The 3rd party characters that have the best chance are Sonic, Megaman, and Geno.

The way I see it, the characters that would be considered would probably only come from games that were very good to the Gamecube or any Nintendo consoles of the past. I think we have a better chance of seeing Tom Nook, Isaac, Felix, or even a Harvest Moon farmer before Sonic.

I mean, for goodness sake, one of the newcomers is Pit!

And judging by the sales of the recent Sonic games on the GCN, Sonic seems to fit the criteria.

I don't know how Nintendo thinks (but I do know how Nintendo fanboys think), but Sonic might not be on top of the list becuase of the past rivalry. Newer games wouldn't mind Sonic being there, perhaps even like it, but the hardcore and older gamers might hate it.

Wait, nevermind, they could spend all their freetime beating Sonic up...

Nah, that all the more reason fanboys would want Sonic in this game. =)

The only people who would not want Sonic in this game are people who were against 3rd party characters appearing in a Super Smash Bros. game(even Snake) and people who just hate Sonic's character reguardless of any real compnay affiliation.

And those who think all Sonic can do is run and jump and not fight. 😛

Or Sonic fans who are violently opposed to Sonic spin-offs and would rather him stick to his own games.

Anime Game--I'll classify this as a game with Anime cut scenes. Or an adaption of an OVA. Whichever works.

If another 3rd party character could make it into SSBB, besides Sonic, I'd say Rayman. He's already going to be on the Wii, so why not as a guest character in another? He could throw his fist and do the helicopter hair thing.

Maybe an alternate costume for Sonic could look like Shadow or Silver, like how Mario's looked like Wario's. And maybe they could name the teams when you put them together.

Sonic + Mario =Team Superstar or something else catchey.

Rayman + Sonic + fighting game = Must buy. And he can tranform into different forms like in rayman 3. That whould be so cool. (And I deeply sorry about my post on pg.2. I should of typed it better. Im SO sorry.)

Rayman, smayman. I rather see Megaman as the next 3rd party character.

That comic is brilliant. Sonic and Megaman should be in it, but I don't see the point of this low number of 3rd party characters. They should put lots of them in the game to increase the fanbase.

I guess if they are planning on doing a limited roster of characters so they can meet a certain deadline then unused Nintendo characters get first billing. I mean it would probably be a slap in a face to many people if some other 3rd-party character X is in the game while a potential Nintendo character like Little Mac gets shafted.

I think they're going to be holding back some 1st party characters for a sequel anyhow =.

That couldn't be closer to the truth. Good thing is, I didn't like some of the characters from Melee (Pokemon suck!). It is way too obvious that they will cut some guys out, but that's fine by me.

I thought they said was going to be the last Smash Bros. game.

There is no way they would be cutting out any of the Pokemon named Pikachu and Jigglypuff(and I wouldn't want them out either) though it would be cool if Kid Link was replaced by Windwaker Link.

.....I'm thinking Metal Sonic all of a sudden. He'd be Sonic's clone. He'd be like, the last boss of adventure mode, then he becomes METAL OVERLORD!! Then Master Hand comes and he's like "S S God will not be happy." Then you're guy (or girl) would take it upon themselves to destroy Metal.

That's how I would see it, anyway.

Considering these games are a license to print money, I doubt it.

For all we know, Smash Bros. is so successful, they might get to like, 10 Smash Bros. games. They'd only stop when they've run out of verbs like "Brawl" and stuff.

If Mario Party is still around, Thean Nintendo can make another Smash bros. game. How do they make Mario party so good and Sonic suffle so boreing?

Because Nintendo tends to be good at making games while Sega doesn't? >.>

Good point. If only Sega manage to do a good spin off. (Riders is good though)

Maybe becuase Shuffle's only purpose was to take money from Nintendo, not make a good game?

I think the thing about Nintendo characters and spin-offs is Nintendo had done it almost from the start (Mario Kart was the first I think) and has done it quite well since. Only in the past few years has Sega attempted the same with Sonic.

Also, though all characters are vibrant and playful (for the most part), Mario and Co. and the worlds thay live in are goofier in a sense. It's so much easier to have Nintendo characters settle their differences with a game of baseball or golf than Sega.

Maybe that's what they SHOULD do. Since there are previews with Mario facing off against Final Fantasy in basketball, maybe the blue blur and the plucky plumber should finally.....

I'm getting ahead of myself. SEGA and Nintendo (and perhaps PROPE) should put their heads together, and finally have Sonic and Mario go head-to-head to settle things once and for all. In a compromise. With Mario's attractiveness towards younger audiences, and Sonic to balance things out (as well as badasses like Shadow and maybe Silver), then it might be the success everyone's been looking for in the big business of the gaming world.

If a Black Mage can dunk, then so can a hedgehog.

(But what, I ask you. What and where shall they face off? That's the only problem. That's ALWAYS been the only problem. I guess SSBB is the best chance we got for now)

Sonic Spinball, Sonic Drift, Sonic Laybrinth, and the Tails games say, "I beg your pardon?"

I duuno, they seems to be some people who complain about Bowser's appearnces in these sports title. Saying that it ruins the evilness of his character.

Huh? Mario attracts the younger and older audience as much as Sonic. Heck you could argue that Mario attracts more older people than Sonic does currently no matter how "mature" the games attempts to be.

I agree with Ash. Pardon me, But do a game have to have guns and pointless cussing in order to atract older people?

The teens, in a sense. But then again, the guns were a flaw.

Still, the attraction would go wide. Sonic fans and Mario fans alike will (hopefully) want to get their hands on it. The earlier is dissipated. Sonic's just more all around, I guess. After all.....

With mistakes comes learning. As in, Don't give Shadow another gun and cencor is cus words.

Do that and I'm sure it could work out. SEGA and Nintendo are partners now. It can't be that hard, can it?

1 year later....

I stand by my answer.

Why stop at Mario and Sonic? Why not go the full force with a Nintendo/Sega mega cross-over game like Namco X Capcom...only good?

Once again, I agree with Ash. (Im a teen and i STILL think shadow did not have to have cussing and guns in to attract older people. Maybe it's just me?)

If a Black Mage can dunk

Oh, so just because a Mage is, black, that means he can automatically play basketball, huh, whitey?

Nah, it's not just you. =)

Many times forced "matoor!" crap in games like Shadow implies that's it is really immature and insults an audience intelligence.

Another case in point: BMX XXX

Also, a Nintendo/Squeenix cross-over Action RPG would also awesome, but that's another topic.

I hope Sonic shows- I can finally prove to my brother that Sonic can kick Samus' butt!:evil

EDIT: Interesting news! I just read this in the new issue of EGM I got in the mail less than an hour ago:

"Mario vs. Sonic- it's the matchup we've all been asking for. And apparently, so has legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. During a recent interview, the man behind Mario, Zelda, and several other Nintendo classics said that Sega's hedgehog would be the perfect addition to Brawl's cast. Now use your power and make it happen, Shiggy."

Well...seeing how we're going to have a NEW trailer this month (earliest is this Friday, when Nintendo begins their Wii tour in Japan), we just may see another surprise since Snake. So far, Sonic does have a chance. A high chance actually.

-Most requested character on Nintendo's polls.
-Shiggy expresses lot of desire for Sonic.
-Masahiro Sakurai expresses desire for Sonic, and he's the director of this game.

However, it is all up to Sega. But, I see no reason why not. IMO, this would be very helpful for Sonic.
