Levels I want to see, off the top of my head. (Wishful thinking may apply):

-Marble Zone
-Scrap Brain Zone
-Chemical Plant Zone
-Oil Ocean Zone
-Hydrocity Zone
-Ice Cap Zone
-Flying Battery Zone
-Lava Reef Zone
-Sky Sanctuary Zone
-Chrome Gadget Zone (I've felt that this always deserved to be a full-on level. Great music, awesome background.)
-Chaos Angel Zone
-Music Plant Zone
-Space Colony Ark
-Pumpkin Hill
-Twinkle Park
-Mystic Ruins/Windy Valley mix (They were technically the same area anyway, right?)
-Station Square/Speed Highway mix
-Planet Wisp (I know, I know... I just really loved that level)
-Spagonia
-Sunset Park Zone (if only for the train battle.)

Don't know if true. But supposedly these are going to be the levels and who appears in them. Apperantly, there's one stage for every console Sonic game (minus Shadow the Hedgehog, Riders, Storybook series)

[spoilers]Sonic 1 - Green Hill
Sonic CD - Stardust Speedway (Classic Amy and Metal Sonic)
Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant (Classic Tails)
Sonic 3 - Ice Cap (Classic Knuckles)
Sonic & Knuckles - Sky Sanctuary
Sonic Adventure - Final Egg (Big)
Sonic Adventure 2 - City Escape (Shadow)
Sonic Heroes - Casino Park (Modern Tails and Modern Knuckles)
Sonic 2006 - Crisis City (Silver)
Sonic Unleashed - Dragon Road (Werehog Sonic)
Sonic Colors - Asteroid Coaster[/spoilers]

You know, they said classic Sonic won't talk a while ago, but I just now wondered if the same will go for classic Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. I'd find it jarring if not.

Aww... no Modern Amy.

She probably could cameo at Final Egg along with Big...

Apparently, the Austrailian ratings board has given a rating for the demo of Generations! Also, Generations coming to the 3DS? However, I checked Gamestop this morning and found nothing about a 3DS version still doesn't mean it's not on another country's Gamestop site.

Demo available to playtest at a shiny Sonic party in LA on June 8th, so us folk heading to London next month don't get all of the convention fun!

It's been a good while since I first saw this thread and after watching videos, listening to music and reading interviews. Sega have secured their first Day One purchase from me since Rush Adventure.

I'm confident that things will turn out alright.

And Veckums, your fascination for loop-de-loops scares me a little.

Arguing on the internet 101!

When in doubt about your position, don't concede the point, just insult the other guy for having a more thoughtful response! :thumbsup

To go with that, SEGA releases hundreds of awesome games still?

I can think of Yakuza, Valkyria Chronicles and...no, it's been ages since Virtua Fighter was released, do Plantinum Games count? There's Bayanetta in that case...

Oh, Mega Drive compilations, they count right?

In all seriousness, SEGA hasn't been the great company it used to be, it's better than it was in 2005 to 2007 to be sure, but they're sadly still not paving the way to glory like they did in the earli 90s and with the Dreamcast in terms of fantastic games.

Huh, your post wasn't ported over to the other board, so I'm just seeing this now. Coincidentally, I did actually update my post like an hour or 2 afterwards and that version didn't make the jump either. Anyway, we're not arguing here, we're debating. Have some faith; I'm a man of many insults, if I really wanted to insult someone, I'd do it better then that. Although I was officially mindblown by V's explanation of the many intricisies of Loop Physics. Maybe I'm just shallow-minded.

Anyway, I find SEGA to be a woefully underrated company haunted by its failures. Everybody seems to remember them most, whereas Nintendo gets away with theirs. (Although recently people have started calling them out.) Anyway, I like to know why you specified the 2005-2007 period as the bad. True, SEGA hasn't made many hits recently. In fact, they haven't even MADE many games recently. They've been publishing other games instead, showing that even if they don't make it themselves, they know where the AWESOME is.

But anyway, SEGA was still kicking ass sometime in 2006. Between 2002-2006ish (I say "ish" because games were made in 2005 but didn't get overseas until 2006) they were on an absolute TEAR. Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller, The House Of The Dead III, Virtua Cop 3, Shenmue 2, Shinobi, Vampire Night, GHOST Squad, Nightshade, The House Of The Dead 4... can we get a HOTD4 Special too? I may be the only one here who got to play that one. And then there was Sonic Heroes, which some people may count too. Personally I thought it was good but not what I wanted to play. And that's just what I played! AND I didn't include any compilations. That's a lot of AWESOME in a small amount of time. Maybe they should have spaced that out a bit.

Not to say they weren't making good stuff in 2000-2001... because they totally were. I just chose that window because that was when SEGA dropped out of the console biz and many believed they were dead. Well, if that's the case, then they went out like a champ. It was like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all stormed SEGA's mansion and SEGA came out of the bedroom all coked up with an M-16 and totally f___ed everybody up before going down in a hail of bullets.

So yeah, they've been quiet from 2007 onwards. But really, with everything they did for the first half of the last decade, they could afford to take the rest of the time off, capping it off with Sonic Colors. They won my vote for AWESOMEST company of the decade. YOU JUST CAN'T F___ WITH THOSE GAMES MAN! THEY ARE COMPLETELY NON-F___-WITHABLE! Well, okay... Konami could possibly f___ with that. Those 2 companies run neck-and-neck for my favorites.

SEGA deserves a lot more credit than people give them.

ADD: I guess I see a pattern here. Apparently you can easily tell when I'm passionate about something (usually means I'm pissed about something) by the density of swearing. If I don't swear, I don't care.

The modern Sonic gameplay still looks terrible. So much of it is just... autopilot. It's dull.

Classic Sonic looks flawless, but it all depends on how well Sonic himself controls and whether or not Sega actually learned from Sonic 4, which was simply atrocious.

In short, half of the game looks good, optimistically hoping for improvements in the other half but realistically not expecting much. Prove me wrong, Sega.

If that list is confirmed this will be Sonic Cycle to the extreme. Are they actually dumb enough to hype up classic Sonic like this and use him for a single remixed level? Yes. But the real rage is the addition of Werehog and Big levels. BTW you did not link the correct URL.

Er, wait. It just means that they're guest characters for those levels. You don't play as them, but they factor into the level in some way (Stardust, classic Amy and Metal? Sounds like they're going to reprise the race from Sonic CD).

Scans are out. The game appear to be only 2D (Sonic Rush style). Confirm new stages exclusive for the 3DS are Launch Base (Sonic 3) and Casino Night (Sonic 2). The special stages from Sonic Heroes are back. So basically this what Sonic Colors DS was to the Wii version.

Oh god, who the hell thought THAT was a good idea? The SH special stages was one of the worst they ever crafted. If they bring it back and somehow redeem it by actually making it playable and fun then I might be okay with that... but really, they should have just brought back S3's Blue Spheres, or Chaotix's full pipe.

To be quite honest, the only reason Heroes' stages were bad was because they weren't properly constructed and too glitchy; as long as that doesn't happen then we'll just end up with something not quite so terrible. Well, it's gimmick was rather irrelevant because it was just easier completely ignoring the character switching and just stay in Speed formation and mash the B button as fast as you could. ...I guess we'll just be left with a mediocre Special Stage representation? Wait, that wasn't the point either, was it? Nevermind.

--

Also, the for reals reals REAL actual stages have been 'leaked' on Retro from a rather reliable source. You're free to look at them, and I guess the more skeptical can cherish this info with a gain of salt. First part is stages, second part is # of characters, and third part is # of total acts.

1: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=24971&st=2250&p=589828&#entry589828

Spoiler
Can't share my sources, but here's the level list for the console version.

sonic 1 - ghz (derp)
sonic 2 - chemical plant
sonic 3 - sky sanctuary

sonic adventure - speed highway
sonic adventure 2 - city escape
sonic heroes - either seaside hill / bingo highway

sonic 06 - crisis city
sonic unleashed - unknown (source didn't remember)
sonic colors - planet wisp

Go ahead and take it as speculation since I'm not citing my source, but there ya go.

Spoiler
Also, a heads up:
All the friends are in it. All of them. Even Elise. All minor roles, so don't worry.

But ALL OF THEM.

3: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=24971&st=2265&p=589837&#entry589837

Spoiler
Remember guys, it's 9 levels, 2 acts per (maybe 3, not sure), and boss stages, AND different versions for Modern and Classic Sonic

9*2*2+boss stages=about 40+.

@ scans from Nintendo Power

Dear God, it actually looks great. I can definitely see the Generations premise fitting on the 3DS; Classic Sonic = Genesis gameplay, Modern Sonic = Sonic Rush gameplay.

Great, now I have to buy a 3DS.

Sky Sanctuary.

HELL FRICKING YES.

IT WILL LOOK GLORIOUS.

Trunks has actually said that his source might be full of poop now.

So speculation can continue now.

As for the 3DS version. Only shared level is Green Hill Vs Classic Sonic feels like Sonic Rush Sonic apparently. Fanwankery Vs Dimps's wankery. Raiden Vs Shao Kahn. Soul Calibur Vs Soul Edge.Tempted.

Would laugh if a Shadow level makes it in though. Laugh then cry.

Edit: ignore me here in my cider haze.

Now that you mention it... Sonic Colors had very few pitfalls, and they were mostly on the 2D parts too. Just have to point that out.

The level designers have been getting rid of the abundance of stages that are floating over a bottomless pit and usually feature more wide open pathways to prevent falling to your death as well. Even in the handhelds, only the first Rush had 'terrible pit syndrome' where all of it's sequels have alleviated them from it. Getting anything like Altitude Limit again would be simply unacceptable.

Also unrelated to the above, the Nintendo Power scans said that the only stage both the 3DS and it's HD console brethren share are Green Hill Zone while the rest will compose of completely different stages. This will definitely leave the 3DS version from looking less like the cheaper, knock-off version and will give it some breather room to do it's own thing. It's a pretty smart move, so now people will have to buy both copies to SEGA in order to get the full experience. :crazy

Hopefully, the 3DS Modern segment stages will play more like Rush Adventure and less like Rush/Colors DS/Sonic 4.

Best not to hope for anything from DLC. Maybe they'll put a sunset in the background of Green Hill Zone and turn it into Sunset Hill Zone from Sonic Advance 3, or turn Bingo Highway into Carnival Night Zone just by changing the music or something.

Like Sonic Unleashed, Generations will have different longer title.
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/06/01/sonic_generations_3ds_in_famitsu/

The 3Ds will be called Sonic Generations: Blue Adventure and the HD version Sonic Generations: White Time and Space.
