LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (May 26th, 2010) SEGA ® Europe Ltd. & SEGA ® America, Inc. today announced Sonic ™ Colours, the new high-speed adventure of our famous hero Sonic the Hedgehog. Struggling with saving a colorful alien race fall into the clutches of Dr. Eggman, Sonic will face many obstacles along an inspired sci-fi themed amusement park. Sonic Colours will be available on Wii ™ and Nintendo DS ™ at the end of 2010.
A unique playground has been seen orbiting the planet of Sonic the Hedgehog. Some rumors speak of an alien race called wisps, with a rare colored energy, which is now imprisoned here, by the evil Dr. Eggman. Sonic, once arrived on the planet's entertainment, you can use immediately made aware of this rare power to help colored wisps in the escape! The Wii version of Sonic Colours combines both 2D and 3D gaming perspective, while the Nintendo DS version takes advantage of the characteristics of the double-screen console.
"The lively alien universe of Sonic Colours allows players to race at breakneck speed along amazing planets, each with its peculiarities and unique visual style." Comment on Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing SEGA. "In addition to classic Sonic gameplay, new power-wisps, they offer an innovative way to explore these new worlds and help Sonic to run faster than ever!"
The new Sonic hedgehog Colours see our dear speeding, jumping off himself among enemies like never before in a Sonic game. The aliens WISPs are able to free their "Colour Power" that can be absorbed by Sonic drilling to create new roads, for example, the ground (via the Yellow Drill), or go through the whole internship at supersonic speed (thanks to Cyan Laser). Combining the different available energies can further increase the speed of Sonic and his abilities beyond imagination. Lots of power ups and exclusive versions will be available for Wii and Nintendo DS for a brand new super-fast gameplay of Sonic for fans around the world.
Sonic Colours will be available on Wii â„¢ and Nintendo DS â„¢ at the end of 2010.
Well this was unexpected. Sonic Galaxy anyone?
Beat me to it.
colors? cute things?
i must have it! this is the most perfect sonic game!
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa <rolls on flowers> i sooooo gotta have it, this is better than sonic 4, is there more detail or pictures about it?
finally sonic being cute again, even tails looked happy in that video.
This is Sonic Team's double down against Sonic 4? A highly colourful version of Sonic Rush or the day half of Sonic Unleashed?
I don't know about this one. I'm operating on the presumption that it is indeed Sonic Team producing this and I'm already wondering what luckless, expendable sap they've put in charge of the team. I'll reserve any irrational exuberance or blistering condemnation for when I know the names behind this project.
What is it with drugged aliens always wanting to invade Sonic's world?
shadonic! i click on it but i cant go to eggman's carnival? add a better link
"I don't know about this one"
have faith! its really cute this time. and you know, i played a coloring game on the DS called color for life or something like that, anyway it was a very fun game where you need to collect colors from stages to color the towns and world. i think this sonic game took from that idea.
sonic has been taking different game types "racing, boxing, fighting, sports....", hopefully they'll be karoak and dancing sonic games next! those are the ones i'm interested in.

Well you can always click on the Sega blog link that take you the game's site.
Btw anyone thinks this could take place before Unleashed? I mean Sonic was already in space when that game began so maybe this the prelude that game.
I like it.
You guys should trust me. My vibes about Sonic are generally right. 😛 I was among the very few who recognized SonicNEXT would be crap from the first trailer and information.
This is the opposite of that first SonicNEXT trailer, in that rather than being SA3 with inappropriately stoic robots, it is going more in the whimsical direction, and what little they've said about the aliens suggests that they will have some interesting gameplay effects. This won't be the return to S3&K style that I want more, but it could be a good game in its own right.

Well, yeah, it's cute, but that's not particularly a selling point for me. We've only seen some 20 seconds of pastel-coloured Sonic and Tails running whimsically about with a bunch of wisps, and that's it. To come to the conclusion that this is already better than Sonic 4 is fanciful when we haven't seen a single gameplay aspect of Sonic Colours in action yet.
At first I thought those thingies were Chao, but guess I was mistaken. I wonder if there will be a Wisp-raising game as a Chao-expy?
Also the plot reminds me a lot of Sonic 1... IN SPACE.

Vec: You guys should trust me. My vibes about Sonic are generally right. 😛
HAHAHAHA /wild dog

iii.Where have we seen this before...
I like it.

Er... Sonic Heroes??
The Official Nintendo Magazine will have 6 page preview of the game on June 16. Just in time for E3 2010.
thats just it, its like sonic blast's flickies and sonic 1's animal rescuing story and sonic heroes fun music.... its all the cool bits i wanted in one game. its like i was saying in the where's the flickies thread, a cute sonic game about cute animals XD waaaaaaaaaa sonic team must've read my mind.

im so gald an obvious smart person like you agrees.
and i wont worry too much about the game play, sonic doesnt really fail that too much. its just the story it goofs and this time the story is fun sounding.
When I saw the title I expected Mario Paint but with Sonic. And aimed specifically at toddlers. Sonic Schoolhouse 2 if you will. I guess I'm glad it's not but... we'll see.
Well....if it's simple fun a la Secret Rings then why not. The vid has its charm, though I kind'a miss the Chao.
You know as nice and flashy that trailer looks, and the optimistic feedback most have already posted. I can't shake this unnerving feeling that this tread is missing something...

Simple "fun" like Secret Rings; if that would be the case I would not want. Thankfully, though, I don't think it will be an onrails game. I like the theme though.

You mean the Sonic cycle pic or Ashide's pessimistic views on the game?
They're dropping the dark grittyness from the series in the most positive way possible. That is a good thing. All the main titles have been pretty depressing of late (Shadow with it's guns, 2006 with it's realism, Unleashed with it's "horror" aspect). Plus the aliens kind of look like a cute mix between Nightopians and Chao.
I'm not going to Sonic Cycle this and say YAY BEST THING EVER and I'm not fandumbing it and saying RUINED FOREVER AGAIN either.
I shall simply say, intriguing and promising.
I am fond of the Eggman poster.

Bingo
Well. might as well see how this will end. So far it's an intresting concept and I hope that it has a clear singular goal in mind and not bogged down with crazy extras.
-[026] Days without Ashide's Pessimistic Views on Sonic Colors-
LOL, I haven't seen Ashide in awhile, but if nothing else, she'll be here just to say how horrible it will be!
Er... Sonic Heroes??
Which I like, and while it has major polish and recycling issues still has the strongest fundamental mechanics of any 3D Sonic.

You forget that nearly everything she complains about is a legitimate issue with the game.
However, there isn't anything negative about this yet, other than it sounding like it's trying to be Galaxy, and it's nice that SEGA is aiming high in its cloning rather than, say, having Shadow with a gun.
The positives:
It's cute and totally in tune with its cute nature with no signs of the identity crisis Sonic has had since SA
The art direction is strong. That zone is spectacular and it's the ideal green eyed yet pudgy Sonic.
A planetary theme park is a great setting for a Sonic game (Chaotix, remember), and a suitably camp Eggman plot that happens to involve animals (the poster is win)
The aliens will act as power-ups with some sort of combo system, which could add some depth and path finding
It claims to be a combo of 2D and 3D
The whole presentation gives me the idea that the people behind it might understand what they are doing, which is unusual for a Sonic preview
Really? More aliens in Sonic?! I had enough of the aliens when you turned the Babylon Rouges into them! Also seems to be an obvious, "Well Super Mario Galaxy was good let's try that." type thing. Although I suppose I'll withhold official judgement until I actually play it.
I see the same Sonic that's been in the 3D games that we hate, with the same gameplay style (of course with those wisps things) just with a more whimsical story.
I think before I can ever really make an opinion on it, I'd need to play the game. Looks like its gonna be a while before that happens, though.
I dont understand why their releasing it at the same time as S4, or even announcing it right now. Shouldn't this be, kinda a dead giveaway that we likely wont have much to look forward to? I mean, think about it... Sega is working on 2 projects at once. One started development much earlier. They are both releasing at the same time. This could SERIOUSLY down-grade the quality of "Colors", and inflict some damage on S4 as well.
You forget that nearly everything she complains about is a legitimate issue with the game.
Well, true, legitimate in her and many others view, but still sometimes, she just seems to be negative on things just to be negative, not that caution is bad thing mind, but...

While your caution maybe justified, you're assuming that Colors hasn't been in development just as long as Sonic 4 but they just kept a tighter lid on it.
Cause Lord knows they haven't done the same with Sonic 4! XD;
Exactly, lol!
Speaking of Sonic 4, how about that game, eh? Colours sucked all the air out of that game, like Sega wanted everyone's attention somewhere else.
The esteemed ArchangelUK confirms ST is producing the Wii version and is working in conjunction with Dimps for the DS version. Dimps is quite busy these days.
Dangit. Everytime I want to play a Sonic game thats Wii exclusive I have to mooch off my cousins. I think I might as well buy one. Stupid Wii Exclusives...
Lol those aliens look pretty cool...kind of pokemon-ish. Not that I mind. It makes me long for chao though.
Really? More aliens in Sonic?! I had enough of the aliens when you turned the Babylon Rouges into them!
but swanson, sonic is an alien.
he is from a planet other than earth so he might as well have stories with other aliens like him.
"Lol those aliens look pretty cool...kind of pokemon-ish. Not that I mind. It makes me long for chao though"
closer to monster rancher in my opinion or like craig said nightmarians, you do get a sense of pleasnet familiarness to them.
about the gameplay isnt there coloring included?

No, Sonic is not an alien, he is from an alternate reality earth; besides, even if he was, they would still be aliens to Sonic just as we would be aliens if we invaded another planet. Also according to the solicit there is not coloring just the different colored Wisps gives you different powerups like a drill or laser.
What Ray said. The planet Mobius is a purely American creation.
Sonic games have always taken place on Earth. Ergo, Sonic is not an alien.

My dear boy, one does not normally polish turds, also try playing 50Hz version of heroes and say that "strongest fundamental mechanics of any 3D Sonic" with a straight face.
Also so much judgement from a prerendered cutscene and usual sega PR blurb for a Sonic 3d 2, which will probably be in essence a mod running on the werehog engine for wii and these Wisps being replacements for powerup monitors.
Though Eggman looks as spectaculer as ever, yet the predictable "tries to harass power of X and it all goes wrong" story will be likely
I AM UNSURE.
BUT I WANT THAT EGGMAN POSTER ON MY WALL.
Gameplay wise it just sounds like Sonic Rush/Unleashed Daytime. But storyline is perfect.
I wonder if Sega are splitting up Sonic releases based on guessing who owns what:
Wii/DS - Kids like the Sonic Rush gameplay so we develop a game based on that engine.
PS3/360 - Teens/Manchilds like momentum based gameplay, puzzles and tits.
It's only for the Nintendo consoles, not the 360 or PS3.
Exactly.
At least the PS3 is getting Sonic 4...these Nintendo exclusives are getting annoying. Can't say really anything about the game but maybe it'll be good?
Read title. Thought we were getting Sonic edition Wii and DS consoles. Got excited. Entered thread. Read post. Dissapointed. Re-read. Interest rebuilt. Status: Catiously optimistic.
Thats exactly what I thought, too. Then I read, and I got interested. But Im just thinking it'll be exactly the kind of Sonic game we spend our many freetime hours constantly complaining about, here.
Colors is being developed by Storybook division and is meant to be geared toward the younguns.

LOL, that's what I was thinking at first too! Was gonna kinda be mad if it was true.
So no Sonic and the Wizard of Oz then? Ah well. An educational Sonic game for the younger crowd. Not sure if want now.
Sonic and the Wizard of Oz
Sonic in a blue plaid dress?
...
Proceed.
too bad it wont have coloring included in the gameplay. but from reading that preview from rayzor's link i'm happy to learn about the point and click idea it's fun sounding, also making the game for younger audiance is what i was hoping for. i dont like complicated stories and scary characters like in the new sonic games so this sonic game is gonna be pure fun to play.. oh i hope its easy too, i'm getting frustarated not finishing sonic games.
and dont worry about it being for younger kids, i played a lot of fun kids games, this is gonna work great for sonic
My idea was "Sonic and the Lord of the Rings" or "Sonic and the One Ring"
I too thought this nwas a Mario Paint type game upon hearing about it that first day. Then saw the trailer and whatnot...i'm kinda interested. I think it's cool that Tails is included...like mentioned in the lead up to the game. And another new planet to explore...i'm game. 😛
I just saw Nintendo Power issue with Sonic Colors on the cover at outlet game store. Seems the Wii version uses the same graphics engine as Black Knight did. One stage has giants donuts with sprinkles on it as part it design while another look like a castle similar to the one that appear in Sonic Heroes. DS version is in 2D and looks pretty much like Sonic Rush games. The HUD even looks similar. Couldn't read article pretty well (because I wasn't supposed to read the magazine on the store), so I can't be sure of what new and what stay the same. There also an interview with Izuka as well. Gotta say the game does look interesting from what I saw.
