Everyone wants Sonic in the game. Will it happen? I say it's very likely.
That would be awsome! I also would say that's it very likely.
Just because Sonic is the character people want the most doesn't mean he'll be there, or that they're even thinking about putting him in.
Of course, for all we know they could be coding him into the game right this minute, but nothing's certain just FYI.
I think too many third party characters would spoil the game, but I wouldn't complain having Sonic in there.
I guess it's up to Sega and what they want to do.
Personaly I would like to see Knuckles in the mix to, but I know even that wont happen.

Whean I heard the 'Sonic being im SSB' rumors. I KNEW they were lies because me and my little Consion finshed playing the ENTIRE story mode and NOT ONE Hegehog appered. But thean after Sega joined nintendo and seeing a t-shirt with Sonic wereing Mario cap for Mario 20 birth day last year, I wondered if Mario will do the same but wereing Sonic shoes for sonic birth day. But now, Sonic birth day passed and now he appering in a MARIO game. Sound ironic to me. Look like Mario gave Sonic a cool birth day gift. Let's PRAY Sonic don't return it. Well, this game is mainly supposed to be a Nintendo free-for-all battle royale and the company have plenty of characters that can be used for this game already without the third-parties'.
Also I remember in an intereview the most 3rd-party characters they would put in in addition to Snake would be 1-2.
Honestly, the only other 3rd party characters I could see in this game is Sonic(and only Sonic-sorry Tails, Shadow, Eggman, etc.) and Megaman(of the classic design).
There are some people who would rather see from Konami this guy:
instead of Snake despite that both originated on the NES.
I've heard rumors that another certain blue mammal might get into Brawl as well. A 1rst party character, mind you. I know they were rumors, but maybe the rumor-starter might get lucky and "she'll" be in Brawl. Oh yes, you know who I'm talking about. Here's a pic of her:
If, per say, both of the blues got on Brawl (though I doubt it) that would be pretty.....ironic, don't ya think? 1-2 more third party characters....root for Sonic's group, everyone!

Says who? Last time I checked, Masahiro Sakurai stated that only 1-2 more 3rd party characters may be in this game and I haven't heard anything official as large as 15 3rd party characters.

Well this is an obvious sign that Sega will turn the Lindbergh into a home console. And that this is desparate plot by Nintendo to use the Sonic name to promote the Go console.

Weresheep, if you're going to post outrageous claims like you have been doing, you're going to need to back them up. Claiming that the site isn't accessible, or is hard to translate, or whatever, is just a load of crap - if you're not willing to give us proper sources for this information, you're wasting our time and coming across - as Wonderbat so succintly puts it - as a tool.

I'll start by saying this: a second Sonic Riders HAS been announced. I found this one at Wikipedia (just one of the places). I'm sure you can find it in other web sites, fan or not. 'Course It won't come out for a while....

I'm pretty sure that The bloke in charge of Riders said more sequels were possible if Sonic Riders was successful. I did love Riders but I don't think it was all that big of a success.
But still. Fiver says, Dante and Cloud will be heavily rumoured.

Sonic was probably never even thought of for Super Smash Brothers Melee. Sega was in a bad way back then. They had to rely on Infrogames (Now Atari) to publish their games for a while.

I predict SSBB will be rated E10 also seeing that that rating didn't exist when SSBM was released.
All I know is whether Sonic does or doesn't (hopefully the latter) appear in SMBB, I will be buying it. It's one of the upcoming games for the Wii that make me and likely others want to purchase it.
That being said, if Sonic does appear, he almost for sure will be the only guy appearing from Sega. I only say that besuase of the 1-2 limit of 3rd-party characters. No Tails or Knuckles. Don't get your hopes up, people.
The main reason why SSBB will be rated E10 is because:
A) Comical violence.
B) Suggestive themes (farting, burping, etc.)
C) Solid Snake (he won't use guns, but that's not the point.
D) REDEAD DEATH HUMP!!!!!
So as you can see, this is solid evidence. Then again, E10 SSBB is common knowledge. ;^_^

It is also most likely that, saying Sonic DOES appear in SSBB, he would be the fastest, and one of the lightest. If this isn't true, then God knows what the hell happened.
All I know is that Diddy, Dedede, and Ridley should come in before Sonic or anybody else for that matter.
There defenitly was an interview a while back with Yuji Naka stating that Sonic and Nintendo were working together to get him into SSBM. I will never forget it! But there was no time. I remember there being a big thread on it here to.
I wouldn't like to see too many 3rd person characters...
Just a few, some of the REALLY big names. Fortunately, that list includes Sonic, mostly because of the rivalry between him and mario back in the 90's....

But besides him... Well, I wouldn't want Cloud because he just DOESNT do the entire FF series justice, and you couldn't have any OTHER FF series character so I wouldn't want one.
Megaman's a possibility.
Other than that, I'd only go for... Well, I can think of characters I like but none who 'deserve' a place.
It's a Nintendo game and it should remain so.
Enough news sites picked this up for me to dispell it automatically, but I'd like to remind that Kojima asked for Snake to be in the game, not the other way around.
I assume the possibility of other characters is through developers seeing it as an open house free advertising fest, than Nintendo attempting to generate hype. I'd expect the biggest of the offered characters (quite possibly Sonic and Megaman, if they were offered) would be sure shots, where as no one would care about the little leagues.
I'm not for the open door policy, but I'd be glad to see Sonic about.

A similar game like SSMB was....what was the name of it? It had all the Shonen Jump guys in it. What I don't get is how Goku would have a chance to lose. That just doesn't make sense to me at all.

The intro seems to be naught but added coolness for the trailer. Nobody else will get one unless a proverbial TGS video introduces another 3rd party guy in the same way.
Oh, and I fully oppose the notion that there should only be 2-3 3rd party characters. The more the merrier{stfu eggman}.
I'm with Hyper. Eggman should get his fat butt into the Egg Emperor or some BF machine and be the final boss. Then if you beat it on hard mode, he is tossed off the stage by something else. Maybe Master Hand?

Tails isn't exactly a fighter. I think he'll just be like someone in the background. Or maybe has to repair all of the stuff the Brawlers break. . But seriously, a field of combat may be like the Mystic Ruins and he'll be in the background at the workshop, using a device that alters the field of fighting. Get me?
How exaclty is ToS an 'anime game' unless you mean the fact that it has like three anime cutscenes?

There is an OVA coming out next year or something. Japanese games tend to do that, and ToS is in the Tales of series, a good series at that.
Saying there will be a release, I don't think there will be an American release. I wish they would, though.

Nintendo mentioned that the eligible characters had to previously appear on Nintendo consoles so Dante is out and since Nintendo will never recognize shoddy and unauthorized Tengen ports for the NES, you can say goodbye to seeing Shinobi appearing.
Cloud? No thank you. I rather not have this lame SE fad of FF7 whoring leaked into SSBB. Besides SE(if they ever support it) would most likely support a moogle, black wizard, or a chocobo as a playable smash charcater as far as this game is concerned.
Also, Snake already got Konami covered. Besides Simon Belmont is more deserving to appear than Soma anyway.
Bomberman is a reasonable choice though.
But with what Bomberman's become lately and all, do you really want to see that?
