I can say one thing though, I 've played a UK PC version of Sonic CD and it had the american music, how come nobodis ever pointed that out before...
Up untill Gems came out I always thought that WAS the japense version of the music, as everyone said that we HAD the japense version...
ALL PC versions of SCD had the Nielsen soundtrack, even Japan's. Only the original Mega CD versions had the JPN tunes.
I finally got a copy of this. Sonic R = most fun game ever.
Ged damn this dang game! I enjoy it, and have been playing it every day since I got back from DW's (without unlocking a single boss battle demo, what the heck is up with that?), but they're not making it easy for me to enjoy, I tell thee that.
First off, which poindexter at Sega decided to make the Game Gear titles be "open 20 times" for the museum items, where the MULTIPLAYER games are 5/10 only. I don't particularly want to play Sonic 2 once, let alone 10 times for 140 minutes.
*Sighs*
All in all, though, the 3 games worth buying the game for are worth playing, and I'm loving the remixes (currently I have all 3 Sonic CD remixes, Sonic Boom Remix = Win!).
The lack of 60MhZ meant that the Sonic CD ending was jerky and unwatchable. I had to dig out my Saturn for a taste of sweet Jam, with added Cosmic Eternity.
By the by, anyone else find it hugely ironic that the Game Complete secret for CD is the UK box-art? Seeings as Sega went SO cheap on us that we never even got unique box-art for the UK version (well, the Gamecube version has "Sega CD" and the white Saturn logo on; the PS2 version had the sense to crop them off) and we never got our manuals either, which means no "really awesome middle-pages pic of Sonic and Metal fighting over Netherlake"
Fighters is unbelievably awesome and worth the 15 on it's own, I absoloutely SUCK at it (DW beat me 12-1 and I have a screenshot to prove it), but I'm having fun. Unlocking things for THAT game was not a chore at all.
...
"The Revenge of Robotonic!"?!?!
Sonic R is Sonic R. The only difficulty with that game is making it last for more than 40 minutes. I'm too fresh from getting through it several times until the dang Action Replay on my Saturn would save the data. I'll get back to it.
Thank you Sega for giving us Shoulder Pad Sharp Turning! This is a good thing!
I'm too lazy for the Game Gear titles, so I'll leave them out of this, I'm just open/closing them and letting them run while I watch DVDs. An awful waste of electricity, but dang it, I want the Sonic Heroes Remix!
PS: Woo betide the person who gave me the impression that the Little Planet Jukebox let you listen to the Japanese soundtrack! I suffered unbareable disappointment when I discovered I had wasted 24 minutes of my life speeding through CD for nothing!

In other words: Best Sonic experience since Sonic Adventure 1. Well done Sega, keep this up and I might forgive you for Neilson!
i dont know about the Sonic Heroes No GTR mix really. a bit hmmm. I did like Sunshine Acid mix though or Resort Island: Bad Future.
Considering i HATE the genre, i really enjoy the Drum and Bass remix of Sonic Boom. Very very good
Dear Sega, I enjoyed Gems, I can forgive the absoloute neglect for the PAL version, however it would be very nice if you put a warning on Sonic R which says "MANUAL SAVE ONLY!!! DO NOT EXIT GAME WITHOUT SAVING MANUALLY!"
They hate me.
They really hate me.
Yeah, I noticed that too. It took me like two hours to get back all my emeralds o_O
I almost did that actaully.
Noticed something. When its snowing you can run on the water (which i assume is ice). When I did that by Accident I though "OMG they made Metal Sonic run on water with no slow down" but then same thing with Tails and he also ran on the water during snow setting.
True, but try to avoid Snow, use a Metal character or Super Sonic, and just keep doing short jumps, you'll move over the water without slowdown and no one can follow you.
This is hugely beneficial on Regal Ruins
You dont even need to do short jumps with Super Sonic. He is like J...John Tickle on Brainiac walking over custard, which anyone can do.
Has anyone else noticed glitches with the AI of some of the Metal Characters? I lapped Metal Knuckles with Sonic when I was trying (not the best word really) to earn him and it happens every now and again with Tails Doll and Metal Knuckles they just spazz out.
Its a shame really becuase I didnt need his help. I was p3ning him anyway.
Blergle. Just finished unlocking everything and I'm sort of disappointed at how much of the bounty was worth it.
As a rabid Metal Sonic fan, I have to submit that his pics are worth the effort, especially that badass pic earned from picking all 5 Chaotix members in order (which requires going in and out of Sonic 2 20 times and playing for 140 minutes. One pic is not THAT badass!)
There are 3 early concept pics earned on the last page that capture my interest, nothing as cool as those ones which hit the internet last year, but pretty cool. Sonic had a Jessica Rabbit styled girlfriend and Eggman wore a bee outfit! What the heck?!
As far as remixes go, Sonic Heroes was worth it for the quirkyness, but Livin' in the City Latin Mix and Sonic Fighters Theme (with lyrics, sung by someone that sounds ALOT like the one who did Burning Rangers ending theme) win the entire disc.
Screenshots feel like a waste of time, but I do respect a couple of them which are just not obtainable by any means (such as Sonic mid-lightspeed dash looking up at him, which is pretty awesome), Tails skidding the snowboard on Ice Cap and there's a GREAT screenshot of Eggman looking confused while 6 Chao prance around him in the Dark Garden.
Now I just have to wait another 5 or 6 days for the boss battle demos to finish and I'll have 100% completion...
I'm suprised. I enjoyed this alot more than I thought I would, so much so that I'm not whining about 8/10 hours of watching the title screen of Game Gear games
Biggest disappointment: NO XTREME STUFF! Seriously, a pic of Tiara would have made my day. I didn't need 40 pics of the Sonic Heroes cutscenes.
Now to wait for the Revolution collection which'll come out in a couple of years, all the Advance games + Arcade + Pocket Adventure + Chaotix. That's my prediction, only the Revo controller could simulate Arcade.
That's the biggest disappointment?...
Meh, I still feel very PO'd over the lack of SoR. Surprised there wasn't as much backlash over Comix Zone or The Ooze, though.
I can forgive that stuff, because I came to terms with it long before the game came out. I was disappointed with having my expectations of the museum crushed. It did have SOME nice features, but too much of it is stuff we've seen before and not interesting.
I'd have enjoyed it more if:
1. There was some Xtreme stuff in there.
2. Shadow/Rush promo. They promo'd Sonic X in DX so why not Rush? I want a Blaze pic!
3. The Sonic Fighters models being 2d, when we have perfectly good 3d spinable versions leftover from Shenmue.

What I beg for their next collection is 2d level maps. I would go to the depths of HELL to unlock those. I once owned a poster which had the entire of Carnivle Island Act 1, the entire stage mapped out. It was so kickass, if they can make digital versions of those (which would be simple), it'd make me the happiest guy ever, especially as I get to find where the heck that secret 2nd Giant Ring was in Hydrocity Act 1. I know it's there and I've spent 10 years searching for it!
Also for future museums: Xtreme stuff plz, Sonic Adventure Wallpapers (;_; at no Christmas wallpaper despite unlocking the SA1 christmas pics), Sonic 1 concept art including the Sonic's Band (another "It should have been there!")
Come on, Mr. Sega Reps who are rumoured to appear every once in a while, Gems was scrapping the barrel without digging for gold. There's tons of stuff which only us net junkies know about. Let the world see what they're missing!

That would indeed be sweet.

I second that.

Well it was meant to be an enhanced port of Fighters nothing more.

Thirded. I found that giant ring once. Once mind.
Im also surprised they didnt have a Shadow trailer on actually. seeing as Shadow is multi format there wouldnt be a problem really. Rush however DS promotion on PS2? Mind you there should have been more Uekewa work on Gems really. I dont think all of it was on there.

WHAT DO U MEAN BY THIS? The in-game models were 3D.

They've been available on the interweb for ages. SSRG used to host some back in the day.
For the record, I bought the game yesterday. Seems pretty fun. Fighters is difficult, but I guess it's just a case of learning the button combos. CD and R (slight lol) are a lot more fun than I remember, and the former's special stages seem a lot easier to handle. I had no framerate issues, minor flicker, the water colour really did not bother me for reasons I posted in an earlier rant, and the US soundtrack is actually quite good. All in all, quite a nice little purchase.

I was referring to the Museum pictures. Would have been nice to have the rotatable versions. Kind of boring to have pictures of the models posing when there are the same models in the same poses which you can look at from all angles.

?
Middle route for 1st at midpoint, inside left wall. Bottom route for 2nd, inside left wall with spring before Act 1 boss.

Having played, and beat, the game, dozens of times over, I like starting over. It's fun to go and get all the collectable things, trying new chalenges, i.e. racing with Amy. Little replay value, by butt.
I still think Sonic Jam had the best extra stuff though. The adverts were brilliant fun. I understand having the US/UK adverts would mean paying the actors, but it would still have been good. The Sonic Heroes trailer was short but interesting, the history of Sonic was terrible (far, far too short...), and the SA trailer, while lovely, we've all seen many times before. In Sonic Jam was the Hall of Fame section. Surely they could've updated that? That would've been marvellous.
The pictures from page 15 were fantastic (it was especially good to see screenshots of Waku Waku Sonic Police Car etc), and there was the odd good picture, but otherwise i've seen it before (even if they are lovely), or was utterly pointless. I felt no joy in learning that I opened 60 Sonic Heroes cut scene pictures. That was worth playing for...

Do you have any idea where they could be now?
If I can get the money from outta my bank account, It's mine!
Just finished (well, almost) a mammoth unlocking session. Only a few dribs and drabs left to get. Oddly enough, my Sonic Chaos demo starts from the beginning of the game, not the last boss.
I still need the last bits of Sonic Heroes pictures (7 Metal Sonics and 8 SEGA logos) and the 6 Christmas picture-unlocking ones. Cna anyone help me with those? As hard as I try, I can't find enough pictures.
Metal Sonic: Pic any picture with Metal Sonic in it, this includes the Sonic CD montage and versus Sonic pic, Sonic R's Japanese boxart (has Metal Sonic in the back) and Sonic Drift 2's artwork.
Should be pic numbers:
Spoilers (Select To Read) 10, 25, 39, 40, 56, 93, 160 |
SEGA: This is just CRUEL. Obvious ones like the Sonic Fighters promo add are easy enough, but the majority of them are in the screensaver selection with odd things like the mall pic, the concert pic, to the more obvious ones like the genie pic and the Sega Saturn one.
Pic numbers:
Spoilers (Select To Read) 18, 106, 118, 136, 137, 138, 139, 140 |
Christmas: This one is a bit of a tricky begger, the two that caught me offguard were the Sonic in space one, which has Santa flying in the background, and the concert one, which has a Christmas tree (aswell as that SEGA logo)
Pic numbers:
Spoilers (Select To Read) 110, 112, 122, 130, 132, 137 |
Hope that helped 🙂
Thanks. I was using the Sonic Heroes pic of Metal Sonic.
Thanks for that link Josh.
Who was it who said that the Sonic series has always been full of bottomless pits?
I think it was janucheese who called it "Sonic 101".
Also, I can only think of one real time in Sonic CD where there was any bottomless pits. And that one time was, like, the last level in the entire game.
