This deserves its own thread.
Sega has trademarked "Sonic Gems Collection", logo and all. Most have reasonabley assumed that this will be some kind of Sonic Mega Collection follow-up. So taking this ASSUMPTION and running with it, here's my WISH LIST.
Sonic CD - The Crown Jewel
I think I can safely say that Sonic CD is the game people want the most. If this is a port collection I will be very surprised if Sonic CD is not in there. I hope and pray that both soundtracks will be included on the game in all regions. The lack of the original JP/EU soundtrack would be absolutely unforgivable, I can't even bear to play the PC version any more, which only features the US soundtrack.
If Sega include BOTH sountracks on all regions then it would appeal both to people who want the familiarity of what they already know and those who want to experience something new as well.
The Next Big Three
The next three games in most demand would be Chaotix, Sonic the Fighters and SegaSonic the Hedgehog. SegaSonic the Hedgehog is the mythical holy grail of the series considering how limited the original arcade release was (strange considering it was at the peak of Sonic's popularity), I would be floored and very very happy if it got ported.
Miscellaneous Games
Anything else would be a bonus. Personally I'd love the Saturn version of Sonic 3D because it had awesome Special Stages (the best in the entire series I'd say) that were absent from the otherwise identical PC version and the original inferior Mega Drive version. Sonic R is also a possibility.
It would take absolutely zero effort to throw in the six Game Gear games that were absent from Sonic Mega Collection Plus. I hope they do because I absolutely ADORE Tails Adventures and I don't want to have to collect 130 emblems in Sonic Adventure DX to play it on my TV screen.
The Sonic World section of Sonic Jam would be a nice bonus if possible.
Neo Geo Pocket Colour's Sonic Pocket Adventure would be very welcome too.
Obscure 80s Arcade Games With Ties to Sonic
I hope that Sega take this opportunity to port bonus arcade games that have ties to the Sonic series.
Flicky - The classic arcade game that debuted the beloved bird character, Sonic Mega Collection only featured the vastly inferior Mega Drive version.
Bloxeed - A Tetris-style arcade puzzle game featuring Flicky.
Sanrin San-chan - Tricycle San (aka Spatter in the US) - From the same character designer that created Flicky, the heroine, San, is the character the Chao design was based upon. Check it out: home.graffiti.net/icecap/sanchan.gif
Dynamite Dux - Starring Bin and Pin, the characters who Sonic the Fighters' Bean the Dynamite was based upon. There was also a vastly inferior Master System version with a slightly different plot.
Extras
A save game feature is a must. Time Attack and Special Stage extras like those in Sonic Jam would also be nice.
Sonic Jam pretty much set the standard for bonus material. At the very least I'd like to have complete instruction manual scans for all regions included in all regions. One of my favourite things about Sonic Jam was being able to look at both Japanese and US instruction manuals.
A movie theatre is a must. It should include as many TV ads as possible, the Sonic X promotional pilot, the FMV intros/endings from Sonic CD (with both sountracks), Sonic 3D (Saturn/PC version) and Sonic Jam and all of the miscellaneous movies from Sonic Jam (the strange cartoon, the Sonic Ride etc).
An UBER soundtest featuring all of the music on the collection would be fanatstic.
I'm a big fan of concept art. I'd love as much as possible.
Sonic Jam had an in-depth history museum covering the release dates of every game, with box art from all regions and other significant Sonic related events. This needs to be updated.
Character profiles and story prologues would be welcome. Perhaps even official translations of the story sections in the Japanese Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 official strategy guides.
A collection of promotional artwork is always an expected extra, it'd be nice to see some of the rarer stuff.
So this is what you were talking about earlier? Wow I can't wait to hear more about this. This might be great news. I'll surely be looking forward to this in the future. Thanks for filling us in VCP.
*crosses fingers*
Here's to hoping.
I'm actually more excited/intriuged about 'Gunstar Super Heroes' being registered...
You know now that I think about it...this has to include those rare games so to speak. I mean we've basically had a total of 4 Collections(including SADX) on the newest gen consoles, not including those many compilations on the PC. If Sega barfs out another mega collection i'll be pretty pissed, well no...very pissed. I would take playing SCD(w/all the JPN/Us stuff including) over a new game at all. From what I here SCD would last me a good while. And that would only be one game of the Collection...Fighters would be a paradise, and Chaotix would be a game to show off to my Knuckles loving friends here at home. Sega please, gosh. *prays*
What I anticipate:
As for Gunstar Super Heroes, it wouldn't surprise me, considering Sega and Treasure worked together on Astro Boy (the GBA game; is supposed to be REALLY FREAKING GOOD), and that Treasure's kind of dropped the ball on their "no sequels" policy with Advance Guardian Heroes...
sounds like a puzzle game to me.
And they'd put "Collection" at the end of a puzzle game, because...?
Because there's more than one in there?
Seriously, I do hope it's another good ol' port pack but my money's on a Sonic themed Monkey Ball type thing. Or even to an even more insane (read stupid) degree, a compilation of Special Stages. Or maybe a Sonic style Puzzle Fighter/Columns hybrid with a bunch of different "modes" hence the 'collection' moniker...
If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. And a Sonic CD, Chaotix, Fighters, Arcade, type deal is almost too much a dream come true to be possible.
However I wouldn't mind being terribly wrong.

Sonic CD's a given, but it'll probably only have the US soundtrack.
Let's hope that Sega know better than to do that. If they include both soundtracks in all regions then everyone is happy.
Quote:
Sonic 3D? Why bother? The game's already on the market with SMC, to port it again for the same console would be to detract sales (yes, I doubt it's detract MUCH sales since I doubt many people are buying that collection for S3D, but undoubtedly SOMEBODY out there would be), or just be redundant.
The Saturn version has vastly improved graphics, a new FMV intro and endings, a new soundtrack (a damn good one at that) and new Special Stages (the best ever). The PC version is the same as the Saturn version, except that it has different (VASTLY inferior) Special Stages. I think it's worthy of a port. Sonic Mega Collection Plus contained both Mega Drive and Game Gear versions of Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on the one disk.

Sonic Jam... now THAT would detract sales
Nobody's seriously expecting a port collection to contain another port collection, but the SONIC WORLD section of Sonic Jam is a viable mini-game in its own right.

They're making a game starring Shadow with a gun. I'm not too trusting of them nowadays.

Yes, but then again, beyond the great special stages (and yes, they ARE great, I own the Saturn version too), it's the same game under a much prettier coat of paint.
Then again, maybe my having played the PC version first explains why I actually kinda like 3D Blast: Flickies' Island...

True. It's a bit limiting a section (I kinda blew through it in a day, and subsequent run-throughs haven't been that entertaining), but it MIGHT be interesting... IF they can be bothered to separate it from the rest of the game.
well we can only hope sonic will do us good and port the games properly, i shudder to think of what playing sonic 3d could be like if it was done in the manner of JSR;A *shudders*
...uh... What does Jet Set Radio have to do with anything?...
Wait, you mean the GBA port? Well, in S3D's defense, IT wasn't designed with 3D in mind and THEN ported to inferior hardware. As in, you won't have your view obscured very often. Other than that, I fail to see why Sonic Team would truncate their games like that.
Although, that is an interesting point... maybe this is a GBA/DS/PSP collection and not a GC/PS2/Xbox one? Just a thought.

If it is I will scream...
Come on E3, i want to know more...
I'd like (assuming the game would even be made, and that it's going to be another collection) to see more Sonic Jam style extras, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was more in the style of Mega Collection. Either way, finally including those illusive arcade games would be great.
Even though it's nothing concrete, it certainly would explain why there were only 6 of 12 Game Gear games on Mega Collection Plus, though.
As for obscure Sonic related games, howsabout Rad Mobile? It was Sonic's first ever game appearance after all.
Rad Mobile...never heard of it. Or have I? Is that the one with the messed up looking sprites. lol With Ray and stuff. I think i've seen it or heard of it.
Gale Racer (the one you're thinking of) had many Sonic cameos (including Ray) and was a Saturn port of Rad Mobile, a racing arcade game released before Sonic 1.
Rad Mobile only had a little Sonic hanging from the wing mirror, but it was his first video game appearance. Sort of.
Eh, I'll only buy it if it has a couple of arcade games I've never played, plus Chaotix. And Sonic CD, which I really hope will be on there.
Ever notice if you fuse Rad Mobile and Gale Racer, you get Rad Racer? All I can say to that is 20X6'D!.
No comment on Gale Mobile. Wouldn't surprise me if PBG actually had one.
Along with all those other games VCP listed, I also want Sonic Pocket Adventure to be included in this list of games, if there was ever such a thing. Having never gotten the chance to play the game myself, since I lack a Neo-Geo Pocket or even the game, this would be an added treat.
What I want the most are Sonic CD and Chaotix, but that should still be included as well, seeing as it's never been ported on any console.
Basically I agree whole-heartedly with VCP, but there are a few more extras I'd like to see, including the video footage of Sonic Xtreme (mainly because every time I find a downloadable file of it, it never works) and info and scans of Fleetway's Sonic the Comic and the Japanese comics aswell.

I didn't forget. =P
Sonic Pocket Adventure is a pretty neat game, better than most of the Game Gear games. It's a strange amalgamation of the 16 bit games. It's not much of a new experience, but it's amusingly bizzare seeing all these different elements thrown into a blender.
The hidden jigasaw pieces were a great idea. It works like the hidden Chao in Sonic Advance 3, once you find one it's gone "forever", only afterwards you have to create complete pictures out of the jigsaw pieces.
And Flicky, Ricky, Pecky, Pocky, Cucky and Picky appear in the ending. =D
Really, after including all the Genesis Sonics in the Mega Collection, what do they have to offer in another collection if they don't include all four (Sonic CD, Chaotix, StF, and SSA). I'd have a hard time calling it a collection with only one or two of these games.
Unless this is something dumb like a collection of the more recent Sonics (Adventure and Advance), but how likely is that?
I'm fairly interested in the Gunstar Super Heros rumor. I've wanted to play the original for a while, now. Has anyone here played it?
I have. You're missing out. You should get it ASAP, be it ROM or the actual game (which isn't all that expensive, only about the price of a PS2/Xbox/GC budget title, nowadays), or whatever; it's really good. And it's no rumor... it's actually been trademarked. AFAIK.
It's funny, we only have a logo and a name, but I'm already more interested in this that Shadow, for which we have a whole video.
I'd just be happy if this collection is all that's not in SMC (The obscure titles already mentioned).
Oh, and Gunstar Heroes kicks. Bought a Genesis for that game.
Sweet! I do hope they are the 32-bit games as well the Nights and Burning Rangers games since I never play either
. As for a video Sonic X-treme it would be better for a demo of the game. If it is a collection Sonic Team better included similar shorts and commercials like in Sonic Jam.
Then again knowing Sonic Team, they might be making a game where the Chaos Emeralds have arms and legs and Sonic and co. have been kidnapped and they must save the world from Eggman .
Am I the only one who's wondering if Sonic Eraser is going to appear in this game?
Quote:

too bad there has never been a playable demo of the game, and i dont think sonic team is gonna finish a demo of a game they hardly had anything to do with *my bad they arent even sonic team anymore*
Yeah, I'd like to add to that list!
SONIC ERASER
WAKU WAKU SONIC PATROL CAR
(this had a nice car model to sit in, perhaps a virtual version should be included)
SEGA SONIC COSMO FIGHTER GALAXY PARTOL
(same as above)
On top of that, I believe a 'Super Smash Bros Melee' Trophy system should be included, with the 3D models from several of the games, and all new 3D models for the collection.
Stuff like the 'Battlebird Kukku' and 'Witchkart' would make nice trophies, along with some decent text to go with it.
Locations could include 'Hidden Palace' and 'South Island', with brief descriptions of them, also clearing up some facts...such as "Unfortuatley, after Eggman discovered the location of this Emerald sanctuary, Knuckles decided to relocate the Master Emerald to it's original Shrine"
I'm not saying that's what happened...I'm just saying that's what the writing could be like
Maybe some info on the new 'Sonic DS' and 'Shadow the Hedgehog' (game) would be nice...maybe...
I hope it will be availible for all consoles, because it seems highly likely.
I'm a Gamecube kinda guy myself...and I'm happy as long as it's on at least 2 of the three major consoles.
(in my case...anything but XBox only)
Perhaps a good Storyline analysis could be included, with a good Narrator, telling the overall story of the Sonic games from 'Sonic 1' up to 'Sonic Battle', with cut scenes from the relevant games included...

am i the only one who doesnt want mediocre ports of mediocre games that took advantage of the sonic franchise? dont get me wrong, knux chaotix, segasonic arcade and sonic fighters sound great, but these little knockoffs i am completely against as a major point, maybe as like an easter egg or something little extra bit, but i dont think they could hold their own together in a collection...
*EDIT: I realize i've been pretty pessimistic about this whole topic, but i dont mean to be, its just that i only see bad coming from more and more collections, there is always stuff left out that we ask for and are ready and willing to fork over more money for, and Sega can take advantage of this...
Quote:

Two words: Sonic Spinball.
...........................................
I think that most likely this will be on a handheld system.
Gems = small
handheld = small
Hmm, just a guess. O.o
I'd definately want to see Sonic CD and Chaotix on it. Sonic CD was one of the better of the 2D games shining just paler than S3K's magnificent radiance. Chaotix was fun, not the best thing ever but it had crap circulation (also they're running out of things to put on collections. Besides the fact that there's NOTHING LEFT, what else would they put on it besides what fans have been foaming at the mouth for?)
Quote:
WAKU WAKU SONIC PATROL CAR
WTF? O_o Does that even count? ... You sit on it.
Quote:
WTF? O_o Does that even count? ... You sit on it.
It was a children's arcade game with a moving cabinet.
You can't really port kiddies arcade ride machines to a console. Maybe include the videos in a movie theatre (like the "Sonic Ride" in Sonic Jam) if the footage still exists, which I very much doubt.
According to GHZ, even though you sat in it, there was still an actual game involved that you could control with a steering wheel, that's what I meant by having it on the collection, with the rest of the 'ride' being shown in a cockpit style view.
otherwise, the Waku Waku patrol car could simply be another 'trophy' to be included in the collection, like I said earlier...
Anyway...i guess that rules out my other ideas as well...
What about Sonic Schoolhouse?
Quote:
The PC version is the same as the Saturn version, except that it has different (VASTLY inferior) Special Stages.
And lacks some background effects on the Final Boss fight, oddly.
Hmm - if you think about it there's XX games not on SMC or Sonic Jam
1) Sonic CD
2) Knuckles Chaotix
3) Sonic 2 Game Gear
4) Sonic Spinball Game Gear
5) Sonic Triple Trouble
6) Tails' Adventure
7) Tails' Skypatrol
Sonic Drift 2
9) Tails and the Music Maker (Pico)
10) Sonic Schoolhouse (Pico) (was that the other one?)
11) Sonic 3D Blast
12) Sonic R
13) Sonic the Fighters
14) Sega Sonic Arcade
15) Sonic Pocket Adventure
16) Sonic Eraser
There's a few more - but that's plenty enough to make another compilation. I'm sure i've touched upon what everybody else has said - but surely you can get another decent sized compilation out of that. And the cameo games? Why not? SMC had Comix Zone and The Ooze. Don't forget Soleil - that had Sonic's first talking cameo (well in text format anyhoo)
Who can see this making the list, knocking out rare games in order to keep the series "Current" and varied.
