales of Innocence and FFIV remake are any indication then more than small snippets of spoken dialogue is possible on the DS.
That said, I don't care for any voice acting in the Sonic games because I think it sucks--the English dubbing especially.

Yes.
Where can I be filled in on why everyone hates Sonic Team now? ;___; I missed a lot in my absence from here, apparently.
I can summarize it with a few games.
Sonic Heroes.
Shadow the Hedgehog.
Sonic the Hedgehog (Xbox 360/PS3).
Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis.
The first one depends, really. I like it, for instance. However, in general, most people don't like it very much. Shadow was universally panned - even when all we had was the first trailer and the very CONCEPT of Shadow packing heat, we were disgusted. Sonic 2K6 was also universally panned, despite a premise that, in all honesty, could have really, really worked if the game were in far more capable hands - in short, it tried to rejuvenate the series and reward Sonic fans for putting up with the last two games, but instead it insulted us even further. And Sonic Genesis, a GBA port of the first game, should have been good, seeing as it's a timeless classic - until Sega found a way to break every possible aspect of the game to the point where, despite being vaguely playable, you really, REALLY don't want to.
That help?
"Yes."
Thought so.

That's what i meant. In all the Sonic Handheld Games i've heard the characters say only a few certain words such as "What!?" "Yeah!" "Alright!" "Oh, no!" and so on. I didn't mean in like the Cut Scenes they would talk or something.
And about the "BioWare being bad" thing, well... *Points at some previous posts* Doesn't look like people are completely excited that a different place is making the game, that's all.
EDIT: Sorry. Still can't pull off Italics.
EDIT 2: "Do you had the ezcodes format option in your posts turned on?"
Don't think so... But as long as people get the idea, I'll be fine.
ChibiBecca edit: *kicks those italics into existance!*
I was annoyed with Sonic Team since Sonic Adventure 2, but I feel any full-blown hatred towards the team until Shadow the Hedgehog. That confirmed my suspicions that they don't really give a crap about quality anymore.

Something has definitely happened to the quality of Sonic Team games.
Whether it has been a mass exodus of most of the top people, tight deadlines for games that need more time or bolting on the Sonic Team logo to all games.
It wouldn't be such a bad thing if most games where missing a special something to make a good game, a great game. But the Sonic titles just aren't finished.
Phantasy Star Universe wasn't particularly great either, but it was playable.
Oh well.
Ah, yes... I see now. Thank you for explaining.
I was disappointed in SA2 also, but at least Sonic and Shadow's levels and soundtracks were good, and the cutscenes were also cool. But after Heroes, I began to lose faith, and Secret Rings and Sonic 360 did nothing to restore it.
I don't get how Sonic Team could make a beautiful game like Sonic Adventure, and then fail miserably afterwards by changing the formula over and over again. With the old Megaman games, they found something that worked, so they did it again, and it succeeded again. Sonic Adventure worked, so why did Sonic Team change? And if nearly everything has failed after SA, why haven't they gone back to SA's format? =

You're kidding, right? I haven't heard a bad word about BioWare or their involvement since this project was announced.

Didn't they try to, with Sonic 2006? I haven't played it, but from all accounts that had the potential to be a really good game if they'd given it more development time instead of just rushing it for release.
I think the tight deadlines factor highly into the problem, I read somewhere that they were giving them 9 months during the Shadow/Riders/Rivals/Rush era of madness.
Also, Sonic 2006 is the only game which can be stated an outright financial failure. Shadow and Heroes were both chart toppers on the Gamecube and Xbox for some reason (at least in Europe they were), so that gives them the thumbs up.
I'm kind of shocked that after Sonic 2006 bombed so desperately they haven't regrouped and come up with a new stratergy.
...infact. It's almost 2008 and they haven't even announced the next mainstream Sonic title. Perhaps they did?
I think they are rethinking what to do with the series now. While they don't have any major titles in the public eye.
Hopefully the meetings are something like this: BIG TALK (S-bomb warning)
Sonic Heroes was very popular on the PS2 as well. A Good couple of months in the PS2 top 10.
In Heroes defense, at the time of release it was greatly hyped by SEGA as returning to the classic style, and the screenshots and videos weren't really saying otherwise, plus reviews weren't completely negative. What's more we didn't have too much doubt in ST at that point, while SA2 was definitely flawed it was still fun as Sonic and Shadow and enough reason to think ST could be great...
As for a new strategy, maybe that's what they're thinking with Rush and BioWare? The handheld titles are the most highly regarded after all.
It still doesn't change the fact that the 3-D games really need some work.
SA1, wasn't too bad; in fact I liked the fact that I could actually explore for once, and nothing slowed it down.
SA2 was probably a little worse; don't get me wrong, the story was fine, but it sort of went back to the old "play through the level, get your score, move on to the next thing" formula with cutscenes thrown in. I did like the level select though, though the exploration was missed.
One of my major gripes with those two titles was the camera. In the ice level with Big, the camera would arbitrarily turn up to the cieling and spin around nonstop. Every time I moved the camera, it would do the same thing. This made the already horrid fishing levels even more so.
In SA2, the camera was a little better, but I don't think the controls were. I could launch a Homing Attack at an enemy floating over bottomless space and fall right to my death; it wouldn't matter if I was holding the analog stick in the right direction.
Sonic Heroes was where things got ridiculous. Moving around in the special stages for me was next to impossible. Try to move left and you go further the opposite way! That really ruined the game for me, even more that randomly falling to my death while RUNNING through a loop.
I've always liked the 2-D games better. Aside from the classic games and Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (which really wasn't very good), I enjoyed playing all the Sonic Advance titles and Sonic Rush. I don't remember a time where I've gotten really frustrated with them, with the exception of the Final Boss in Sonic Rush.
Sonic Rivals was okay, but it got boring for me fast.
I haven't played Shadow, and I don't plan on it, either. I mean, come on, if you're gonna give him a gun, then you've got to include some kind of targeting system and make the controls better.
S2k6 and Secret Rings I'm not to sure about, though. I'd require me to get a PS3/Xbox 360 and a Wii to play them.
I still think it's a sad day for SEGA that Sonic looks better in Brawl than in any crap they've churned out in recent years.
Kaze, I feel the exact same way on basically everything you said.
Although, I did play Shadow the Hedgehog. The whole reason why I even bought the thing in the first place was to learn about Shadow's past, and the cliffhanger that we were left with in Heroes. The thing I really hated most was the choose your own path concept. I wanted to know how Shadow would do a situation to learn about his past, not for me to control Shadow's destiny to see how benevolent or devilish he would be in said situation.
It was a step up from Heroes on game play, but it had more flaws than SA2.
